I always found like I was missing my own style too and I find myself feeling comfortable in dickies and whatnot after feeling like I've been missing out on something about myself. I also think it's a lost art due to generations before us that turned it into something negative, personally it feels like it's something stripped from our culture, but I guess media is making it popular again. I think we got to bring it back and return to the roots of Chicano culture and professionalism.

It is absolutely reassuring to see that there are other people out there that have the same mindset as me. I hope we are all in this together. And I definitely agree that our past generations turned it into something negative. Thank you for this comment and sharing your story bro.

Taft is actually in South Central California as it is in Kern County. Great story and I can definitely relate to the ironing. Personally, I never was much into ironing at all, but since I was in the Army over 20 years ago, I really got into ironing and it never left me (the shoe shining has always been protocol for me also). Shout out from Bakersfield CA.

Nice man thanks for sharing your story! and yea I guess what I meant to say was north of LA. But yea once you get into it you can't go back. But I also know a handful of people who wanted to iron and shine so badly but never did because they were too lazy. smh. I guess either you have it or you don't.

I’m half Guatemalan/half white and I live and grew up in the south. I have never felt close to either sides of my family bc my white family never accepted me as a white person and my Guatemalan side never knew me because they lived there and my dad never told anyone he had a kid in the US. (he had a whole family in guate) so growing up all I had was the Mexican family friends my mom made and some of them I consider tios and tias to this day. I also didn’t have my own style because I was either surrounded by country kids, rich white kids, few black people, and rarely Latinos. None of which I felt like I fit in with. Plus I always used hand me downs bc my mom never really bought clothes unless it was urgent. Now that I’m grown I wear clothes like this because, like you said, they really are comfortable. People from the south don’t really understand why I dress the way I do either. Most of them probably don’t even know what a Chicano is 😂. In those three things, we relate man. Your videos help me maintain these clothes and keep me looking fresh bro. Thanks for all the work you put in. Sigue echándole las ganas hermano ✊🏼🤎

Long post, long read: IMO your jefito in the pinta didn't like / told you to be careful with the banged out ropas, cuz it's mostly associated with Chicano gang bangin Gs, and there are G foos out there on a sick one, mind not stable at all, complete gangster mentally, puro gangsterism, all banged out mindset, like I see a bunch of tecatos in Santana and their mind ain't right at all. Often, they don't have the best judgement because their mind is permanently altered from all the drugs and quite simply that puro G life varrio mentally. If it walks and talks like a duck, it must be a duck, na mean? So, when active gang bangin foos are patrolling in the varrio, and they see a banged out foo they don't know, especially if he pelon and tatted with the extra banged out Chicano G ropas, they gonna assume. There are foos out there in Califas who trip big time, they driving in the enemigo varrio looking for their enemigos, puttin in work, that kinda trippin stuff
Like 3 of my homies who don't bang that live in the varrio, don't bang a varrio as an example: one homie got robbed at gunpoint with a sawed off shotgun, pretty much point blank, pointed right at him when a truck pulled up on him, truck stopped in the middle of the street, he was on the sidewalk, and he told me they robbed him of his school backpack that just had Hot Cheetos and school stuff as a teen, but them foos didn't care. Homie straight up don't bang at all, but because he lived a varrio in Santana, the G foos may assume if you in that area, that you probably from that varrio or they just do retaliation on the people that live there, back and forth varrio stuff
Another homie got jumped by 3 grown gang bangin foos in their 30s from a varrio, they all hopped out the whip, he told me he told them he didn't bang, but the homie is tatted up, baggy G ropas, he doesn't bang AFAIK, but homie is a compete 113% thug, absolutely thugged out. I would say an associated member as he lives right in the varrio and he knows basically everybody in that varrio, they still tripped on him, stomped him out, told me all 3 of them kicked him a whole lot in the face, he had the biggest black eyes ever. He told me he's lucky they didn't kill him cuz that varrio be shooting and stabbing people that live in that varrio, hitting up those white vendor trucks with their varrio and whatnot, that they didn't blast him with the cuete or hit him with fileros and they just stomped him out. Serio straight up he told me he's lucky to be alive cuz he was faded off the pisto (he's an alcoholic) and was slow AF, couldn't really defend himself against 3 grown men
Another homie as a teen got shot at 2 twice in his life, he told me they did drive bys, didn't hop out, he told me they did an initiation shooting, but they was for real shooting at him at a park in the varrio, his sister called the jura and he told me all they did was like examine the bullet holes in the apartment buildings, and there were no shells since they did a drive by in the whip or they used revolvers, and straight up the homie don't bang, he has no placas, he's a punk rock type homie. From what I remember what he told me he was wearing a white T-shirt, Dickies and Chuck Taylors in the varrio, but when active gang bangin foos on the jale lookin for anybody, they might just trip and assume that person is from the varrio if they can't find the actual gang bangin foos from the varrio
Heard a bunch of other stories... a lot of stabbing, shooting stories, trippin stories, etc., like one foo is permanently stuck in a wheelchair, but that foo bangs, he got shot in an alley in his varrio, their enemigos be cruising through that varrio often, shooting and stabbings. I gotta keep insane truchas every time I pull up to the homie's pad because he lives deep in the heart of the varrio, cuz I might be a victim
So, IMO in Southern Califas just gotta be careful with the banged out G ropas, cuz foos really do trip and they are looking for their enemigos, I hear it often, and if you say you don't bang, they might not believe you and really press you. Like the times I see the old school Chicano look big time is at ranfla events, that's probably the only time I see vatos don't trip because I think at ranfla events, it's supposed to be neutral grounds, but you never know... I'm from the 1503, so one time I was a ranfla volo in OC, scoping out all the sick ranflas, there was a LA foo, and he told me he drove all the way to OC because he told me someone got shot in LA at the function (don't know if he survived, but he got shot), so the way he said it, it sounded like it was all hot, especially with him driving to OC, hitting the freeway and this was a G foo, but he was real cool, he gave me a pisto and I also met that foo LA Confidential there and he was chopping it up with that foo from LA, cuz they're both from LA. From my memory, I think they both told me LA is hot
