    Crystal Huang consistently stands out without even trying. She looks so confident with these combinations and at ease with this experience. You can tell she's loving every minute!
    Truly enjoyed Monique's coaching. So glad you featured the coaching for Melanie McIntire, she's one of my favorite dancers!

    My favorite Esmeralda is 301. She dances with joy and personality. Showy and full of character. Loved her pirouettes. I love how she uses the tambourine: the sound is assertive (very clear to hear!) and contributes to the character. I was enraptured every moment. Thank you, 301, for your brilliance.

    I think the candidate 304, while an excellent turner, I feel like the version has been too far altered from the standard version of Esmeralda. That really is on her coach for allowing that. For one, why not repeat the echappe sequence 3 times as normal, swapping it for something different on the second one makes it look so busy. Then the sequence after with the attitude back should travel quite far to stage left. Changing the leg and the directions again, makes it visually busy. Further, with her alteration she isn't moving much and the variation is much less dynamic than it could be. It's interesting to see how much more dynamic personality 301 showed with their upper body in the same variation. She has excellent technique, but it's clear from the corrections given, her upper body and musicality are not flowing with the music. I wonder if on stage 304 will bring more of the "Esmeralda energy" on stage because right now her temperament seems more suited to something softer.
    302 has a beautiful poise and lightness to her arms. Very elegant and warm. Out of them all, I feel like she gave the most mature performance of the group. Similarly, 303 seemed more mature and giving a performance. Her build and perkiness fit really well with the variation chosen and overall she is very pleasant to watch. Out of them all, I think 302 had the strongest sense of musicality and understanding of the variation. Of course all of them are lovely and are at such a high level, but as always in competitions certain dancers stand out over others.

      I’ve said something similar
      Like yes
      We know Melanie is a viral internet star, she’s got a lot of athleticism and technique but she doesn’t MOVE…there’s a stiffness, a lack of musicality because her school is all about advertising and BIG moves.
      It’s a blessing and curse. She is popular here because of social media…but she’s not the best dancer. She’s a fantastically talented, driven, focused and disciplined dancer but she’s been pigeonholed into turning and turning and for that she’s had to sacrifice a bit of artistry.
      She just doesn’t have the musicality that we see in the other top dancers.
      I say this while also really admiring her.
      I wish her teachers emphasized her personal evolution as an artist a bit more.
      If you see her online all we see are turns. Turns and turns and yes we get it but if ballet were just pirouettes and fouettés this would be over so quickly.
      On one hand more people are watching ballet every year because of social media which is great, but there a bit of dilution happening because people aren’t really versed in the discipline.
      Louder bigger faster harder isn’t what makes this beautiful, it can make it stunning athletically but the artistic beauty comes from long lines, beautiful extensions, small moments and fine tuning. I feel like she’s just rushing to get through her variations.
      It’s a shame
      She’s got amazing stamina, balance, strength, technique and drive but her training really did her dirty.
      I was wondering for at least a year what her dancing was actually like.
      I’ve only seen her do one or two short variations, Esmeralda being one of them during her time at MBA.
      I had a sneaking suspicion musicality was lacking, I had hoped I was wrong but during the adagio on day one I thought oh dear, she’s too fast, she doesn’t fully extend and she never holds, she’s just hitting marks and plowing through and frankly that is NOT fun to watch.
      I can watch her turn for days but I really hope she gets offered education elsewhere at the prix do she can build upon her excellent technique and become an artist as well as athlete.

      Can I be honest? I can’t stand the Esmeralda variation. It’s been done to death. Enough of hitting that damn tambourine with the foot over and over again. Can we please find something else??

    • @kakikatkakikat
      @kakikatkakikat 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I think her moving to another school to that emphasizes artistry would really benefit her. She has an excellent foundation and is clearly a hard worker. I have no doubt that with a different set of instructors, she will absolutely blossom. No disrespect to her teachers. They clearly know how to produce strong dancers, I just think their students could use coaching of the artistic side of ballet. In performance, I don't care if you did 6 pirouettes, I care how you carried the rest of the ballet and how you made me feel. @@KateCarew

      @anneharrison1849 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My understanding is that according to the rules, they must do a version that is done by a company, or maybe it’s just highly recommended. There are times where she needs to rein in the turning and just do a double so she stays on the music.

      @juchlu3081 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KateCarew I think your long list of criticism is a bit harsh. But it's your opinion so I honor it. I'm watching Melanie for a while now and saw her dancing beautifully. Of course a lot of turning because that's what the people want to see. So Eva makes "turning videos" for her viewers. But when Eva is not filming there is much time to dance. But it is hard to compare Crystal and Melanie because of the height difference. Their bodies just work differently. I know that Melanie is willing and able to learn. It will be interesting to watch her development during the days in Lausanne.

      @sleuththewild 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I can't imagine Loudière thought 304 was Russian, since there are no Russians in the competition, ballet trained in Russia looks very different IME (with much fluidity in arms, legs, and torso) and she looks VERY American.

    • @KateCarew
      @KateCarew 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      There are so many amazing dancers here who don’t do 20 pirouettes on social media…Melanie is fantastic, I wish her the best, but I also hope people who are here because they just “discovered” ballet on the internet recognize the all around talent, how each and every dancer here deserves to be here and it’s not like the Olympics as much as an amazing educational/career opportunity.
      The idea isn’t to beat out the others as much as it is to learn and advance awareness of ballet, and to create a sustainably supportive framework for young dancers to launch into the professional realm.

      @@KateCarew , I think you bring up a good point about the hard work and dedication of every girl included. I didn't write my comment to invalidate anyone else. You are right I only know of Melanie because of social media and I am not knowledgeable about ballet. I think you are adressing something that happens often on social media of people putting down others. As a casual fan though I dont agree that my comment brings any negativity to anyone. Lovely day

Me gusta verlos tan seguros y confiados :) Que importante es trabajar esa confianza para llegar a una competencia tan importante con mucha seguridad en uno mismo para así poder realmente demostrar lo que es y vale cada uno :) Só nice to see confident dancers, it is só important to work in our confidence to get to such an important competencia with enough security to be able to show how much value has each one💪🏽🧠🩰
