Mendelssohn is one of my top favorite composers but this symphony is his best pearl to me. It reminds me of Caspar Friedrich's paintings, with that dark and mysterious landscapes. I am looking forward to listening to it live some day. So far it's been the other four, but not this beautiful gem. It's an absolute delight that Maestro Orozco-Estrada, one of the best and finest conductors in the world, has recorded a so wide range of repertoire. Thank you very much, hr-Sinfonieorchester, these videos should be considered as mankind heritage.
Mendelssohn Symphony No.1. - I have to admit as I have never heard this Symphony before but I certainly have enjoyed the experience of listening to a wonderful conductor Maestro Andres Orozco-Estrada with this talented orchestra who are playing this beautiful music. It’s a delight to have been thoroughly entertained in my own lounge. What more can we expect from this terrible time we’re all experiencing. This music is helping me to relax and enjoy listening to beautiful music. Thanks to the genius composing of Mendelssohn wonderful music.

27:16 A magnificent part of the piece, in a completely different style from the movement. Pleasant, calm and as Mendelssohn writed down: "pesante", heavy and ponderous; just like Bach. There is also a part in the fourth movement of his fifth and its style is very similar, it is wonderful too.
The Symphony No.1 in C minor Op.11, is a work by Felix Mendelssohn, completed on 31 March 1824, when the composer was only 15 years old. The autographed score was published in 1831. The work was premièred at a private gathering on 14 November 1824 to honor his sister Fanny Mendelssohn's 19th birthday. Its public première occurred on 1 February 1827, with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra performing under the leadership of its then-Kapellmeister Johann Philipp Christian Schulz. The symphony was dedicated to the Philharmonic Society, who performed the London première on May 25, 1829, with Mendelssohn conducting. For this performance Mendelssohn orchestrated the scherzo from his Octet Op.20 as an alternative third movement for the symphony.
Brilliant symphony for a 15 year old, but I can tell its written by a young composer to be honest because of the way it starts off! Basically, it has no introduction! It just starts off with a bang and never relents, which diminishes the dramatic power of the music, which is very good. Had Felix written a nice dramatic slow introduction and THEN come in with the opening he used, the music would have been much better served. The 2nd mvt is much more mature and is lovely. The 3rd mvt reminds me of the minuet from Mozart's 40th symphony in G minor. The last movement rocks---Mendelssohn knew how to write a rockin finale, no doubt about it. Note---try listening to the 1st,3rd and 4th movements at .9 or even .85% of the tempo they played it---You'll see the music is more powerful at a slightly slower speed. (For some reason classical conductors always take Mendelssohn's music at break neck tempos, and they sound better with a little of that speed taken out)
The violins are overbalanced by the winds in this recording. Larger violin sections would have helped. Also the intonation is not what it should be: even the timpani are sharp.

Good luck. Unfortunately Mendelssohn isn't played much anymore. Schumann either, now that I think about it.
Another terrific performance of this symphony . This conductor elicits the best from them -his energy is catching.Thank you for the download

How inspirational….the playing.
The Joy of life!
Grande Orozco Estrada!!
This has a healing effect, and an exilir to purify the soul
Thanks for posting this recent performance. Just in time for a restudy of this work. Didn't expect the accelerando after H in the first movement.
Excelente presentación Director y Orquesta! Enhorabuena! ❤👏👏👏👏👏

Tenés toda la razón.

This is better than anything any composer -- including Mozart -- wrote at this age.
👌🇪🇸
And they say Mendelssohn was a soft guy

This will quench the dryness of my soul
