That's a very efficient use of space! 4 cpu's. Lot's of rear I/O expansion, 4 power supply's, and a front that can be loaded down with hard drives. you don't typically see that here, you ether have lot's of I/O or lots of hard drive space.
Hi Travis Piper Thank You very much! I would much rather have show you the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR850 Server,,,, same server just Lenovo. Thank you for watching! :-)
Take a quick look on ebay for Servers with the first generation E5 Servers: Sandy Bridge E5. I bought a refurb DELL whih a 6 Core Sandy Bridge E5 v1 last summer. Still had to pay a 500€ excl. vat incl. shipping from Hungary. A device speced with a single 8 Core E5 would have come at least 200€ more expensive...
Thank you Morten for this exceptional Video, that I really enjoyed. I wouldn't have come across such a beefy modern machine otherwise. Thank you again.
Hi Scott Downey Yes It's cool to be able to fit the same amount or more performances on ½ the space! glad you liked the video :-) Thank you for watching! :-)
HP likes to use riser boards for add on CPU's, I have a Z620 workstation that has a riser as well for the 2nd CPU and it has a similar plug to connect it to the main board.
I love HP finally condensed the 580 series into 2U. They took a book out of there c7k series for those PCIe connections to upper PROCs. But I'm curious, you said those HBAs are 16Gb/s? So you are not using SAS, but FC? And I don't recall if you covered it, or can discuss. But what is your storage backend (SAN)? Our organization has looked at quite a few options, but when millisecond response times are a concern, we have troubles finding any sort of storage solution that can provide large scale centralized storage.
Are these CPUs exposed to Meltdown/Spectre bug? Also, have you considered hyper-converged setup (with VSAN for example)? It would save you some rack space.

The DL560 already made its appearance in Gen8 (2012), so it's not really new.. They did discontinue the DL980 (the 8 socket model) after generation 7.

Think the bigger issue is the performance loss that the fix does affects VM, database and website performance
can the sever work normally without that top tray of processes or does it through up errors?
I think it can run with just the button,, but am not sure.
Hi, This kind of heatsinks are not new, they were already used in DL360 G9 with High Efficiency Heatsink. Br

what a beautiful machine.
Yep,, pretty cool!
Why is your ESD band attached the the server? The server isn't touching anything that's grounded... or am I missing something?
John Doe the server was sitting on an ESD mat. He just needs to make his body have the same potential as the server.

scary all those heat in the relative small case ... fans are maybe 7000 rpm jets?
Hi highflow highflow

the fans are just enough for the whole system. they could spin as high as 8kRPM if needed
What the heck is the work load for them. That's some crazy power

No - 4 processors, Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6254 CPU (3.1 GHz / 18-core)
144-cores with hyper threading.
I was looking for the gold bars bolted to the inside lol, expensive and will quickly become out of date, if they follow normal computer rules.
What? the gold bars or quickly becoming "old hat". lol.
Well I don't know, but 36 cores / 72 threads and 1,5 TB of RAM with option of upgrading to 3TB sounds like you'll be fine for a while...
