So glad you picked it up :) Btw fun fact Before I bought a ukulele I actually learned songs with an imaginary ukulele HAHA So that way, when I got my ukulele, I already knew a few songs It was really weird, but it seemed so natural to me Probably because it’s a pretty simple instrument for anyone to be able to play:) And same! I never had any tempo problems:) I’ve just always noticed tempos and things since I was little! Glad you can relate Things that I can’t do: E chord 😂

Before I ever had a guitar as a child I sorta learned some chords by taking a strip of cardboard and drawing the strings and frets on it to learn chords.
I really enjoyed this video! Gosh you have some such a long way. I did recognice Riptide right off from your first coule of hours praticing. I love that you have your own veriation on what you were taught too. Its great your making playing your own in every way. Your facial expressions through this video are great and add life and your personaliy as you show us what your learned. Your such an awesome human :) I'm glad you love playing so much. This is so so inspiring! I started learning ukulele a week ago and have been trying to play Riptide too, but I'm having trouble holding the ukulele properly and pressing down on the strings. Hope it gets better soon :(

I don't play uke but I've been playing guitar for just over a year and I still haven't figured out plucking. But this is so great! Keep it up! Sidenote: I love your background music for the end. I've started within the past week and I can already play pretty fluently with some songs along with singing to them, but I would like to learn more. Just search a song and insert “ukulele fingerstyle tutorial” and see what comes up. Bernadette Teaxhes Music is AMAZING, so is Dylan Lane, Elise Ecklund.. just surf around on TH-cam a bit and you’ll find things! Don’t give up and practice every day, and don’t shy away from the things that are difficult. I promise you’ll get them eventually ☺️

No no no, you're not slow at learning!! You learn at your pace and that's perfect for you. :) I was very very impatient to learn fingerpicking, so I started trying to figure it out right away, plus I had so much free time to play ukulele for hours each day. Don't feel bad about your progress! You deserve to be proud :) (I made this video almost two years ago and I cringe looking back on it, I seem really cocky which was not my intention)
Have you heard of and/or listened to Dodie Clark? She's a singer-songwriter on TH-cam too, and her main instrument is the ukulele. If you're ever looking for some really nice lesser-known ukulele songs to cover, her music is great. Some of it has plucking patterns and the like, but some of it is also more simplistic, so it's a nice variety of difficulty levels to work with. She also does ukulele covers of some songs (so if you wanted to try and teach yourself any of the songs she has covered, you could try watching her videos and learning from there). Anyway, I think you might like her stuff. :) She's a master at writing lyrics, too.

cool idea for a video! the progress you made in 6 months is pretty dope. the chord transitions in riptide are so daMN smooth, and yesss that chucking though. i'd recommend getting a strap, it helps with fingerpicking! plus you can play standing up. and is that some un poco loco picking i hear?? the random showboating thing i believe you got from petey forrest, and i heckin LOVE his content. i also relate to the rhythm and tempo thing, it's like a have a metronome in my body lmao. can't relate to the original songs though, i've only written one and uhhh never again. the only thing i would correct is the pronunciation of the 'ukulele, everything else is great! also, if you could mosey on over to my channel and check out some of my stuff that'd be awesome :)

I generally don’t need to use my knee unless I’m plucking certain things. And hey, both pronunciations for ukulele are correct, actually. Watch Elise Ecklunds video on it, if you haven’t already ;)
i have seen that video that you're referring to, and boy do i have a bone to pick with it. the common pronunciation didn't just ~happen~ to evolve in the english language. it happened when white people came over to hawaii and decided that the original pronunciation was too hard for them. and they were corrected. something elise said was, "Whenever English speaking people started using the word, they just adapted it to their language. I'm not saying they were right to change it, but it just happened. [...] I really don't hear people say it the traditional way ever. Which I agree is kinda sad, but it's just how things went down." first of all, they didn't "adapt it to their language," they bastardized, anglicized, and whitewashed it. saying things like "but it just happened" and "but it's just how things went down" is just erasure at this point. and second, this is exactLY why someone with a huge social media platform should use the correct term, because they definitely weren't right to do it and it needs to change. the original pronunciation is a term that has meaning, tradition, and is a part of hawai'ian culture. the fact that the 'ukulele became "a trend of pop culture" is not an excuse. we need to respect the original term. so basically, there's only one correct pronunciation. sorry for the long comment, but i'm so mad at this video and it requires a long, thoughtful comment thing.

I do think that, compared to other instruments, it's one of the easiest instruments to play. But it DOES take a lot of practice to get really good at it :)
