      Thank you! This was the coolest one I've built so far. Lately, I've been thinking about ... The CoasterDome!

    Adding to what Spacekat Tommy said, I agree it would be best to "box" the whole length of the chain. With his idea about maintenance access if you can make the dimensions add up correctly, you could bolt them on from the sides with a socket head cap screw every foot or so. I love your work, it's absolutely awesome!!!

    Btw, i love that at 3:40 you were like "you ready?" and the camera started shaking like crazy.
    That lift has gotta be terrifying already. The vibration alone is like "oh shizzlesticks!"

    Dude the design of that is great.. You definitely want to run that up the entire chain track.. like you said but for mechanical/repair situations.. dont go welding that stuff into place specifically on one side.. give yourself some clips to attach it so you can remove those sidelines in case you need to do repairs. so you can gain easy access to the interior. you should run that line down the entire chain link before you get to the top for sure
    I love your project this is so kool man. I'll be looking for a patreon site today.
    You have to, have to, HAVE TO talk about your Patreon and Paypal etc... every video and during your live streams before u end them. People are going to back you man.... Promote!!!
    The project is kool enough as it is.. but dude, you gotta push them to support you.
    You're on fire with your work, its so great. Fire is typically terrible.. but.. run.. run as fast as you can with this stuff and burn brighter. OMG dude... You literally set yourself up for greatness here.
    Back this guy everybody... Holy shizzlesticks.

      Will is the boss dude.
      *I also re-edited the orignal comment because it was slightly unclear on the language.... when u get excited and words flow you dont always articulate whats needed in the right way."
      after his last vid on the "i need help with the chain lift catch system" i sent him 3 seperate images over 24 hours to his twitter cuz he wanted that clink clink sound and i think i nailed it. I cant wait to see what he does either way.

    Those two parts that you attached over the Chain are called Shoulders they should have plastic like material like
    Synthetic ice : Is a solid polymer material they use on skating rinks. and attach them on the underside and side of the shoulders to protect them from wear.

    • @justice7558
      @justice7558 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Walter Lewis there’s also usually a plastic wear strip in the bottom of the channel to keep the underside of the chain from flattening out over time from the metal on metal contact.

    • @WillPemble
      @WillPemble  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oooh. Plastic wear strip. That’s a really good idea.

      Yeah I was thinking some uhmwpe would be a low friction wear strip.

      Usually they use PTFE, better known as Teflon.

    Re-discovered your channel by accident :) glad you're back! Have you considered placing LED lights on the track? I think it would make riding at night awesome.

    Fire the grill up, put some ice in the cooler. I'm on my way over. I'll bring the steaks, the beer, and the chips and anything else you think of. I wanna ride that thing!

    Is there any way you could bend more angle iron for the beginning of the chain box as well? If not the whole bend, at least a few inches right at the start.

  • @riparianlife97701
    @riparianlife97701 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The chain box has been the biggest will he/won't he since the X-Files.

  • @blakem9109
    @blakem9109 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm thinking the chain box doesn't need to run all the way up, above the currently installed guide, what force is lifting the chain out of the track? Also for the brakes have you thought about a spring loaded arm to lower the skids on the track so the rider can release the car on their own? Sort of like old fashion wood coasters but can be operated by the rider.

  • @kquttersanford3635
    @kquttersanford3635 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Try making a automatic air brake it may make it easier without you having to push the car all the time

  • @jamiegibsonlx
    @jamiegibsonlx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    why dont you run the chain"box" to the bottom of the lift hill then it will stay in and it wont catch on the fromt of the cart

    • @WillPemble
      @WillPemble  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great idea, Jamie!
      The four-foot section installed here was meant as a test of the system. Now that we know it works (and that I'm able to install it) we're definitely going to put it on the rest of the hill. I'm off to the steel store!

    Also, I remember you talking about christmas presents, do you have room in your garage for a Bridgeport mill, that would give you the ability to make some pretty cool stuff on the coaster.

    • @WillPemble
      @WillPemble  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have written Santa multiple times about bringing me a mill for Christmas!
      Pleeeeease, Santa?

      Will Pemble if you ever need any input on machining I'd be willing to teach you anything you aren't sure of. Been a CNC machinist for about 32 years now.

      Thank you, Marty! I’ll take all the help I can get. Starting with suggestions for affordable gear that’ll work for our projects.

    • @martysmith9167
      @martysmith9167 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will Pemble first thing we need to do is look at what you want to build, from watching everything you definitely could use a mill, but are you thinking about round parts too? If so are you just looking at a mill or are maybe a lathe too. If your not sure, the mill is more versatile all around but if you do have some parts that are round they can be definitely made easier on a lathe. I might be explaining what you already know but just in case. Now the other consideration is cost what are you looking at spending? If you want to converse more about this stuff is there a way we could pm or email? More than willing to help with anything I can from Vegas. :)

    How do you bend metal pipe for the track

  • @SpacekatTommy
    @SpacekatTommy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Now that i'm looking at it i keep thinking - Warning: whats the g-force on that friction break, because it is pretty sudden at the end... even with the cart alone you have to catch it cuz of how fast its going and there's not even a rider... I suggest a friction break on the last turn on one of the hills.. its too fast. You are going to wear down your cart really fast, its gonna break. You dont want to bust your cart. You gotta get over those hills i understand that for sure.. but that back end of the ride its so fast still that u gotta slow it down more so you dont wear down your cart and the brakes... Because when/if it breaks no one can ride. Right? Right.
    And Lyle... i'm so freakin envious and there's no dad like him. he's awesome.

    Hi Will Pemble I am currently trying to figure out the proper way to design a safe roller coaster. As far as I can tell you have no video that shows how you design it. I have a lot of wood and pvc pipe which is more like your first coasters instead of the metal ones.

  • @twistedcheese1
    @twistedcheese1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How many coasters do you have?

  • @ronaldmanwaring2631
    @ronaldmanwaring2631 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe a simple tension guide sprocket at the lower part of the hill would accomplish the same thing instead of boxing it all the way down????

    hi
    one question
    where did you buy your chain for the lift hill I cannot find out where i can buy one for a leingh of around 86ft

    • @WillPemble
      @WillPemble  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's agricultural chain. I got it from amazon, I believe.

  • @ronaldmanwaring2631
    @ronaldmanwaring2631 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Will that chain jumping around at the base of the hill, is that any kind of issue or no????

    • @justice7558
      @justice7558 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ronald Manwaring gerstlauer spinning coasters have the lift chain away from the base like that.

    • @WillPemble
      @WillPemble  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s where I got the inspiration. From Sierra Sidewinder at Knott’s Berry Farm. Not positive, but I think that’s a Gerstlauer ride.
      But now, I’m thinking of extending the box (shoulders) all the way to the flat track at the bottom of the hill.
