    “How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
    Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
    Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
    Welcome to the Young Nails family!

    Going through my pricing, and instituting my new prices…. And hearing my clients tell me, “It’s about time!!!” And I’m also finding that it’s making it so much easier to afford that additional glitter or polish color that someone asked me for. That little price increase just paid for a 3D gel class AND a one stroke class, which in turn allowed me to add something more to my service menu. By the way, Mission Control paints are great for one stroke painting! If YN offered 3D gel, I’d be promoting that too!

    Buy as you go. Don't go crazy buying up colors and art supplies right out of the gate. Set yourself up with some good essentials and build your collection over time. And keep good track of your inventory!

    I rarely but once in a while if I give something “small” for free to a nice customer I will make sure to tell them it’s complimentary from me NOT from the shop so when they come back they don’t expect it’s free from my coworkers etc.
    It’s mind blowing to me that many customers don’t understand why it cost more to do a special shape and more for much longer length nails. I’m spending more time + effort + products to get you that look 🤷‍♀️

    Love this biz talk episode. The salon I work in won’t let us use a efile. At all my other salons that’s how I did everything. But at my new place no efile, no acrylic, only hard gel if fixing a broken nail. So when we get a stubborn gel “polish” and it won’t soak off. We have to file it all off. We only have 15 mins to remove using hand file and soaking.

    • @kathykov1
      @kathykov1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just had a new client come in with a pretty thick application of a gel polish that is supposed to soak off in 5-10 minutes depending on with of the 3 top coats you used.
      50 minutes later......soak file...soak file...soak file...
      I honestly believed that she really didn't have that polish on.

      So far all I've worked in is salons that don't let us use an efile. N doing that all day was hard on my hands. I think it's because people have had bad experience with them, and think it's the efile did damage. I hope you have a better experience than I did!!

    I’m not a qualified tech I do my own and a few family members I have in the past had acrylics done I went to a “cheaper” nail salon and got a set for £25 and it looked like a £25 set it was wonky when I asked for it to be redone he just looked at me like a was being picky etc I think if you charge cheap prices to be honest people are going to think the work you do isn’t great I always say don’t undersell yourself not just in nail salons but and person who provides a service great video guys even though I don’t have a nail business I love your videos 💕

    Tysm for this! I’m starting a small mail business in a room in my home and I was just finalizing my prices yesterday thinking, if I have to change the shape or length, I have to charge bcuz I just learned how to change the shape not long ago. I practiced for weeks. If I DONT charge, I spent all that time learning w/o compensation.
    You guys covered a lot of small details that can be missed by beginners in the biz like me so Ty!

    I tell my techs, exactly what you guys said, don't go crazy trying to do those crazy designs and sitting 4 hours with clients, when you can make money, build clientele and do well, doing gel Manis and pedis. When you get to a point that you're faster with art etc. THEEN you'll make $$$.

    I charge 1$/glitter, like Tracy I get the glitter out its 1$, and I got yelled at by other techs that I'm swindling my clients. I was like wtf?! Its only 1 $ and they said that since glitter is cheap to buy i shouldn't charge at all. I said no I have a range of choices that I had to pay, it's investment in my business and it has to make a profit and its takes time to apply. I was just flabergasted at being called a thief for charging an extra in my business

    I love how much you guys have been touching lately on "charge for it!" For every little service or extra supply used. It's easy in the beginning to fall into not wanting to overcharge, so hey, just throw in "extras" for free! Until all those extras start costing you extra

    • @stardustfactory8311
      @stardustfactory8311 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking of doing military, student or first time customer discounts. Or having a gift baggie of one item and my biz card but when I told my bf, he said no to discounts immediately. He said ppl will try to swindle you any way they can, don’t give them an in.
      It’s hard to see that these little things would affect me but his cutthroat approach really highlighted that for me 😂

    The kits at nail schools around here are like $150-200. Sounds like $65 was still a great deal!

    I really need to do this! I started charging for nail art. I always gave away two designs and then clients take advantage and Would pick timing consuming nail art.

    So true I did that in the beginning & then changed prices like Tracy explained in a different video so I went with that. My clients understood & they still come bk. They been there since I started. So yes I'm thankful for them.

    I gave a away nail art for a few years. What was I thinking? 🤔
    The moment I let my clients know that I was now charging, not a single word.

    When it comes to nail art, clients either "get it" or they don't. I have a few clients that don't balk at paying an extra $20-35 for custum, handpainted nail art, and others (one is the owner of the hair salon I work at) that always seem put off when I charge an extra $5 for glitter or an accent nail decal. $5 is my minimum charge for nail art, even if it's simple and inexpensive to me, the set up and clean up time has to be included in my cost, I don't see why that's so difficult for some people to understand 🤦🏼‍♀️. My goal is to charge $30-35 an hour for my work, excluding pedicures, which is almost double.

    Right now I just do mine, my daughters (when u can get them to come see me) n my mom's nails. Can't afford to go to school yet. I hate the fact that I have to tell at least 1 person no pretty much every time I leave my house. Don't know if I could handle being a full-time tech though. I'm 45 already have neck, back, shoulder n wrist problems from factory work. Wish I would've found nails 20 years ago. Couldn't have made my body any worse than it is now lol

    I have a question about acrylic and forms. So I've been using your synergy gels and polygel to build my nails with forms, when needed. So since Im comfortable with forms should I use tips or stay with forms when trying to learn acrylic? Also I'm not a nail tech I'm just teaching myself from TH-cam at home

    • @elainematos3179
      @elainematos3179 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww I’m learning on TH-cam too , I think you can try both and pick whatever is faster for you but believe me forms are more profesional de end result is way better even on stilettos 🤔 is good to know both but I would stay with forms not a lot of ppl know how to use them and I think they are cheaper than buying different shapes and color tips , add me if you want to be friends ☺️

    In my case, I don't feel never able to begin to charge properly because if Me myself don't see them perfect I think they don't worthit. Some friends sees the job and says " whoooo nice! " and I "noooo! They're wrong here and here and there... “😕

    I have a question. Is there such thing as negotiating pricing with distributors/manufacturers of nail products? Also is it best to sell other things like lotions, bath and body products in the salon to increase profit margins?

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every company has their own policies on pricing/negotiating. Some companies may be willing to negotiate if you buy in bulk, but you would have to contact the company directly to find out.
      Selling retail can be a good source of additional income, but you have to be willing to educate your customers about the products so they know what they need.

  • @tcareccia
    @tcareccia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Reducing price and giving stuff away for free devalues yourself and attracts the wrong clientele anyway. The people
    Seeking a deal are great to fill spaces, but fill those spaces with people who understand and appreciate your craft!!

    make sure NOT to be the Family and friends Tech is huge!! Not talking about your mum or kids here.. But all other family are paying!! If not you will lose money and free time doing your family and friends.. And they WILL get angry at you for not having time for them on xmas eve or night before a party etc And if you dare saying ‘okay.. but you gotta start paying so I don’t lose money on your nails.’ You will become stamped cheap etc Even if you barely cover the products.. You will se who’s actually your friends really fast being a tech/hairdresser etc
