- UPDATE 7/2/2024 I have refined this containment trap base into a more compact, efficient and safer design, view it and the instructions of how to build it here: • PZ Guide - How to Buil...
NOTE: AI may behave differently in MULTIPLAYER, line of sight will determine whether or not zombies will walk up the stairs and onto your trap, make sure to stay out of sight of zombies when making noise in order to draw in zombies when in multiplayer. Build walls to hide yourself rather than just purely fences.

I've been playing the crap out of this sandbox game the last month and a 1/2. I figured out with the path finding that zombies count checker board floors as walk-able floors, which causes them to try to walk towards you even when there is no dependable pathway. They fall 90% of the time. Combine that with indestructible fence/container walls and it's basically finished. I didn't see any decent ideas for making an efficient trap for this game, that or good ideas are buried in the past, so I thought I'd share this one. Checker board floor ftw, herd them onto one and it'll rain zombies down below
UPDATE: I made a smaller more compact and cheaper version of this trap, but without the checkerboard floors: • Project Zomboid: Compa...
UPDATE2: here is my latest video concerning this particular method of trapping - a 10 step guide on how to build a compact zombie containment trap base.

Imagine building something like this at westpoint, building it around a cop car and then when it’s finished turn the sirens on lol probably too much work but it’d be cool nonetheless
I've tried it in multiplayer two times(zed path finding is slightly different in multiplayer), and both times it worked pretty well but since the car is on the ground a lot of the zeds like to hang walk directly towards the car, and not up the stairs, even if the car is hidden behind walls. However it's still more of an automated way(and still satisfying) to gather them close enough... and then from there, all one must do is make noise while staying out of their line of sight (if you are in multiplayer) and the rest is gravy.
If I did this I'd accidentally fall in with them lol
Haha then I saw the rest of the video where you do exactly that eventually
oh yeah it's scary!
I don't know how did I get here, but this is very useful
also this gaves me anxciety and I don't know why
lol glad you made it! Make sure to check my revised version of this containment area, it comes with a lot less anxiety and is much more safer. th-cam.com/video/eZQqj2gKRHY/w-d-xo.html
Good idea.
Thank you, be sure to check out the compact version it's far less troublesome to make and use.
I assume lag would be a slight issue but nonetheless its pretty satisfying
what happens if you do the trap but at a higher altitude, wouldn't it be insta kill? or zombies stop following you?
I found an answer on reddit but the answer sucks. I didn't know this: Apparently zombies will never die from just 1 fall, even from the maximum allowed height. The guy said zombies will die from 2 falls from a 6 story height, 7 falls from a 2 story height. It would take a lot of work but eventually you could build something 6 stories high but with no containment below so that they'll just path find their way back up, and fall a 2nd time.
@@phosphorescence lol, I assume this was deliberately made, so players could not wipe out cheaply and fastly hordes of zombies. Fire requires much more effort and kitting, and coz of the fire the looting would be not as useful as well
@@baltazar5326 if that is the case I think that would be a horrible design that limits the experience... But hey it's not the worst that they don't die from falls. When I accumulate I 200-300 zombies into such a small space in my regular game I can farm there breaking weapons and raising skills faster than ever before and in complete safety. It's quite a satisfying trap to have - I'm using the smaller/cheaper version of this one (description)but with the corners of the containment cut out, so I can reach them. I never thought to try to just destroy them, it seems like a waste of opportunity.
