Kelly, your talk about the amount of time it takes for homework is a subject that is fresh in my mind even though my kids are in the early 30’s. I felt their childhood was partially robbed from them. I was blessed with 2 children who loved school and were very studious. They were hard workers and dedicated to the responsibilities of school. I just felt they had spent a long day in school and then had hours upon hours of home work everyday for the rest of their school years. I spoke to many teachers trying to lighten their load to no avail. We did what they were directed to do, and somehow got through it. My kids also took piano lessons, son did karate and daughter daughter dance class. Then in high school they both did band which is very time consuming. Again I was lucky to have kids who somehow managed it all. (Not without some stress though). I truly wondered though how other students who struggled or didn’t have the family support got through it. My thoughts are with you as you continue through the educational process all while keeping up with all of life’s other responsibilities. Best wishes to you.

Beautiful cards, Kelly, as usual. Thank you for doing the comparison. Also, thank you for being a parent who realizes that your child can do things they shouldn't. I think too many parents think their kids are perfect...lol!

Thanks so much for sharing this comparison! Also, I have two boys 3rd and 1st and the homework kills me, too! And I'm a teacher...lol! I did definitely reconsider the homework load for elementary students after becoming a mom.

From the get-go I thought I was going to like the Zig card best - but lo & behold I fell in love with the Inktense (sp?) card! As you mentioned, they provide a more realistic look (in your capable, talented hands anyway). I really like the color you were able to achieve- wow!

Lovely cards! I’m def a Zig girl, but realistically based on my magnolia, it would be a much, much softer pale pink/lilac. I’m going to give it a whirl, but not with Zigs. Maybe plain watercolour?
I was listening to you and thinking “but aren’t you on mat leave for the first year”? And dad gets time off too? Then i realized you’re probably in the US. No idea how you moms manage, but you shouldn’t have to. And I’d very politely ask the teacher to send the math homework home one sheet a day or if she must bundle it (why???) do it on Monday!

Lovely cards and great story time as always. I prefer the muted color I think. It reminds me of the muted look of a botanical watercolor. That said the zig card is just plain fun. Love them!

Pretty cards Kelly. I was a assistant preschool teacher for 3 years at a small Christian preschool and All the kids got packets of homework. Granted the amount was different given the age of the kids (2-5) . The older kids (4-5 yr olds) got more since they were going.off to elementary school, on the same token, kids today even in elementary school et way more than we did in the 90s. There was no common Core then. Though I didn't really give teachers any discipline issues in elem. school, I did go through a phase In 4th grade where I'd get up a walk around the classroom for a few minutes, my teacher after a few times of me doing this, sent my mom a note ( pen 🖊️ and paper , the original email/texting circa 1990s lol 😂). My mom sat me down and explained very calmly and succinctly why l couldn't get up and walk around whenever I wanted to and I said ok and just like that stopped. My mom when she received the note , didn't go up to school and curse my teacher and the principal out telling my teacher he was lying on me. Parents , not all but many are unfortunately very reactionary , granted they may have reasons to be but many times their reasons aren't equal to the situation that might be @ hand Pandemic or not, we're all stressed but that doesn't give anyone the right to unload in someone else.

Love your cards I'm an inktens girl, I just love how they work. I don't have any real brush markers, I do have some arteza markers but only use them from a block as they don't move well straight to paper.
Poor peanut that's a ridicules amount of math home work in one night , surely this is why some kids go off some subjects.

Thank you for this. I have the Derwent and I love them but found them difficult to use, your techniques on here will help with that sooo much. Thank you again,. take care, big hugs from Australia, and congratulations on your delicious little lady.

Those are both pretty & I do like bright colors, but my fave one is the Derwent. I adore magnolias, but I really love the white to cream magnolias. I'm southern so it's nearly required to live magnolias & gardenias lol

    Lovely work!
I would ask the teach for the work at the beginning of the week or one a day like someone else suggested.

I find that the zigs are much easier to blend on Bristol smooth paper.

Again you’ve inspired me to try something different. They do look so different. I like bright so I’m going to try my zig markers! Thank you for taking the time out of your time with your family to do the videos. It must be hard to fit them all in when you have a new baby AND a young man in the house. So appreciated

I like both cards but the pencil flower is my favorite. I find zigs work best for me when there is not a significant amount of shading needed. Take care and thanks for all the watercolor tips.

Thanks for the comparison and the beautiful cards, it is very true when we compare ourselves to others we will be unhappy so thank you for the words of wisdom. Five hours of math homework in one day? Yikes! Did it have to be turned in the next day or did he have a couple of days to accomplish it? That seems excessive for a grade schooler to get done in one night. I remember in grade school the home work pages were put up in the chalk board and the date when it was required to be turned in.

Sorry if I missed it, where are the sentiment stamps from please. Did the teacher say WHY so much home work? That's crazy and I'm a retired teacher. Knowing other teachers give out homework, she's not considering what's best for them. They are not learning anything, they are cramming to get it done. No retention. There is no learning going on when you stress and rush a child. I might suggest her giving a valid reason if she hasn't already, then a discussion with principal. My opinion. 🙃 Pretty cards BTW.

Welcome, I am sorry if I overstepped. As a retired teacher I dislike seeing injustice and disservice. For the age group that that teacher is dealing with it's not productive teaching. Again my opinion. ( I do have a degree in Early Childhood Development also) so I have science to back up the stress she is causing, which shutdown the learning process. Anyway. Good luck with it. And did I miss where the sentiment stamps came from?
