I used to work for these guys, back in the 90s and early 2000s. Ross and Nat were the greatest. I had the lowest level jobs there were, i.e. tortureboarding, sanding bottompaint, bunging... but when a boat was launched from our boatyard it brought tingles down your spine. Long live G & B. Long live When & If.
Outstanding craftsmanship, & you guys clearly have boat building running threw your veins! A joy to watch, I'd like to see a video of a boat being built, start to finish!
Hi I was crew on your yacht Zorra in Antigua about 20 yrs ago. Beautiful boat and a first class skipper. Great times - I wonder where Zorra is now. Great yard you can feel the love for wooden boats.
Great video and what a great story. Combining two of my 3 passions in life, sailing and woodworking into a working business...... WOW. It almost makes me want to move back to the US. I do SO miss sailing the NE coastline. Thank you for posting this
Quality craftsmanship, that ladies and gentlemen are some of the last in the craft. Next time Im in the Vinyaaad Im gonna check these guys out. Very impressive work.
If you are into nostalgia, or Rum Running, Please Google Erie Tall Ships Festival September 2013 for a view of 8 to 10 Tall Ships on the Great Lakes this year. Sadly, Erie no longer has a wooden boat manufacturing facility, only repair shops. Visit our Maritime museum and a training facility building wooden craft on our Erie Bayfront.
What a beautiful Schooner, I want to build and own that same kind of vessel. Looks like the 65’ auxiliary schooner Juno? But its difficult to tell by the video
+vincent7520 Check again. The bag is not plastic. Bags made of a mesh material or canvas are commonly used to prevent broken glass from going in the water. It's just a matter of being decent, not spreading broken glass every time you christen a boat. I've seen this done in footage of WWII battleship christenings, so it's nothing new.
+vincent7520 On of my earlier memories is of my father building a wooden sailboat in the early 1970's. When it was launched he put the bottle of champagne inside a stocking which was then wrapped in cellophane. A funny (little bit funny) side story was that he didn't want the glass bottle to damage the timber so he lashed a metal hand planner to the bow, above deck level where it was a bit concealed from those watching below. When my mother swung the bottle, the bottle didn't break but it did break the hand planner into two pieces
I had the pleasure of visiting these guys several years ago and drinking beers by the water after work. Was a great honor!!!!
Blue hulled "Here & Now" is an absolute gorgeous boat, that would be my dream boat...nothing more beautiful than a wooden sail boat!
