Jesmonite Terrazzo Plant Pots *How to Terrazzo*

  • Hi my lovelies,
In this video I show you how I make Terrazzo plant pots from scratch using my own DIY terrazzo and a brand new mould from Amazon. This is the most incredible mould and is linked below on my Amazon Store Front.
When it comes to Terrazzo I find the whole process fun until sanding! ha I am not a sanding lover .. However the results are just stunning to me.
This is the way I have chosen to do it all .. You may choose a different method. If you have a miracle 5 mins sanding hack please share :) lol
These pots took so much sanding I simply could not share it all with you. I do however, share the basic techniquie I used and what sand paper grits worked best for me.

Oh Claire these are gorgeous. Wee tip for you - get a wooden disc and glue a dense sponge onto the front and a shaft into the middle of it. Wrap your sandpaper onto the sponge, place the shaft into a drill and switch it on - makes short work of sanding!

I can not tell you how much immense enjoyment I get out of watching you create these pieces!! I love the crumbing of the jesmonite. I love love love watching you mix of all the pieces into the liquid stuff and pouring it in the moulds. Ahhh it’s so satisfying to watch. And then de-moulding is like my favourite bit of all as we get to be surprised with you as to how they’ve turned out!! Love these videos!!!! Great job lovely keep them coming!!! These videos are amazinggggg Claire! Lol you ve got me addicted 🤣 I made my first set of coasters and trinket tray with Jesmonite after binge watching your channel and I'm in love with this medium!
Quick thought: maybe consider rolling up a thick paper into a cone (like a funnel for icing types) and then pour your jesmonite through it., So it gets to the bottom neatly without getting onto the sides etc!

    Hi Claire.
Firstly, I just wanted to say I love what I've seen on your channel so far. It also gets the creative side of my brain going. I'd like to ask a couple of questions if you don't mind?
So, I am a woodworker in my spare time and I'll have a play with epoxy now and then which, I see you also do.
If I wanted to create my own form/mold for a resin poor, I'd use MDF, silicone to seal, then tuck tape or similar along with mold release. Can something similar be done with Jesmonite?
Also, which type of jesmonite do you use for the plant pots and trinket trays? And, how does this respond to woodworking tools? Such as files, saws or even a router? Does it take well or is the jesmonite likely to break?
And finally, if you did a jesmonite poor and let it cure, and then did another poor on top, wound the 2 poors adhere/stick to each other?
Sorry for the war and peace but I find this really interesting.
    Thanks and take care
    Matt

Claire, you enthusiasm has come across in your videos to me. I’ve only just received it and I must say I am a little nervous. I have also bought some Ausmonite which is made in here in Australia. I haven’t used that yet as I’m not sure of how much to add to get the result.

Hi Claire! When my terrazzo dries after sanding it has diferent color tones (I guess they are permanent water marks), any advice on how to avoid them? I do realize I wet the pieces maybe too much (even submerge them in the bucket of water). Do you think it could be that? Thank youuu

Superb ….May i ask your advice. How long you suggest to dry (setting) before sanding? How long do we need to take after applying bee wax or sealer?

The pots look great,l have the retarder and have used it,if you follow the ratio it takes hours to set, have since found out use a pipette and use drops of it,l am still learning lol,l watched videos by Resin Hut as that is how she use,s it,as for sanding,l do not wait until fully cured to start sanding but then again l find sanding therapeutic.😀

    • @ClairesCraftyCorner
      @ClairesCraftyCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Heyyyy Janet ... thank you so much ! I cannot wait to use the retarder but thanks for the great tip ... I will use a small amount ... It would have been helpful to use with a customer who wanted 4 lidded pots the same colour ! Honestly it started to set before I could pour the last pot and I had to do it twice ! So the retarder really would have helped me there !
I always sand straight out of the mould too .... 24 hours is too hard for me 🤣🤣🤣
