  • Why I Only Use Flaxseed Oil for Seasoning Cast Iron
Flaxseed oil creates a incredibly durable, smooth and non-stick seasoning on cast iron cookware. Unlike other oils, the high alpha-linolenic acid content in flaxseed oil allows it to polymerize and chemically bond to the iron when heated, forming a tough seasoned surface.
This seasoning method produces a superior black patina that is resistant to flaking or stripping off, even in the dishwasher. While more labor-intensive, requiring 5-6 coats baked on, the results are unmatched.
I go through the effort of using pure, unrefined flaxseed oil because it yields the most robust, long-lasting non-stick seasoning possible on my cast iron pans and skillets. The extra work is worth it for premium performance.
