How to Become a Nurse in New Zealand from India
If you are a registered nurse in India then you can also apply for nursing registration in New Zealand. There are three basic steps:
• Apply for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
• Get a job offer and work in New Zealand as a nurse.
• Get work experience in New Zealand and apply for a Resident Visa in New Zealand as a nurse.
Requirements to work as a nurse in New Zealand
• Qualification: The applicants must have a BSc degree which is at level 7 of the New Zealand Qualification Framework. So that is a BSc nursing degree in India.
• Then applicants must have 1800 hours of work experience and this work experience must have been gained in the last 10 years immediately.
• The applicants must be currently registered in their home country where they are working as a nurse.
IELTS Score for Nurses in New Zealand
• IELTS Academic: 7 each in reading, listening and speaking and in writing 6.5.
• OET (Occupational English Test) for Nurses: 350 in reading, listening and speaking and 300 in writing.
If the applicants are not able to gain this test score in one sitting, they may also appear in two sittings. The condition is that the time difference between the two sittings must not be more than 12 months.
New Zealand Nursing Registration Process
Once you see that you have completed these requirements, then you need to send your documentation verification to CGFNS. Documents like your qualification certificates, your English language, and your work experience.
After the documentation has been processed by CGFNS, you apply with the Nursing Council of New Zealand for the registration process.
Once your report has been submitted to the NCNZ from CGFNS, the process of registration with the Nursing Council starts. Now there are certain tests which the applicants must do for the process to go further.
• Two short courses with a small quiz conducted online (at home also)
• Online theoretical test
• OSCE- Objectively Structured Clinical Examination
The theoretical online test can be conducted in New Zealand or overseas. The applicants can take the test here in India if they are an Indian applicant at Pearson Test Centre.
OSCE is to be conducted in New Zealand. So the applicants need to travel to New Zealand to appear for that test. There is a two-day orientation for this test before the applicants appear for a three-hour test.
Once you have cleared all these tests and you have got your criminal check history, you are finally registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand. Once you have that registration on getting a job offer, you may start working as a nurse.
