I remember the first time I really listened to this piece intently.
I was 15 or so, in high school, and I was biking home from a party late at night, where I didn’t feel welcome or particularly included. ‘Oh well,’ I thought, ‘not like it’s never happened before.’
So I turned on my Mozart, and waited for him to take me somewhere. The first movement perfect for the atmosphere I was in, a cool, late spring, early summer night, biking home a little bit buzzed (though I knew better). It was energetic and peppy, light and airy, just what I needed to bike to on such a pleasant night… when suddenly, it slows down, and comes to its conclusion.
Then the second movement comes on. I appreciate what wonderful harmony I hear, the descending bass and ascending melody, as if seeing golden clouds painted on the sky of a setting sun, continuing, elaborating, with emerald fields, rolling hills, old, sturdy, trees, a winding river, a warm and gentle breeze, and a tired peasant, sighing, lamenting his lover’s passing, and giving into tears.
Oh wait… that was me. I had to stop biking, get off, and sit down under a tree in a park and weep at the music I was hearing, and stare at the stars.
The scene changed with the refrain of the main melody, to a nursing mother rocking a babe in her arms and humming the astonishingly profound tune I was hearing, to sing her child to sleep. Fittingly so, as I later found out, “andante cantabile” means, “slowly, in a singing manner.”
And then, as if to make a light-hearted joke out of me, Wolfgang woke me up from my dream with the third movement, shaking me by the shoulders, reminding me I had to bike home and get to bed; I had school in the morning!!!

Extraordinary sonority at 11:17 ... the pianist knows to bring that out with striking softness

Beautiful playing. It cannot get any better than this. I don’t think I’ll ever get to play this sonatas with such subtleness and lightness of touch. It’s such a treat. The mature sense of rhythm, the carefulness of dynamics, the tempo never feels rushed, the crystal clearness of everything, no perceptible mistakes. I wonder how many takes it must’ve taken to get such inmaculate recordings. (Given that they are not edited)
Common people won’t understand how incredibly difficult is too play this beautifully, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

Absolutely outstanding playing.....how did I know she was such a wonderful Mozart exponent. Moments of absolute magic in the slow movement in the f minor passage - the sound world is incredible and in the f major coda. Heavenly! The score is such a treat. Makes you feel closer to Mozart seeing it. Thank you 💜💜

Wunderschöne Interpretation dieser scheinbar leichten doch wesentlich perfekt komponierten Klaviersonate im lebhaften Tempo mit klarem doch zugleich elegantem Anschlag und mit perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Fast himmlisch!

Was Mozart bored or why did he notated the whole sonata in a different key signature??? I Player this Sonata myself. It is very strange to see all the notes a third higher! Thank you very much for your resent mozart sonatas upload! I am really enjoying listen to them!!!

He used Soprano clef. C is on the bottom line. Try reading choir works from that period and older. All voices have their own clefs.

@@bartjebartmans I was wondering the same thing, is there any specific reason why he would have written the sonata in soprano clef? Doesn't seem like the manuscripts in his older sonatas did that.

Strange that the soprano clef was still used so late in the 18th century.

Each composers have their pros and cons. We shouldn't be bias in the music community and people have their own opinions.
