Hey Ronny, I had the single arb swag for a few years now and discovered that the easyest way to get rid of the air wen folding it is leaving the main opening partially open and taking the time to direct all the air out then close it back. it does take a couple of minutes but then rolling it up is really easy.. I have the single ARB and would recommend it for sure.Ive had the Kings single and finally got sick of the moisture build up every time I used it . Best is with a self inflating mattress and placing the swag on a stretcher .
I had this swag for years and can't fault it. The poles don't worry me and really don't take that long to setup. I do agree it is annoying when rolling it up the air gets trapped but it's also not a deal breaker. Good to see an honest review.
Swags are probably the only thing on earth that defy the generally accepted laws of physics as they always seem to be bigger when packed away. Whilst I can see the appeal for a relatively good climate like here in Oz, you'd throw them in the bin anywhere else in the world you get poor weather regularly as you simply can't keep the outside outside. As for the cost, ARB are generally overpriced playing on the name for almost every single product. The only exceptions are the few things they actually do better than others like the compressors & bull bars, otherwise, there's equal quality products out there that aren't so pricey. I’ve got two ARB singles for my son and I. Sure they have 5 poles but the last 2 are super quick and don’t have any tension mechanisms that may break. I didn’t season our swags before the first trip and we copped heaps of rain and frost. Not a drop of water got in either of them. I reckon they are great and the mattress is super comfy. They have actually been better than I was expecting and I look forward to using them. So much so that the camper trailer sometimes get overlooked for the simplicity and comfort these swags provide.
The wife and I use the ARB double swag and our 4 year old daughter uses the ARB kids swag (slightly smaller than the single). We found the quality to be really good and the mattresses to be better than a lot of the others we tried. Canvas quality is great and we have never had any leaks. Only complaint is the lack of bag for the amount of money you spend so we jut got drifta swag bags
Hi Ronny Dahl, I was just thinking this morning if/when you might be getting the young apprentice/s involved in these unbiased videos. :) They do a great job. (And so do you as a dad). Swags are 'out of my league' for several reasons, but should be ok for most I guess. My 1st 'decent' 4x4 sojourn was way back in 1981, when I travelled 'clockwise' from Sydney to Darwin. For that I used one of those square 4/5-man centre-pole tents. Brilliant to set up. Off the roofrack & up in less than five minutes. Untie from roofrack, hurl, roll out, assemble top tube square, bang bang bang bang, unzip-walk-in-with-telescopic-pole, extend pole, walk out rezip. Done :) Last trip 2 3/4 months back to Darwin on The Ghan & camping in my Subaru Outback. 11,600 kms of which there were over 600 kms corrugated dirt. :)
Had ours for 5 years. My partner, the kelpie and I all sleep comfortably in it. Been in all kinds of weather with it and it’s small enough to fit along the base of the rear passenger seats. We swear by it. It’s got the comfort and quality that a lot of cheaper brands don’t have.
I have this swag in the double! I swear by it!!! I've owned 3 swags and this one is hands down the best! I like the fact that once it's set up, you can move it easily because it's freestanding. Im also claustrophobic, so this swag is perfect for me 😂😂😂 great review mate 👌
Ronny i bought a blackwolf ryebunk after your review and could not be happier. Quality product with two pole construction!!!! Camping by myself swag goes with me and more people i move up to a tent. Would love to see some more reviews on the blackwolf bushranger swag or turbo tents. Btw i have nothing to do with blackwolf just love their products! Esp the rybunk have used over 30 times and always the first to get the swag up compared to others with the traditional dome swag. Awesome content keep the vids going ronny.
Great review Ronny, I love my Darche Ridgedome King Single. Four poles but I roll it up with three folded up but still in place. I bought it from Snowys (cheaper than Darche direct) and bought an oversized bag for it. Sits on my roof rack and was used extensively on a recent 120 day trip and still in perfect condition.
Swags are the best for high altitudes, here in Vic High Country we camp on Mt Pinnibar over 1700 meters high. I use a Burke & Wills swag , amazing quality and lower to the ground so when it’s gets windy you just cannot feel it. What amazing views and sunsets from Mt Pinnibar , must see. 🔥⛰
It's big, bulky and bloody comfortable for one. Well made and you can purchase spare bow kits if your son leaves them behind somewhere like mine did. I have the ARB sleeping bag with the pillow insert and leave it in there at all times. Adds to the bulk and weight, wouldn't recommend it if you are short on space in your rig but it suits my requirements and happy with it.
I have had at least 6 swags of different styles and variations and the best I’ve come across so far is the southern cross canvas king swag. Plenty of room for a 6ft2 bloke and mrs. Build quality is second to none. But if budget doesn’t allow there are plenty of good cheaper options too. Best choice is a true freestanding swag, two end hoops and a cross pole in the middle.
I have one. We purchased it 2nd hand only been used twice for $150, for that money I can’t complain. But we. Normally leave the poles inside the sleeves and just undo the clips when packing up to make the setup quicker
Try the Darche Dirty Dee 1400, poles stay in (ends fold in), no air problems when trying to roll up. I replaced the foam mattress with an Exped Megamat 👌rolls up tight
I've got an ARB Swag, I do like it. I've used it in cold weather and it does keep the heat very well. Lots of ground tents that my friends have, it takes them longer to set up than mine. I've also got an RV3. I like that one better, but the size, it's even bigger.
I just ordered myself a big daddy deluxe swag as an upgrade form an oxtail Glenrowan swag which similarly to the Michel requires an internal middle pole
@ well I haven’t had any of the poles break on it, then again I haven’t had it out in extreme winds. I did have one of the storm flaps tie downs rip off but it’s not hard to sew it back on. If you are using this swag on its own without an awning, tarp or gazebo I wouldn’t recommend it due to its lack of waterproofing. I have found that mine leaks from the canvas-pvc seams and the stitching up the corners of the pvc. In more recent times this has become my good weather swag. It’s got great ventilation and plenty of space inside. The mattress is still really good (I got the 70mm mat). Considering you are interested in bad weather I would steer clear of kings swags. Go for a Darche dusk to dawn. They are slightly smaller than the big daddy but their build quality is on another level. I hope this helps mate
American swag owner here: first I absolutely love this swag. Completely weatherproof and works really really well in cold conditions. Warm condition is you have to open up and ventilate through all four mesh openings. Worth every penny. For more swing by my channel as I will do my own review 🤙🏼
To me a 3person 2sec F&B tent from Decathlon is a better choice. You can take a nap in the afternoon, the F&B keep it cool enough and no light inside once you close it. Much smaller size when folded. Can choose what mattress you want. After first 2-3 times you learn how to fold it really quick. Price is 1/2. This swag is big and heavy, if is raining you will get some rain inside when entering in it, like Ronny said no sleeping when the sun is up.
We have a Darche Dusk To Dawn 1400, used across the Flinders, NT all the way to Darwin across to Broome via the Gibb, and all over the place, and it has been excellent. No problems like the ARB one.
I have a double with a stretcher and I freaking love it!!! In the States, we don't have quite as many options as you so... I've had it in the desert when it was 103 F at 1 am and with the huge side windows open and a fan clipped above my head, it wasn't too bad. I've been in the cold as well and it is a lot of air to warm up, but with a good sleeping bag, I was comfortable. I do have to say that compared to a nylon tent, this thing is AWESOME!! It doesn't let as much light in as nylon so I'm able to sleep in for a little while anyway. It is huge when rolled up, but I find that it fits in the back of my Jeep perfectly with half the back seat folded down. I've spent many a night in a nylon tent and I'd have to say that I wouldn't trade this swag for anything! Well, maybe for a Conqueror trailer, but that's for another discussion. LOL!!
Ok, American bloke here, yes, that’s way too big! I went to Alaska with a backpack, 8’x8’ tent, sleeping bag, nice Thermorest pad, stove, cooking gear, clothes, wash up gear, and fishing tackle all a lot smaller than that thing! I was very comfortable for two weeks of rough camping. Plus I could almost stand up in me tent! I don’t understand this swag thing.
I can help as i've lived in the States and Aus and grew up with both swags and tents. I sleep WAAAAAAAAY better in swags. The canvas does incredible things for your wellbeing. They're cozy like you're in bed at home. However i despise huge swags and would NEVER buy this beast. What you described is a hiking setup, not a 4x4 setup. My swag only needs one pole so is ready to go within 1 min. When you spend a lot of time in the bush (as in weeks/months moving daily) this is HUGE for your morale. If i was in one spot for a long time i'd want a tent purely for space. Both have a purpose. Also Aussie bush is FAR harsher on your gear than AK. Sticks, tree roots, rocks, dust trashes tents. Puffy jackets ain't got no business down here either. Sad but true. We don't do straight tree trunks and soft pine needles down here. We do pokie twisted devil branches designed to hurt you ;) God i love AK...
You just need to leave the side zips open a couple of inches and it won't hold the air, my wife, myself and our dog fit quite comfy in our ARB Double Swag. Probably the best item I have from ARB, that and the twin onboard compressor. They only thing I don't like is how it fads in direct sun light. The poles are great, as it makes it free standing.
People can bag Adventure Kings all they want, but for (generally) under 200 bucks you can't go passed the Big Daddy Deluxe swag. Post Script - 450GSM on ARB canvas, 400GSM on Adventure Kings. Cannot justify + 3 times the price.
I've got the skydome in a single and I'm already onto my third set of poles in one year. I have used it for about 3 months of that year which to me still doesn't seem good enough. Im not sure of its because on the single they have to be bent around more being narrower or not but the sleeve where the poles clip into each other keeps tearing. In saying that ARB have replaced them every time but to warranty will run out soon
An interesting test. The mattress inside makes the tent big for transport. Only pick-up can carry it. I wonder why you do not use roof tents. Are there any special reasons? Greetings!
No-one mentions sleeping on ground or in air. Is there a better way to avoid critters? Some like the warmth and will try to snuggle up. I slept on the ground in Oz and didn't have any problems, but often wondered after seeing a snake outside my tent in Mexico.
Hi Ronny, love your videos. I have a question. I noticed you used a crash pad swag I. A recent video. I am looking to buy a done swag and trying to decide what’s best. What is your recommendation. It would also help to know where it is actually made. My preference would be for Australian made as opposed to Chinese made.
Great video never thought of swags before, my old landrover has a full roofrack that is boarded with ply it also has a ladder fixed at the back, so a free standing sway with side entry can you see where I'm going ? yes roof swag, could be my perfect off the ground solution, has anyone done it ? got to be cheaper and easier than a roof tent.
Great review. I have been considering getting a new swag to replace my 20+ year old Southern Cross (double swag). But from what I have seen, swag design seems to have got way too complex, which defeats the purpose of the original swag concept and its advantage over a tent. I have one pole, it is set up in under a minute and I have an unobstructed view of the night sky. Change is not always progress.
I'd also be interested in this. Not necessarily a recommendation (which is bolder) but more "what is the least worst option you have used personally or know of within your group" for 1. Single traveller who'd potentially use a stretcher like the Darche 100 XL as a raised platform for the swag (900 or 1100 for a bit of room?), and 2. For the adult travelling with a child, as you have done yourself. Darche seems to offer a lot of choice but I notice a fair few of the "double" sized swags either have slightly restricted openings or have a large opening but are prone to sagging sides leading to the centre being the only practical sleeping position. Kings Big Daddy, Darche Dusk to Dawn fit into this latter category.
Just to confirm, that’s the disk to dawn style in 1100? Do you find with no centre loop that the sides are prone to sagging or indenting onto the occupant in windy or wet conditions?
BoyManytumai 27 I’ve had two darches and they aren’t the best for value for money. If coin isn’t an issue check out southern cross swags, quality is second to none but if you want a cheaper swag that still has really bloody good quality and design check out kulkyne freestanding swags. Great value option.
If you do get a bag for one of these, make sure it is big enough to get the swag into easily. We have a Kings Double swag & it is really difficult to get the swag into the bag, especially when I have Arthritis in my hands. Otherwise, it is a good swag though, I have bent one pole.
I have always wondered why are swags so popular in Australia with 4-wheeling community. Ofc the use is quite different, here pretty much all outdoor equipment is mainly used for hiking so they must be compact and light. But still, that damn swag takes more space rolled up than Finnish army 12-man tent... If your shelter has no aux heater in cold weather it's always cold when you aren't in your sleeping bag.
@@keithhart3689 I've got a hilleberg and I would not use for car camping over here, would get destroyed between fire embers and all the sharp rocks etc you camp on. But as for as tents you carry, nothing compares. nothing even comes close.
Tents definitely have their place. But, you can get a swag that will last through years of frequent travel and abuse for $200. The main advantage of a swag is the setup time, and the longevity. Swags can be set up in 2 - 3 minutes and will last through much more abuse than a tent. I have found tents to be too delicate for me.
Ah hah, thanks Paul, . . . however, that being the issue, I think I'd go to a saddlery and get a couple of leather stirrup straps, roll it the other way, and use them to strap it, . . . . . less stress me thinks, . . . and possibly a tighter roll !!. Cheers.
I think u should do a review or comparison review with the kings big daddy delux as its cheap and big and heard good things and also a review of the darche nebula 1550 as it is at the top end of the market price and looks good

Good review Ronny (loved how the kids were involved) BUT - you didn't say anything about wet weather performance. Tub floor looks good, but does it stay dry? Any condensation problems?
I'm still trying to figure out if I would even like a swab. I mean.. My 4 persoin tent, a damn deep cycle boat battery, air pump, and my air mattress along with a 6lbs sleeping bag takes up about the same space as that thing lol. Plus my tent is only 2 poles
When does a swag become a tent? anything that big and with 5 poles is a tent not a swag but everyone like the thought of sleeping in a swag so they call it a swag.
Yep, a real swag is a folded piece of canvas and blanket. And yep people just like saying ‘swag’ when they sleep in a one man canvas tent. So if I roll my bedding up in my 2 minute, 3kg dome tent I can call it a swag.

I'm after a bit of advice here (Ronny or anyone else reading would be much appreciated)I've done quite an extensive search for my next sleeping arrangement upgrade (currently in a standard ground tent - Australia). I want something for 2 adults that is relatively quick and easy to set up but not too expensive (realistic compromise). Does anyone use something along these lines? By the look of it, the ARB double swag in the vid doesn't satisfy those requirements (too small for 2 as Ronny mentioned). Thanks in advance!

The kids asking questions about how to roll up the tent was probably the best way to sell how truly annoying it actually is to roll up and I can't tell if it was an accident or planned genius.
I have a single and a double ARB swag.. I love the single but the double is just too much hassle! Single is the go and heaps of room for 1. Built to last and has the best flyscreen on the market.
For me I feel if your going to review something you need to have bought it with your own hard earned cash, only then are your going to know if the item is really worth it.
You’re right here in the United States we don’t understand why you use such a heavy tent I do plenty of camping my tent Half the weight half the cost half the size why don’t you try a lighter sleep system
I have only spent a few nights in a swag compared to weeks in a tent. Tent folds to nothing but it holds nothing. Swag folds big no one wants to join you and it houses all the sleeping gear.
5 poles, damn! My generic brand swag has three and then two tie down ropes which are damn fiddly to set up. I'm playing around with a stretcher tent for the time being; so much quicker and easier to set up hey. The extra space of a double swag is a big pro though. . .
I found the Darche Nebula a better option. Similar price. Little bigger. Very reputable swag building brand. Great windows. Arb selling swags is just cashing in on a super popular market
I agree with Ronny on this. If you are travelling every day, with no rest days a roof top tent is fine but, if you want to set camp up then go exploring, the rtt is a pain because you either have to pack it up before going anywhere or go in someone else's vehicle.
@Keith: But, in the context of RTT vs Swag that doesn't apply as much. You'll often setup a swag under an awning which means the awning needs to go down. Not any less hassle than closing an Alu-Cab like Wayne has. Leaving a swag sitting out would be dependent on group vs lone travel i.e. a collection of swags/tents and camp gear vs a lone item and would also depend on the area and popularity.
I thought about the alucab RTT as I have there canopy on my ute. Main thing for me was I often want to set my sleeping area in a spot my vehicle won’t fit or I want my vehicle in another spot for whatever reason like how we have the camp set up. Sometimes I (or we if we have a group) leave the swag and chairs and stuff set up and take the vehicle to go explore or fish or whatever. Also I guess they just don’t “do it” for me. Just don’t want one, no real reason, just didn’t like it when I tried it🤷🏼♂️
realistically a 4 man tent is designed 2-3 men with kits stored inside 2 man tents designed 1.5 men or 2 kids.. the swag ir likely deg\signed to be rolled to be rolled from small to large end or may be a design flaw in manufacture damn @$700 price point that should be 7 foot long and open flap to the outside I wonder whether this was designed to have 1 or more tents connected together in a modular setup...
Why don't you use a real tent that has survived the North Pole, the South Pole, K2, Everest, and everywhere in between and cost less a Hilleberg tent best in world!!!!

Couldn’t agree more with the 5 poles, hating setting it up but in saying that it was a awesome tent, fitted me, the missus and my ridgeback inside

I've had it in the desert when it was 103 F at 1 am and with the huge side windows open and a fan clipped above my head, it wasn't too bad. I've been in the cold as well and it is a lot of air to warm up, but with a good sleeping bag, I was comfortable. I do have to say that compared to a nylon tent, this thing is AWESOME!! It doesn't let as much light in as nylon so I'm able to sleep in for a little while anyway. It is huge when rolled up, but I find that it fits in the back of my Jeep perfectly with half the back seat folded down. I've spent many a night in a nylon tent and I'd have to say that I wouldn't trade this swag for anything! Well, maybe for a Conqueror trailer, but that's for another discussion. LOL!!

Ok, American bloke here, yes, that’s way too big! I went to Alaska with a backpack, 8’x8’ tent, sleeping bag, nice Thermorest pad, stove, cooking gear, clothes, wash up gear, and fishing tackle all a lot smaller than that thing! I was very comfortable for two weeks of rough camping. Plus I could almost stand up in me tent! I don’t understand this swag thing.
I can help as i've lived in the States and Aus and grew up with both swags and tents. I sleep WAAAAAAAAY better in swags. The canvas does incredible things for your wellbeing. They're cozy like you're in bed at home. However i despise huge swags and would NEVER buy this beast. What you described is a hiking setup, not a 4x4 setup. My swag only needs one pole so is ready to go within 1 min. When you spend a lot of time in the bush (as in weeks/months moving daily) this is HUGE for your morale. If i was in one spot for a long time i'd want a tent purely for space. Both have a purpose. Also Aussie bush is FAR harsher on your gear than AK. Sticks, tree roots, rocks, dust trashes tents. Puffy jackets ain't got no business down here either. Sad but true. We don't do straight tree trunks and soft pine needles down here. We do pokie twisted devil branches designed to hurt you ;) God i love AK...
I have the kings big daddy deluxe, very comfortable with two adults but the size when it folds up is massive lol
You just need to leave the side zips open a couple of inches and it won't hold the air, my wife, myself and our dog fit quite comfy in our ARB Double Swag. Probably the best item I have from ARB, that and the twin onboard compressor. They only thing I don't like is how it fads in direct sun light. The poles are great, as it makes it free standing.
People can bag Adventure Kings all they want, but for (generally) under 200 bucks you can't go passed the Big Daddy Deluxe swag.
Post Script - 450GSM on ARB canvas, 400GSM on Adventure Kings. Cannot justify + 3 times the price.

I've got the skydome in a single and I'm already onto my third set of poles in one year. I have used it for about 3 months of that year which to me still doesn't seem good enough. Im not sure of its because on the single they have to be bent around more being narrower or not but the sleeve where the poles clip into each other keeps tearing. In saying that ARB have replaced them every time but to warranty will run out soon
I have the same problem on the double and just bought some fibreglass replacement poles
An interesting test. The mattress inside makes the tent big for transport. Only pick-up can carry it. I wonder why you do not use roof tents. Are there any special reasons? Greetings!
No-one mentions sleeping on ground or in air. Is there a better way to avoid critters? Some like the warmth and will try to snuggle up. I slept on the ground in Oz and didn't have any problems, but often wondered after seeing a snake outside my tent in Mexico.

Great video never thought of swags before, my old landrover has a full roofrack that is boarded with ply it also has a ladder fixed at the back, so a free standing sway with side entry can you see where I'm going ? yes roof swag, could be my perfect off the ground solution, has anyone done it ? got to be cheaper and easier than a roof tent.
I just have a traditional swag and i love it fastest thing to set up but if it gets rainy I have a tent that fits into the bag the swag came in

I have been considering getting a new swag to replace my 20+ year old Southern Cross (double swag). But from what I have seen, swag design seems to have got way too complex, which defeats the purpose of the original swag concept and its advantage over a tent.
I have one pole, it is set up in under a minute and I have an unobstructed view of the night sky.
Change is not always progress.
N Noddy have a look at Murchison river swags, traditional style handmade in canvas but a bit pricey but very good

I'd also be interested in this. Not necessarily a recommendation (which is bolder) but more "what is the least worst option you have used personally or know of within your group" for
1. Single traveller who'd potentially use a stretcher like the Darche 100 XL as a raised platform for the swag (900 or 1100 for a bit of room?), and
2. For the adult travelling with a child, as you have done yourself.
Darche seems to offer a lot of choice but I notice a fair few of the "double" sized swags either have slightly restricted openings or have a large opening but are prone to sagging sides leading to the centre being the only practical sleeping position. Kings Big Daddy, Darche Dusk to Dawn fit into this latter category.
pantoqwerty I have the darche 110 and put it on top of a kings stretcher. It's well worth it 👌👌👌
Just to confirm, that’s the disk to dawn style in 1100? Do you find with no centre loop that the sides are prone to sagging or indenting onto the occupant in windy or wet conditions?
BoyManytumai 27 I’ve had two darches and they aren’t the best for value for money. If coin isn’t an issue check out southern cross swags, quality is second to none but if you want a cheaper swag that still has really bloody good quality and design check out kulkyne freestanding swags. Great value option.

If you do get a bag for one of these, make sure it is big enough to get the swag into easily. We have a Kings Double swag & it is really difficult to get the swag into the bag, especially when I have Arthritis in my hands. Otherwise, it is a good swag though, I have bent one pole.
Interesting, my Big Daddy swag fits in the bag just fine - with room to spare. I think you may need to tighten up on your roll up 😉

Compared to tents, swags are very over priced. They may be convenient but I just can't see the value.

I have always wondered why are swags so popular in Australia with 4-wheeling community. Ofc the use is quite different, here pretty much all outdoor equipment is mainly used for hiking so they must be compact and light. But still, that damn swag takes more space rolled up than Finnish army 12-man tent... If your shelter has no aux heater in cold weather it's always cold when you aren't in your sleeping bag.
@@keithhart3689 I've got a hilleberg and I would not use for car camping over here, would get destroyed between fire embers and all the sharp rocks etc you camp on. But as for as tents you carry, nothing compares. nothing even comes close.
Tents definitely have their place. But, you can get a swag that will last through years of frequent travel and abuse for $200. The main advantage of a swag is the setup time, and the longevity. Swags can be set up in 2 - 3 minutes and will last through much more abuse than a tent. I have found tents to be too delicate for me.

I think u should do a review or comparison review with the kings big daddy delux as its cheap and big and heard good things and also a review of the darche nebula 1550 as it is at the top end of the market price and looks good

I'm still trying to figure out if I would even like a swab. I mean.. My 4 persoin tent, a damn deep cycle boat battery, air pump, and my air mattress along with a 6lbs sleeping bag takes up about the same space as that thing lol. Plus my tent is only 2 poles

Yep, a real swag is a folded piece of canvas and blanket. And yep people just like saying ‘swag’ when they sleep in a one man canvas tent.

I'm after a bit of advice here (Ronny or anyone else reading would be much appreciated)I've done quite an extensive search for my next sleeping arrangement upgrade (currently in a standard ground tent - Australia).
I want something for 2 adults that is relatively quick and easy to set up but not too expensive (realistic compromise). Does anyone use something along these lines? By the look of it, the ARB double swag in the vid doesn't satisfy those requirements (too small for 2 as Ronny mentioned).

I have a single and a double ARB swag.. I love the single but the double is just too much hassle! Single is the go and heaps of room for 1. Built to last and has the best flyscreen on the market.

For me I feel if your going to review something you need to have bought it with your own hard earned cash, only then are your going to know if the item is really worth it.

I have only spent a few nights in a swag compared to weeks in a tent.
Tent folds to nothing but it holds nothing. Swag folds big no one wants to join you and it houses all the sleeping gear.
Can you do a more traditional swag like a Murchison river swag next

5 poles, damn! My generic brand swag has three and then two tie down ropes which are damn fiddly to set up. I'm playing around with a stretcher tent for the time being; so much quicker and easier to set up hey. The extra space of a double swag is a big pro though. . .
I found the Darche Nebula a better option. Similar price. Little bigger. Very reputable swag building brand. Great windows. Arb selling swags is just cashing in on a super popular market

I like RTTs but not on a vehicle. On a trailer, yes
I agree with Ronny on this. If you are travelling every day, with no rest days a roof top tent is fine but, if you want to set camp up then go exploring, the rtt is a pain because you either have to pack it up before going anywhere or go in someone else's vehicle.

@Keith: But, in the context of RTT vs Swag that doesn't apply as much. You'll often setup a swag under an awning which means the awning needs to go down. Not any less hassle than closing an Alu-Cab like Wayne has. Leaving a swag sitting out would be dependent on group vs lone travel i.e. a collection of swags/tents and camp gear vs a lone item and would also depend on the area and popularity.
I thought about the alucab RTT as I have there canopy on my ute. Main thing for me was I often want to set my sleeping area in a spot my vehicle won’t fit or I want my vehicle in another spot for whatever reason like how we have the camp set up. Sometimes I (or we if we have a group) leave the swag and chairs and stuff set up and take the vehicle to go explore or fish or whatever. Also I guess they just don’t “do it” for me. Just don’t want one, no real reason, just didn’t like it when I tried it🤷🏼♂️
realistically a 4 man tent is designed 2-3 men with kits stored inside
2 man tents designed 1.5 men or 2 kids..

A bivvy is really just a roof. A sawg is your whole sleeping setup in one.
Why don't you use a real tent that has survived the North Pole, the South Pole, K2, Everest, and everywhere in between and cost less a Hilleberg tent best in world!!!!

Comfort... You would still have to take a mattress. If your 4 wheeling a large swag ain't such an issue. I'm all about the RTT personally.
