    1206 was the first big tractor I ran about 38 years ago. Tried to buy that tractor for the last 30 years and finally got it bought about 5 years ago. Love the 1206’s !!

    • @glennreece5974
      @glennreece5974 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it was a good friend of the family. I asked about it for years and in 2015 I asked him again and I was kind of shocked when he said come and talk to me about it. He was 87 years old at the time and told me if he didn’t sell it his kids would have to in time. He told me he would like me to have it rather than anybody else. So we got together and I payed the price and drove it home. Mow and rake hay mainly with it now. Really enjoy running the old 12 !

    Pretty proud of their invention of the turbo. Sadly Allis Chalmers had already been marketing their D19 with a turbo

    I always wanted a 1206 or 1456 but I settled inbetween and got the affordable (at the time) 1256. Now they have hit collector status as well. Little over kill for my small beef operation, but I like being able to pull a good sized manure spreader to clean barn fast.

      The 1256 is every bit as good of choice as the 1206. The 1456 actually more or less superseded it rather than complemented it.

      We ran a couple 806’s, had a 1206 and a 1456, back in the 70’s and wish I had them still, out in the quonset today. Great looking, plenty of power, and loved that flatter tire tread. What would those restored sell for today.

    There were actually two versions of the 1206, the Farmall 1206 row crop which included a narrow front axle option and the International 1206 standard. The standard tread version was designed particularly for broadacre grain farming.

      Glad you enjoyed! Always wanted a 1206, just can't stomach the prices. There also isn't that much more of a tractor there than my 806. They both pull 4x14 or 4x16 around here. Need at least a 14xx or 15xx before you can pull 5. Regards & have a Happy New Year!

    Optional power steering... Ha! Imagine driving a 1206 without power steering.
    Well maybe if it was a narrow front it wouldn't be as bad. NF 1206s are pretty cool looking rare machines too.

    • @michaelporter6825
      @michaelporter6825 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hard to have no power steering when there was no steering box with a rod from steering wheel to the axle! I have a 1206 in the process of being brought back to life by the Vantage Vocational School. hasn't ran for 40+ years!

    • @TonyM132
      @TonyM132 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelporter6825 Good point. Apparently there must have been some mechanical steering linkage made for at least a few of them, or else there was a major disconnect between design/manufacturing and marketing in this film strip.
      Your 1206 has been parked since 1981 huh? It'll be cool to bring that old girl back to life. Maybe not too many hours on her then? I guess someone could still rack them up over 15 years though.

    • @michaelporter6825
      @michaelporter6825 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TonyM132 I think it was a misprint, as all the 06 series had integral hydrostatic power steering. the last IH tractors with mechanical steering controls was on the 460-560-660 tractors. and the hours was unknown as the original tach didn't work, and showed 6600+ - hours, and no cable to run it. from 1965 when it was new, it was the main horse on that farm, until the man got cancer, and his son in law took over his farming operation. he was a John Deere guy, and parked the tractor. it sat for 30 years there, then another guy got it and parked it in a sweaty tin shed for another 10 years. I got it 3 years ago so it was the horse for only 13 years, but in those days before spray, alot of tillage work, and even cultivating added up hours fast! 2021-1965=56 years, -43= 13.

    • @Jessup004

    They were considered badass back in the day; I don't know about 7 plows though - I had a 1456 once and it would probably have handled 7 -

    • @kurtlikesoldmilwaukee9087
      @kurtlikesoldmilwaukee9087 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Back in those days all farmers moldboard plowed all their ground every year, so it turned over quite a bit easier, so it's very possible that the 1206 was able to pull a 7 bottom plow. It also depends on the width of the boards. Most plows back then had 14 inch boards, fast forward a few years, then 16 inch boards were more common.

    2:50 on slide. What's the gauge in the middle reading? Temp of engine is in main cluster, oil of engine and ta psi light is on dash. No Amp gauge looks like that... maybe a oil psi gauge???

      On my gas 806, it's an oil pressure gauge. On the diesels, it should be a fuel pressure gauge.

      That is a fuel pressure gauge. If the tractor has an RD injection pump, they have that. It could be an 806 shown there, because I thought 1206s only had the Roosa Master.
