    ⚠️Brake Bias Edit: My controller was decievingly Making me lock up under braking with front bias so I was adjusting to rear. The brake bias should be set to *45* to the front. Not 55 to the rear. My new controller is more sensitive than the old, and there is less FFB in the RT so I have been locking up a bit more due to that. Sorry for the confusion!!!⚠️

      The braking in Forza is backwards, always has been. Sliding the slider to the RIGHT (towards rear) makes the brakes MORE front biased (most real street cars are approx 80/20, f/r). Not sure why they felt the need to reverse the settings but it's been like this since the OG Forza Horizon. Also, they changed the braking feel and action in FH5, now no matter how hard you hit the brakes they don't lock up instantly, it's like always driving with abs on in FH4... they fade to lock instead of locking up instantly, it's really taking me some practice to get the feel of it.

    Hey, thank you for this. I really liked how you explained how each step affects performance rather than just giving us arbitrary numbers left to mystery. Unfortunately for me, when I tried this on tracks that had jumps, my car almost always bounced so hard into a front flip it would take me out of the race. Otherwise I loved the build. Tweaked a couple things and got a great rally car. Cheers!

    I have tested, tested, tested, and re-tested rally tires vs. Off-road.
    I've discovered that for dirt/mixed tracks, rally tires work well and gain an advantage over off-road on the tarmac parts.
    (Except for the Baja scramble, probably because the dirt track there is more sand, and thus, more difficult for tires to plow through than on most country road type, gravel roads.)
    Having said that, overall, off-road tires, especially considering their lower pi cost, are simply better than rally tires overall.
    In every car when it's an Off-road race, they are MUCH MUCH better. Also in every car, on any kind of dirt they are better.
    Rally tires only advantage over off-road tires is on tarmac on mixed tracks, and that's it.
    Most importantly I've found that, while rally tires have an edge on the tarmac, it easily loses that edge on dirt, and when you throw in the pi different, it turns out that, except in very track specific cases, there is never a reason to choose rally tires over off-road for dirt/mixed tracks and especially in off-road races.
    In other words, for rally races use Off-road tires. Period. You are waiting pi using rally tires on dirt tracks, and you do not gain an advantage!
    Ironically, rally tires, due to the lower pi than most tarmac track tires pi cost, and yet still having a very good grip on tarmac tracks, can often replace semi slicks and slicks, with similar performance, (and much better performance in wet
    conditions!), for road races.
    I believe that a lot of the builds that have been done using semi slicks and slicks, for tarmac tracks, could be done better with rally tires.
    You get similar grip, certainly good enough, (and again, you get better grip in rain), for a lower pi cost, which can be spent on horsepower or other needs such as brakes etc...
    Bottom line is, the tires we got used to using in Forza horizon four, are no longer the same, we need to rethink tires choices in nearly every case. The slight grip advantage offered by semi slicks over rally tires is easily offset by the lower pi cost and versatility of rally tires in a majority of cases, (note I did NOT SAY ALL CASES!) I said most.

    • @ConnerSpeed6
      @ConnerSpeed6  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I install offroad race tires on ALL my cars used for rally or offroad racing! They are just better. Especially with being able to add extra HP. As for the rally tires. Yes, I install them on some A Class Road builds and S1 as well. They are a bit of a META upgrade in S1. For example. The Ferrarri FXX is INSANE in S1 for road racing, and the best builds use rally tires! It's insane 🤣

    • @fargomonkey5133
      @fargomonkey5133 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ConnerSpeed6 exactly! You said what I was trying to say more succinctly.
      You're exactly right, but I think that must tuners find it counterintuitive, probably because of the name.
      They see the name "rally tires" and they think that it won't work well on road/street races, and almost from habit ingrained from Forza 4, they install some kind of slicks.
      It's a mistake though! Rally tires are the best use of your pi on most road builds A class and down especially. Once you get into hyper cars that changes a bit.
      Bottom line you're exactly right, if it's designed for any kind of dirt racing, even mixed tracks, put off-road tires on.
      If it's for tarmac, check the rally tires before automatically reaching for the semi slicks/slicks, you just might be much better off with rally tires.

    • @ConnerSpeed6
      @ConnerSpeed6  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      RWD requires some decently soft rear springs and ARB's. Plus, lowering the rear accel on your diff to around 20!

  • @TheBanditSlick
    @TheBanditSlick 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Quick question about damping. Around minute 14:20;
    So far, I understood that the softer the setting, the less resistance in the spring, hence the faster the actuation. If this is what you meant then ignore below, else... well, here it goes;
    For example, if the rebound was set to a softer setting, it would lower the resistance of the rebound/bounce back. Hence a faster actuation as there is less force to overcome. Making the tires return to the ground faster as the spring decompresses faster.
    If the rebound was set to a stiffer setting, this would in turn increase the resistance of the rebound/bounce back. Hence a slower actuation as there is more force to overcome. Making the tires return to the ground slower as the spring decompresses slower.
    TL;DR:
    soft = less resistance = spring actuates faster = (rebound) tires bounce back to ground faster
    stiff = more resistance = spring actuates slower = (rebound) tires bounce back to ground slower
    I'm just not sure what's what anymore, someone please enlighten us.

    • @ConnerSpeed6
      @ConnerSpeed6  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, updating this guide a bit. I have been putting my rebound around mid to high 6's, and my rear rebound about 5-8 points higher than front. Bump is about 60% of those values. So slightly stiffer Damping is actually better to keep the car from being too bouncy

    • @ConnerSpeed6
      @ConnerSpeed6  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a common thing. Especially if you are using offroad tires. The rally tires will have better turn in and more grip on tarmac sections. Offroad are far better in all roads that are not tarmac. Maybe lower your front ARB's down to single digits, and rear ARB's to about 25. See if that helps. Also, lower your front accel on dif to 0.

      Lower your springs almost the way down soft. Like. Literally almost all the way soft. After that. Make your front rebound about 6.5, rear about 7.2. The bump should be about 60% of the rebound front and rear. Lower your front ARB's to 6.00, rear to about 24.

    I guess I'm the only one that puts the Diff Center Balance less than 50% (40-45% these days). Maybe it's because I've spent most of my life driving front-wheel drive cars. I like to enter turns relatively slowly and hit the acceleration early. With more front bias, the car launches out of the turn without coming around. Forza tune is great app indeed, especially if u do alot of tuning, fast, simple and effective. Just be wary that rally tunes seem to have way too soft springs for tracks, otherwise I haven't ran into any problems with it on fh5. App will probably get updated spring calculations soon anyways now that the game is out.
      Also going to hijack this comment and ask about transmission in general, not just for rally. Is there any benefit on running 7-10 gears on cars or should I always just stick with regular 6?

    As a completely new player and one who wants to feel at least a little competitive online (offline is a joke in any car) I'm basically copying this build entirely, but out of curiosity are there good databases or websites dedicated to people sharing their entire build and tunes? I'm not educated enough on the subject to even consider attempting this stuff on my own and it doesn't seem like something I will pick up and understand well enough any time soon.

    • @ConnerSpeed6
      @ConnerSpeed6  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I hope it helps for you. Maybe a bit tight off of big jumps on landing, but it's grippy!
      As for tunes, get in the car you want to get a tune for, pause the game, right bumper once, click on tuning, press action button (middle left button on controller) and then click load tune. That will pull up shared tunes for that car from the community!

    • @DirEnGay
      @DirEnGay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ConnerSpeed6 Yeah I was picking other peoples onlines but most of the cars I tried are underdogs and have a bunch of 1 star tunes. I had no problem finding pre-made ones but I have no idea just exactly how competitive they are, and that's where I think I'll improve my knowledge and car roster by finding experts or good websites for specific DIY tunes. Plus the random ones I tried online haven't all been great and they lock me out of tweaking.

      @@ConnerSpeed6 I got it somewhat functional using your guide, but for some reason the car really likes the offroad tires more so than the rally tires, plus I found it did better with PSI 18-19 rather than the typical 23-24 I usually use.
