- This one is from the days when I did not understand Techno yet.
Of course I was not there (I was way to young) but I wanted to share this on YT because it's awesome and I could not find it anywhere on YT.
Sound quality is a bit low, I suspect the recording is from a tape cassette (maybe mini disc?)
Nothing fancy this time just a picture of the man himself.
Enjoy, it's a Surgeon banging set like they're supposed to be!
Seems like there is more to this set, guess the tape was full ;)

For those who weren't around during this time, you've simply got NO idea how much fucking better it all was back then, techno was at it's purest, the crowds were at their least pretentious and the vibe was at it's most electric. Thank fucking God I surfed the wave of proper Techno.

You're so lucky! I was 12 at the time of this set, my thing then was hardcore/gabber. I think I know what you mean but there are still some nice gigs out there, with a good crowd that really comes to enjoy the music and party.

Weird to think one of the worlds greatest ever techno nights had a home in Morley. Classic set.
I love the idea that while a tiny place like Morley slept they had no idea that the best techno djs in the world were in town, and people were travelling miles to go there......and I was lucky enough to live ten minutes from it

The Orbit was simply the best club ever, I have been to clubs & raves all over the world & there is just NOTHING to compare to a Saturday night off your face at The Orbit mid 90's

Truly blessed the pinnacle in my eyes of clubbing, we had 1 of the best clubs and venues in the world at our doorstep . I had cousin's and enough friends to fill a boat in that club weekly it was our sanctuary without realizing what we had . We struck gold ,THE LINE UP OF TOP STATUS DJ,S music insane the atmosphere electric rock on Morley Bastards..... orbit48 🙏
Agree, made 100+ return trips of 110 miles to The Orbit from Liverpool during that time 95-99. Never been anywhere remotely as good before or since. The Orbit was truly a special place to be, absolutely loved it.

Yeah, I was there to. 20 years old. I had my 21st birthday in there. Was awesome, but I tell you what, I can’t listen to this in my older age! Some wild nights in there! Wow.
I wish I could blast back in a time machine and land on the dance floor at the Orbit. Quality!! Many a Saturday night spent getting my lugs blown off by cutting edge techno.

I WAS lucky enough to be there............. The Orbit Morley was truly a Legendary Club (yeah yeah, i've been to the Hacienda, Heaven, phuture, shoom, Sankeys, Cream, Shelleys, Milwaukees, Busbees etc etc). It was that good we drove nearly 200 miles every Saturday night it was on! Seen Surgeon, Sven, CJ, Jeff, The Baron, Claude Young, The Advent, James Ruskin, Luke, etc etc all live, all in a club with only 800 Techno knowledgeables smashing it and hangin off the balcony.
Awesome, I've seen many of my Techno heroes too. One of the coolest was a 5 hour set of Chris Liebing and Speedy J for about 500 people (I guess).
I was there on this night too. Was superb! Only the 3rd time i'd been as well if memory serves.

Doing that with vinyl is so much harder than software too. Thats why I argue he's better than Jeff Mills. His mixes are just so much smoother. It's like he studied Jeff Mills and then did it better.

The Orbit was amazing. Started early finished early. The free bus from Leeds Uni. The massive queue for the cloakroom. The film projector visuals. The big balcony. The atmosphere. Room two. Still one of the best club nights I’ve been to.
Why does no one ever mention the sound system that's the only thing my uncle is clear as day about best sound system he's ever heard in a nightclub and hasn't witnessed a sound system to come close since must of been how it was soundproofed or sumat I've heard It was mental wish I was old enough to live it I love techno

Surgeon is a great artist etc, but I honestly can't every say I've enjoyed his DJ/live sets nearly as much as the ones I saw in the 90s

Im just sat here, headphones on, bobbing to and fro, remembering the good old days at orbit. What a place. I went from late 1993 to 1998 - the glory days. Seen em all. Banging techno at its best. Greatest club ever IMO. Addidas t-shirt, shaved head, pummelling the air with my fists, sweaty as fuck. and weighing 130lbs. :)

I used to go in 1994/95 and travel from liverpool then travel back.Nowhere rocked hardcore like the Orbit saw Moby,Sven Vath,Justin Roberstson..The place f..king ruled

The first time he played the orbit I remember me and my mates concluding he was the best techno DJ we’d ever heard. Did what Jeff Mills did admittedly but even better. I remember believing that I actually heard him spin a track in (rather than out) and that it actually started playing in time with the track that was already playing.... May have been my state of mind and level of excitement at the tracks he was playing but I’d like to believe it was true...

Surgeon is awesome repping North of England . Saw him at Orbit 5 times at least . But he did copy Jeff Mills style hes playing a lot of the purposemaker tunes in thus mix. If I saw Surgeons name on an orbit flyer we always made a point I'd going. Jeff Mills best tho

It was such a crazy place & lucky you being local, we made 100+ return trips of 110 miles to The Orbit from Liverpool 95-99. Never been anywhere remotely as good before or since, it was truly a special place to be, absolutely loved every minute of it.

The Afterdark Club in Morley, Leeds.. known as The Orbit (orbit48) was the best club i ever went to - crowd were ace, atmosphere was electric, never saw any trouble there and the music was always awesome - how this scene did not carry on i dont know.. commercial crap killed it off.. no-one cared what they looked like unlike todays plastic clubs.. I've never felt an atmosphere like it to this day..

I must say the hard techno nights weren't a patch on the old hard trance nights in around 93/94. especially the sven nights.
as for the ridiculous argument beneath my comment. not every band in 1970 was led zeppelin, and not every band in 2015 is one direction. people remember their youth with nostalgia and sentiment so obviously 'their time' was better than anyone else's. no different from me preferring the hard trance orbit to the techno orbit. I've never seen anything like the sven 6 hour set in 93 (I think), I still suffer from the mental consequences of that night over 20 years ago.

Went to Jail in 2000, out in 2014. Armed robbery is the same. Techno has changed... This was and still is a great set.

The little image to the left was/is me. No murder "just" armed robbery; "All right this is is a robbery everybody on the fucken floor. You, (the manager) tell them to open the day safes; I want you and the 2 code holders in the vault I'm going to fucking count to 4 then kill one of your tellers. ONE, TWO..." never got to four. Always got the day safes only twice got the vault. My original sentence was 38 years. Because I was not caught in the act on I was charged with an imitation firearm charge. I actually only received 5 years for the armed robbery (done while under surveillance) that I got the pictures (all evidence was given to me) from the trials. Google my name it tells a shitty version of the court tales. IN the end between 1991 and April 200i I robbed 84 banks, some alone most with a crew; I was convicted of 4.
Hope your stash was still there when you got out.Over here you have to kill somebody in cold blood and you might get 18 years, behave well in prison and act sane and you're out in 12.

I had my first decent pill at the orbit in Morley in 2000 and I can remember that Steve bicknell was playing and it was a great night out and the people were sound!, it’s just a shame they don’t make any pills that were the same quality as the Mitsubishi and other decent ecstasy pills that they used to have in stock all the time?, I used to like bowlers but I always preferred harder techno like cox, beltram, sven vath and all the other people who were playing the harder tracks before the drugs and music got a bit shit!. Or maybe I just got older but I’m only 35 now so I think that I just managed to catch the last few years of the quality years of proper quality clubbing
know the feels dude! it all seemed to change from about 98 onwards, the music seemed to change, the culture, simple simon cowell etc. i couldnt understand really what made things seem to get worse but still hope for some sort of resurgence. if you will it, it is no dream! lol

M8 you have no idea the trouble I have finding good fitting (BOOT FIT) jeans for a 90' living now 43 almost 44yrs young that hadn't kept upto date shopping online I have to ask mates find me jeans online and order for me. All these skinny fit and skinny stretch just ain't what I would feel right or look right in. Just bring back 90' for everything we all be happy then 😎
