One group was already living in the nation they feel themselves as a part of. Russia already had a shrinking population before the war, so why not give incentives to Russians in foreign countries to live in Russia proper? The answer is of course imperialism. @@wilberwhateley7569 yes they appear to be sacrificing huge swathes of men, but they've taken more than just a few yards in the past few months. My point is, how are they managing to to keep this going ? That will be much more interesting than the daily headline "Putin on the brink' !!

I'll tell you who took land from Mother Russia for the first time since WW2 and still holds it today.
Of course it isn't doing fine: it has been invaded by murderers and rapists
Regarding riches, who offers more to Trump and the people around him, Russia or Ukraine? It is Russia as Ukraine won't make any of them wealthier than they are today but Russian resources will.
So Russian resources are to become US property? Interesting. Maybe Russia will be the 51st US state, sans Putin.

You just built a straw man, try listening to the actual report. Ohh and maybe take a look at what is going on with the russian economy currently.
If that were true we would know it. I follow about 20 channels, not BBC, and none say that.
At the pace of 5 to 10 km per day, the russian army would have been in Kyiv long ago, but they are not. So there is a "small glitch" between the russian version and reality.

The only ones currently retreating are Ukrainian forces across almost all fronts. Russian forces will likely switch attention to Libya, but maintain a presence in Syria and rebuild relations with the new Syrian leadership as a buffer against Israel and the US encroachment there.

Yeah because they new regime is going to allow them to keep bases they have been causing atrocities from for the last decade.
Yeah they Syrians will be real receptive after Russia bombed their families for the past decade. Russia's gains continue to be marginal at best, in exchange for horrifying losses.

So many people here disregard the fact that many people from Donbass do not want to be government by Kiev
So many people here say "well they should move to Russia then" - is that what you want Russia to tell other Ukrainians? If they feel European, they should just leave their homes and go to Europe? A little thought goes a long way
So at the moment, what is the fight for? Ukraine has no chance in getting 1991 borders, is there any other option other than concession of territory?
That's a bit of a bad analogy. As far as I know Ukranians think of themselves as Ukrainian first, while Russians in Ukraine still think of themselves as Russians. One group was already living in the nation they feel themselves as a part of.
Russia already had a shrinking population before the war, so why not give incentives to Russians in foreign countries to live in Russia proper? The answer is of course imperialism. Russia needs people but it also needs resources, warm water ports and land where actual food can be grown.
Sure they could've continued to be part of the international community and traded for goods and services like a civilized nation but where's the fun in that?
It's an inferiority complex on a nation wide scale and it's just sad.
