Situation. I was coming from Kentwood la going east to bogalusa la. I took a wrong turn ended up on back roads. I came to a crossroad. There was a young black lady cleaning out her car parked on side of road. I stopped at stop sign. She looked at me. I looked at her. Something didnt look right. Why is she cleaning car out in the middle of nowhere. Weird. So i took off towards angie la. I thought she had friends hiding in the woods with guns as to rob me. What if i would have stopped to help her. And they rob me wallet car and cell phone. Or i get out of my car with pistol in my pocket. Then when they come from woods with their guns. Knowing they are gonna rob me. I shoot and kill all of them. Should I report it to the police. Or just take off like nothing ever happened\what do i do. If my prints are not on bullets i could be in the clear. I decided not to be a good citizen and just drove off looking for angie la. I think i made the right choice\ AMERICA IS NOT SAFE😳😳😳

Laissez les BONS temps rouler. "Les" is plural therefore the adjective "bons" will carry an S. You could say laissez le BON temps rouler. "Le" is singular therefore "bon" will also show the singular form. But the phrase would be weird. Only One Good time? Doesn't sound right of course. Further complication: temps carries an S no matter if it's singular or plural. The "le" or "les" preceding the word define which it is. The verb "LaisseZ" signifies "y'all let" the good times roll as it's heard in N.O. "LaisseR" means "let" the good times roll in general with "pointing at any group or person" in general.
You're forgiven. Almost never do I see this phrase written correctly on a bussiness' sign. If I was to paint a sign in Russian or Greek for example, for the world to see, I would certainly ask a professor or native of these languages how to spell it correctly.

Despite its crime and trash, the city is infinitely charming, being the most European looking U.S. city. It is a city like no other with the best food in the country. To those that don’t know, the food in NOLA is Creole, not Cajun. That’s south central and southwest Louisiana.

I wish you would have mentioned the Cajun-Creoles of Louisiana when talking about our population, our history, and our food. We are the native Latin French people of the State of Louisiana- a very warm, hospitable, and happy people who understand la joie de vivre, the joy of living.
Mentioning macaroni and cheese and chicken is good and all, but these aren't anything special compared to what you can find anywhere else. In Louisiana, we shine in our gumbo (I indeed love me some duck & andouille sausage gumbo), crawfish étouffé, sauce piquant, jambalaya, tarte à la bouillie, boudin, & so much more. We have the keys to rich, delicious, Cajun-Creole food and we make these dishes with love & passion.
I wish you mentioned some of the top times to come for our celebrations- Mardi Gras, Halloween & la Toussaint, and of course, the New Year. All in all, this video is a generally good comprehension of the city of New Orleans here in the State of Louisiana, I guarantee it.

Yes,it is great place to live but all the bad stuff is due to a dumb population that keeps voting in corrupt Democrats into political power who then appoint corrupt leaders in important positions like police commissioner, police chief, IG,etc. That includes corrupt Democrat DAs elected too . The city has continued to decline since 1872 which is when the last Republican mayor was elected. There were many good Democrat mayors in those years but that party has put up only very compromised& corrupt politicians for the last several decades going into the latter part of 20th century. It is truly insane bc the ppl stubbornly repeat the exact same voting choices hoping for something better while never really getting anything better but only worse. Many thought Katrina was a perfect time to start anew& it seemed to have gotten more corrupt Dems who aren’t even native to the city like the current mayor. We have had mayors in jail recently, city councilmen in jail& district attorneys in jail, police in jail& it repeats every election cycle but the only change in leadership to occur will be when the ppl wake up& stop being so lazy& demand better.

I live one block from "Piece of Meat" here in New Orleans and I definitely concur. Overall this is an amazing city. It has it's pros and cons. It is a great city for bicycling and the "Blue Bikes" bikeshare is back and running so you can rent a bicycle and tour the city. Also Dixie Beer now Faubourg is back in a lil' nook in New Orleans East off Jourdan Road. Live music on the weekend. There's so much to see and do. Many of the streets are pothole laden and like being on the moon in areas where tourists don't go. But it's a great city. Currently there is an indoor mask mandate and you must show proof of vaccination or a negative covid test to get into bars, restaurants, event venues and such in the city of New Orleans. The mandates will be in effect at least till the end of carnival season this year which is 1 March. They could be extended or lifted after depending on the situation. Anyway there's too much to get into just to explain everything so just come, be streetwise and don't go off the beaten path. And if someone says: "Bet I know where you got dem shoes" It's a ploy so they can polish your shoes and claim you owe them. The answer is always: "On ya feet!" Don't engage with them just mind yourself and you'll be fine.

We watched the fireworks on NYE in NOLA (2021-2022) 🎆! The city was awesome! We only met hospitable people during our 7-day stay there; not one single rude person like you’ll expect in NYC or LA! WWII Museum and the cemeteries are must stops! We attended Sunday service at St. Louis Cathedral and it was magical! On the opposite side of spectrum? The Vampire Cafe and dinner at Muriel’s’s are a must, too! The dirt and smell on some parts of the city are probably left by the rowdy tourists, and they’re not everywhere. Yes, the city could invest more on maintaining its cleanliness, but, I saw that they try! We talked with some business owners and they said if you can own a thriving business there, it’s not a bad place to be! The food and culture are amazing! They can handle occasional low grade hurricanes as they consider it as washing the old, but, they don’t wish for life destroying ones! Worth your visit folks! Let’s support the wonderful people of NOLA! Black and Gold 🖤⚜️💛

Could be cold, hot or warm. You never know. Just stay on well trodden and well lit areas. Don't go walking alone (even 2 people might be iffy - 3 or 4 is better) at night anywhere even in the French Quarter. Don't carry a purse or a wallet, and give them up if threatened. Watch out for swindlers accosting you to distract you, asking baiting questions, and pickpockets.

The Garden District is one of the best communities in New Orleans. The Mannings were born there. Most of the Mardi Gras is on Canal Street not Bourbon Street although most people will end up on Bourbon Street. New Orleans was France's throw away city dumping many criminals into the area possibly to kill off the Natives, who were mosty Houma and Natchez and Choctaw. It's similar to England sending their criminals to Australia. Worst parts of the city is wards, the 9th and 13th. Algiers project on the West Bank is bad. My rule of thumb about the city and staying safe is; stay with the crowd and have plenty of friends. Ruth Steak house is good and a place called Nacho Mommas. Yes, there is such a place and the line getting in come take awhile. I think the city will heal after the hurricane and covid but may take away. One last thing, many people consider the Jazz and Heritage Festival is getting better than Mardi Gras. It's in late spring, April or May.

If you're wealthy, life in any US state or city (or any other country I would imagine) is easy. But for the bottom of the pool, the US is not the best place to live. N.O. has its share of both but probably more of the second kind or at least a great share of struggling families.

With you living in Portland, OR, I thought that was interesting. NO must be a lot worse than Portland these days if you can find the crime there tolerable. My sister recently drove up the west coast on her way to Seattle and passed thru Portland - she told me it was such a miserable sh&t hole of a city, she couldn’t wait to get out of there. Mind you, she’s also been to New Orleans and loved it. So, this one confused me a bit - who’s right? Loved all the info, however, would love to visit NO myself soon. Portland, not so much. 😆

I am a native of "Nawlins." Unlike a lot of people from there, I've traveled all over the world and visited after a year here or year there. It is harder to see the changes in a city when you live there until those changes become extreme. Serving in the military, I've seen the changes coming not living there all the time. I've watched the city I grew up in and loved change over time. I've watched as the people of New Orleans knowingly elect one crooked mayor after another. I've watched and heard from my family (three in law enforcement) the crime go up so badly and the police payroll stay the lowest paid metro PD in the nation. The corruption grew, and along with it, everything bad about the city got worse. The greatest part of the city was and has always been 1st and foremost the people followed by our rich sense of history. With the crime out of control ever since the late 80's more and more of the "people of Nawlins" moved to safety across the lake to the North Shore. By the mid 2000's, so many people had left the city for the North Shore. So much that the population on the North Shore had grown 50 thousand in just a few years. In that same time, there was a large influx of people from other areas of the country. With them they brought their own ideas, values and beliefs. Over time, much of what was really Nawlins was lost. Historical landmarks were brought down, streets renamed, policies that would have caused a mayor to be physically removed 30 years ago were not only adopted but willingly. I know, everything changes. But Nawlins was always a hold out. It always resisted the world's pressure to change. That was one of the things people loved about the city. It was unapologetically Nawlins and no one gave a damn if the rest of the world approved. That city and people are no longer in existence. It has literally become ever other major city; politically correct, crime ridden, completely controlled by a crooked government and sensored. Visitors generally can't see that because they never lived there when it WAS Nawlins. I miss my hometown. I know it will never return. But I do remember with great fondness of what it was like when 6 generations of families were running businesses. When Nawlins tradition trumped anything else happening in the world. When even the crooked politicians knew not to screw with those traditions. When our history wasn't "white, black, Civil War or racial history. It was OUR history and whether you were white, black, tan, green or blue.......you didn't screw with our history, our beliefs, and especially our sense of freedom and fun. I am retired Army and combat veteran and I do not go into the city willingly. Almost all of my family has left the city. It is just too dangerous. I have family members and many childhood friends who were law enforcement in and around Nawlins. They have moved away due to the crime and policies in the city. Currently, it is actual police policy NOT to rush into a crime scene. The current DA will not prosecute most crime and the PD is no longer willing to lose a life for a criminal that either will be immediately set free or be released in a few weeks. It is taking hours and even weeks for police to arrive and investigate crime. A month ago, a friend called the police because every car on their block had the windows smashed in and broken into. The NOPD officers got there 3 weeks later to investigate. You can actually check these facts. Spend your money in the smaller towns in La, you'll find much more of what used to be Nawlins in those small town than you will ever find in today's New Orleans.

I lived just outside Nawlins for awhile when I was a kid. It was humid and hot. I love heat so I was OK with it. I also had a part Cajun girlfriend at the time, and she was awesome!

Used to go there every year for work conference, but then they stopped because too many of our employees got mugged or arrested or just general trouble. I miss it. Particularly the live music

Yeah! Got arrested for acting stupid. Just because you're in N.O. where you can drink in the streets and you're away from the Bible belt doesn't mean you can get all crazy. There is a noticeable police presence in the Quarter.

Could you do a video like this on Huntsville, AL? I want to move there due to its recent status as the 3rd best place to live in the US and proximity to my family. I know it has undergone a lot of changes recently and people are flocking there due to low cost of living and higher than average income. Thanks!!

Café 615 Home of the wabbit in Gretna just across the bridge. Food is amazing and prices are VERY reasonable for the area!
