Wow I just learned about something new in my own state of NJ. Thanks for this. Looks JUST LIKE the old Goethals Bridge right near me
Heard they are considering building a replacement. It's definitely showing its age. Thanks for the trip!
This bridge was opened in 1928, so the replacement is long overdue.
It will probably take about 10-15 before it's actually completed.
@@joelfrombethlehem opened on the very same day as the old Goethals Bridge, and due to the near-identical designs, yes a replacement is desired.
Considering the beautiful replacement they did for the Goethals Bridge, I'm surprised Outerbridge still hasn't been done yet.
The Goethals Bridge used to be a near identical twin of this one, with its rusty cantilever-truss design and 4 incredibly narrow lanes.
Nice drive across that bridge from Perth Amboy NJ to Staten Island NY
That's the Bridge I remember at 3 o'clock in the morning - so narrow I was afraid I'd hit the car next to me.

I drive a semi. I hate going across this bridge.
Thanks for the ride! I've used the bridge many times.
The bridge was named for Eugenius Harvey Outerbridge, the first chairman of the then-Port of New York Authority and a resident of Staten Island. Rather than calling it the "Outerbridge Bridge", the span was labeled a "crossing", but many New Yorkers and others mistakenly assume the name comes from the fact that it is the most remote bridge in New York City and the southernmost crossing in New York State. (Wikipedia)
Wow. Interesting to know. I immediately thought it was named "Outerbridge" due to its location.
Nice outerbridge crossing!!
It hard to describe how high up in the air you are when your crossing that bridge
I drove that bridge for the first time I was so afraid I started having anxiety it’s so high.
I was born in Perth Amboy. 16 bucks for the toll...ouch!!
They're brutal with the tolls in these parts!
@@MileageMikeTravels Sadly, you get used to it. No one looks at their EZPass statement.
@@MileageMikeTravels that's the PANYNJ for you. Yet when you have, let's say the (New) Goethals Bridge and the Verrazano Bridge on I-278 East, you pay the $16.00 toll coming into Staten Island, yet you do not pay to go from Staten Island to Brooklyn. the same applies to I-278 West from Brooklyn to I-95/NJTP. In fact, with New Jersey, whether entering from NY State, Delaware, or Pennsylvania in regards to toll bridges, with one exception, you always enter the state free and you pay to leave; the exception being the Dingman's Ferry Bridge in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area in which both directions have to pay.
I saw this bridge from NJ 35 NB earlier today.
A $16 toll. Yeah. Wonder how much of that money is disappearing into the pockets of politicians or connected Individuals.
All of it plus more as they borrow money against it as well.
Btw: they could have just called it the Outerbridge and been done with it.
The lanes are too narrow on this bridge. I hate going across in a semi.
