The same people in here demonizing this person having to do this would be raising hell if the person had to rehome their pet. Sometimes it’s one or the other. Not everyone lives in a perfect bubble where they never have to make hard choices.

My daughter in laws cat flew all the way from the Philippines to Scotland on three different flights. He got here the day before her.I was so worried he would be traumatised. He arrived and his crate was spotless,he had food & water attached to his crate. The care he got when cleared for entry. 3 hrs. Was evident. When he arrived at me he sauntered out his crate and walked around the house and was so calm.I sat on the floor and waited for him to come to me….he was purring the whole time.

With the horror stories of dogs being placed in the freezer section of the plane. I'd never chance it again. Her dog was small enough to be a carry on. It's the same price under the seat as it us in the planes belly.

Thank you so much for this video, I'm so happy to see the process so that I can help prepare my dog when I decide to fly with them. Also, not everyone has family or friends that they can leave their pets with. I'd much rather do this than trust a kennel, or someone on Rover. I wish there were better options for pets, but businesses don't see them as a priority even though more than 50 percent of the population has at least one dog in the US

If your dog is less than 20 lbs. You can put him in a Sherpa bag and he'd need to fit under the foot well of the seat. You can't take him out. But you can stroke him to let him know your there. This is how my dog 🐕 flew his whole life.

I have to put both of my 80Ib Labs on a flight in cargo soon as well (it‘ll be a 9hr overnight flight!) - am totally terrified but am not going to leave them behind, abandon or re-home them!! We are re-locating to another country so definitely not just a short holiday. I so wish i could take them into the cabin with me since they are my family but apparently they aren’t family when flying it seems (I’d pay extra for a couple of dogs to sit next to me, then sometimes some other rude or annoying person!). I really wish there was an airline that allows owners with their dogs (in crates sure) to fly in cabin instead of getting shoved in a box, in a dark noisy room getting scared shitless. They could offer smaller planes with fewer seats and enough space to accommodate a crate or 2 next to the seat - 1 dog per adult allowed on flight, if more pay extra, but to have the option would be awesome!! Passenger/Cargo combo but everyone can stay together, reassure the pets, keep them calm etc. overnight flights would obviously best since everyone will be asleep but they‘ll be near each other all the way!

Might be good to use a solid plastic water container attached to the crate for future flights. A paper cup (like the McDonald's one) gets soaked over time and water can spared inside the crate. In the worst case, the animal sits in the wet without water.

Thank you for posting this insightful video. In advance you can also do crate training with your pet so that it feels more comfortable when it's time to get in the crate for travel. Additionally it is good to tire out your pet by walking them so they will nap during transport, it helps ease their anxiety. Feeding and giving them water only as instructed by the airline so they aren't dealing with having to go in the crate ortunny aches.

Yes u may not like it but that's your feelings. They would stay with a dog sitter, have a routine and be physically ok. In this scenario, they are in physical discomfort and scared while you are feeling great. The only genuine reason to do this is if ur moving permanently or adopting the animal..

Yes, it is a stressful and confusing experience for them but if they have been properly crate trained they should feel safe and secure in there. It is also the owner’s responsibility to ensure their dog is suitable for a flight. Some dogs simply cannot handle it. This one seems very calm and docile. Thank you for this very informative video but dang, I am now getting very anxious for my dogs. I will be travelling a 25 hour trip to go back home in Manila, Philippines and this is so very terrifying for me even! To be in the dark with the loud noise - I will go crazy! There must be an airline somewhere thinking of having a strictly for animals cargo with lights that never get turned off. Oh dear .... I will most definitely buy this camera! John, what kind of camera did you use? Is there one that can go from boarding to de-boarding? Oh my .... I have two huge dogs - a Dobermann and a Bloodhound, and a small mountain cur.

Hi, the camera is a simple action l camera for around 100 euros. A cheap "gopro"
My intention for putting it up was just to see how my dog reacts during takeoff and if she is together with other dogs and ofc curiosity to see how their journey is compared to ours.
But then I realized the informative part of the video and I uploaded it here in full length uncropped (just sped up) so more people could see what traveling in cargo is like for our beloved dogs.
This was just a 3 hour flight. 25 hours is a very long flight.
If you want to record for a longer time and record in the darkness during takeoff I would recommend buying a more expensive camera that maybe eveb have nightvision. Or buy just one nice actioncamera that is waterproof that you can use for underwater pictures etc.
Be aware that legally I didn't have any permit to use the camera, I traveled from one European county, some countries maybe are very strict against using cameras and filming parts of the airport that are restricted for non workers.
I would not have tried this traveling outside of Europe because I dont know the local laws and wouldn't take that risk.

The money I paid for my dog to go to private boarding while I went away could have gone to having her own seat on the plane. I could fit her into a "large crate on top of the airline seat with a foot stand under it. I refuse to put my dog through the kind of traumatic stress the airlines currently provide for large dog travel. Yes, there are people that are not willing or can't afford to pay for the extra seat, but there are also some people that "will" if they "can" afford it. I will NEVER put my dog in the current travel option unless I would be allow to lay in the crate with her for the whole fight as well. YUP! I would do that if it meant keeping my dog relaxed and less stressed.

Imagine how scary takeoff and landing are completely in the dark right under the plane!! Horrifying! Especially if the dog is sleeping when the plane lands! This should be called “how to scar your dog for life tutorial” so many dogs have been ruined behaviorally or outright died from this, I also don’t think the underbelly of the plane is temp controlled, so it gets very hot, if they don’t die of overheating it’s either they get lost or abused by people who load them up and treat them like luggage, if none of those things you’re lucky and now have a dog with fear aggression issues or worse, my fist dog became extra fear aggressive after we had to do this when we moved, with that being said though, training and leadership will get your dog back to normal but it may take a VERY long time to get the dog over the trauma created by this,

    • @john13arva
      @john13arva  หลายเดือนก่อน

Probably, I didn't. But I risked it because I was traveling from an EU to another EU country. And staff did see and even waved to the camera so I don't think they had a problem with it and didn't complain about it. My reasoning is that it is a public place and I don't need permission to film and upload a video filmed in public. They had ex rayed the crate just before the video starts so it didn't film any security control and it didn't show anything in the backround that I consider to be illegal to film/upload.
I would not have done it if I was traveling outside of Europe, because there I know even less about locals laws.
