    This video was done absolutely perfect. You explained every step and showed the step as well. So many others are concerned with being funny and miss important steps or do not show what needs to be done.
    Excellent job

    Great job on both the awning and slide topper replacement. I have replaced several awnings over the years for both ourselves and our friends. I have also replaces a couple of slide toppers. You definitely need a minimum of two people for the job. When it comes to unwinding and rewinding the awning springs, I never let anyone do this job but myself as it is too dangerous if someone doesn't pay attention and lets the vise grip slip.

    Great video. I made the first half of a video showing some small prepwork i did while im waiting on my awning. It eliminated having to disassemble the tube or try to unwind the spring or even drilling and replacing rivets. I tryed putting a link in a couple of video comments but it doesnt show up for some reason.

    Thanks so much for creating and sharing this. In 2018 somewhere between Texas and Colorado both of our slide topper awnings experienced, should we say, an ABRUPT billowing event! Extreme crosswinds whipped them fully open on a busy Texas highway, and although they didn't rip in half, we had to use vice grips to keep them from billowing back open. So first, I'll look into installing anti billowing parts (didn't know I was missing them until seeing your video) then second, I'll rewatch this before installing our new awnings. I've been putting the job off, but you make it look really do-able. Great work on this video, and great discount code choice. I agree MORTONSRULE!

    So far this year I have replace 3 awning,1 manual and 2 electric, for my customers. BY my self! Fun times but can be done with proper planning and by slowly executing your plan. A no go if the wind is above 10 knots. I did or tried, to do my own last year in a 15 knot wind and it was exciting to say the least. See ya out there.

    May I suggest you buy some vinyl eavestrough and make a removable cover to preserve your hard work and awning.
    It works great for protection from the sun and weather when not in use or stored for the winter!
    NOTE: The eavestrough is not meant to be left on when traveling.
    It goes on in seconds! It snaps into the track just above the top of the awning and rolls around the awning, directing the rain down and away from the awning. The awning is completely hidden from the sun.😊 🇨🇦

    Fabrics look beautiful. Camper looks like it got a bit of a face lift. Very nice. You guys should look into a weather shield for the patio awning. It can help protect the fabric from the sun in hot locations when rolled up or traveling and protect from trees and other things that graze the side of the camper while driving down the road. Only thing I see wrong is the anti billow device is not set quite correctly. Keep up the good work guys. She’s looking better all the time.

      weather shield? mesh? or other.... do you have a specific link for readers of this video????? is this a clip on item once unfurled??? One could make such with rayon sail cloth and a sewing machine and some clips.

      So actuator Rv geeks have them on there unit. th-cam.com/video/7EXgaoRNkYg/w-d-xo.html. Here is a like to there topper replacement. If u notice they can be added to toppers as they slide on the coach and the fabric slides on the shield. Only thing you will have to do is add one or two extra turns on the springs for proper tension.

    Great Vid! Question: Is there anything that should be lubed on the rotating part? Reason i ask is last time out either something broke or the wind got under the fabric and caused the end support to break and the roller and a awning were flapping in the wind going down the road! I did notice when sliding in that it wasn't rolling up smooth, it would stop go,stop go as afar as the awning rolling up. It looked good when it was in but....? Maybe my tension needed to be upped a bit? Yet to dive in and fix it I'll have a better idea what happened after i fix the broke one and check the others. Tip:adjust mirrors up a bit when towing to watch the upper part of trailer, that way wont have to rely on someone screaming at you thru window rolling down interstate!

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably a bit more tension and lube the latch mechanism on the end of the roller tube while out. I should have shown it, but we actually did spray ours with a bunch of white lithium while we had it apart.

    Do rivets have to be exactly 5mm??

  • @sdsuper1030
    @sdsuper1030 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    A couple of things. You could have filed the corners of the awning tube before sliding awning fabric on just like you did on the rail. Also the spring torsions have a spot to use vice grips so you want have to use a towel. A towel can easily slip no matter how tight. Last but not least I'm curious how long the new fabrics will last not only are they see through but they look like they are a thinner even though at the end off video you said they were thicker.definitly the double stiched seams are an upgrade compared to the domestic and carefree single stitching.

    • @MortonsontheMove
      @MortonsontheMove  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are thicker but much more flexible. Our original fabric had become brittle. Wow if there is a spot for the vice grips that would be a much better solution. As far as fabric life thats hard to say but I know the RV geeks have had theirs a long time without problems. Our main awning was only 4 years old!

    • @sdsuper1030
      @sdsuper1030 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MortonsontheMove you can search Google for the dometic PDF on torsion or awning fabric replacement.if I remeber when I'm at work I'll forward you a copy. It shows both with vice grips and with there special tool how to grip the torsion for winding and unwinding. Just a side note the way I remember which way to wind a torsion is up up and away like superman used to say. Your vice grips rotate up and away from wall of vehicle.also thanks for info on the fabric

  • @thatwasinteresting.8150

    How do you add turns to the opposite end without the stop latch to prevent it from unwinding? Add the turns while holding constant pressure and then poke around with the awl to find the stop hole?

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi YouSurf! Awning and slide topper prices vary depending on size. The way to price yours out is to follow the instructions on the Tough Top Awnings website for sizing.... for slide toppers, measure the distance from the inside edges of the two end caps, as well as the depth of the slide, and for awnings, just the he distance between end caps (the depth is standard, so not needed). You then use those measurements to walk through the ordering process (which will instruct you to deduct a small amount from your width measurements) and they'll provide pricing. The discount is 5% whether using the Mortons or Geeks discount code. Hope this helps, and good luck with your installations!

    • @yousurf374
      @yousurf374 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RVgeeks yes, but I had asked what what WAS their cost... my old unit is almost identical with 3 slide awnings of same size and such... Please, your answer is a non-answer.... I asked what THEIR cost was for them to get a ball park figure.

    What? No O-scope, DVM, or soldering iron? Not even a spectrum analyzer or network analyzer? Actually, this is very timely. When I was snowbirding in Florida this year, the wind came up pretty dramatically in the night. I didn't worry about it as I had my tie down straps over and under the awning and they have been terrific in the past. Well, come morning, I went out and saw that the sun had weakened the over the top strap and the wind had broken it. Now the full force of the wind was felt by the awning and it was ripped off the roller about four feet. I am going to wait until spring but then I need to do the same thing you did. Yes, I will leave my scope, meters, etcetera at home as you did. Are you volunteering to come help? Just kidding! Not a serious question!!
