Beachy Head Lighthouse

- Another Sussex seascape adventure. This time I venture down on to the shoreline at Beachy Head, to scout for landscape photography compositions.
The trek was harder than I thought, and I share my thoughts on preparation for heading down to this location. Loads of potential, but hard work.
Joined by John Rees White, we head down there for sunset, and venture back in the dark - and damn, what a hill to get back to the car park!

Depending on where you are based, I have visited a few lighthouses that I can recommend. I visited two in Dorset/Devon two weeks ago. Those videos will be coming soon!

Lots of people do venture down there, it is just when the light is at its best you end up walking there or back in the dark. Luckily we had some Haribo to keep up moral!

Good job as always. Too bad you couldn't have hauled that car engine up to the light house for a nice foreground element.
Where's the rest of the car!?! There was an engine and one wheel buried quite far into the beach.

Good effort Ben getting down to the location and getting your images and certainly looked an unforgiving location if your planning goes to pot

Its an interesting location, its seems really easy to get to when you look at it from the cliff top, but then when you find out that you have to go about a mile east to get down to the beach and then a mile back - it is quite an investment!
@@benharveyphotographyWonder how many have came a cropper as they have failed to recognise the logistics of making it to the location. Its testament to what you produced Ben when you realise what was involved in getting to the location itself before you consider the vlogging and the work around producing the content 👍
And yes, I have more fine art videos in the pipeline, but to give you an idea, I filmed this video in January, so I am a little behind on my editing!
I always go to birling gap and look down at the lighthouse. I had no idea you could get to it, let alone get in it! How far is the walk approximately?
Hello. It is about 5-10 minutes walk from the car park down a very steep hill to Cow Gap (the steps down to the beach) and it is probably 45-60 minutes walk west from cow gap to the lighthouse. And it is a tough walk across large rocks, it is totally manageable if you healthy and fit. The walk back up from Cow Gap to the car park is the tough part. And check on the tides, you can get cut off by the tides. Good luck!

Maybe invest in a gimbal? Was getting a bit motion sick while you were walking ;)
The painful truth is that I have a gimbal, two actually, but when you get to a location like this you stand on a bolder and you are searching for a place to put your delicately balanced camera on a gimbal and it all starts to be a faff. For that reason I didn't take it, but I take on board your comment. Don't walk and film at the same time. The next few videos coming up I used the stabiliser :-)

Great job Ben. Try Osmo pocket, small, no need to balance, perfect quality.
Przemek Mikulski I have watched plenty of reviews of the Osmo pocket and I will explore the idea of using it. I have previously considered buying one but it won’t perform at all in low light, which is inevitable if you go out at sunrise and sunset. It does come with its challenges though, audio for example, the smallest Rode microphone that I use is about three to four times the size of the Osmo pocket, which defeats the point of its size. It could work for vlogging, but as in this video, if I were to use a lav mic it wouldn’t work if there are others in the video. If I can find a rig that works for that I might get it.
I already use the original Osmo, and the Osmo mobile, but then I am balancing a one thousand pound phone on a gimble and putting it down on a rock!
First world problems I know.
