Good stuff. That's how we run the Portland Reavers. Dispersing our strengths.

Finally got the chance to watch this. I agree with you. a good example is NFL Coaches that were not even close to making the league but they have a big brain for the sport. Being a smaller fighter there is certain things that don't always work for me and there is certain things i can do that most larger fighters cant do. But i can coach up our big guys because i know what they should be doing and how they are supposed to do certain things even though those things may not be my strong suit. As far as captaining, i have been our teams captain since it began, we were all starting out at the same time and i was voted into that roll. I put in extra time beyond just things at practice. what helps is having built a strong culture within the team to where when people come in they see what is expected.

Thanks for the watch and response. There is a reason your team is growing and staying so successful. Right mindset and right humble approach to how you approach coaching

Right now my coach has said multiple times that he does not know the slightest thing about coaching but he tries and in my opinion he is doing a very good job. Right now he is training us to be good coaches too so when we expand we are prepared. I am not the most skilled fighter, but I know the how of the techniques but not the best.

Additionally, I’m trying to run the diplomatic and arrangement part of the the team. Reaching out to people, running the social media scouting for events. I love it!

That's totally fair too. Knowing what you don't know is the first step to getting better at anything. That's awesome that your team is working together to split roles and develop skills as a group

A great example of a great and well loved historical leader who couldn't fight much at all was Ivar the Boneless. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivar_the_Boneless

I'm coach/field captain of my team and I am very far from the best fighter. I think I'm competent, but I'm also the smallest dude on the team, and my life's mileage is beginning to catch up to me. Most of my guys exceed my performance on the field in one or two years of training which can be a little frustrating sometimes since I'm a competitive person, but it also means my training program is working. I'm not gonna stop trying to be the best though.

Maybe try a shakeup in style that plays into your strengths? You see it in martial arts all the time, older fighters change their style and are able to compete into their 40's at a professional level. Take Andrei Arlovski for example, or even Tyson Fury. Sure Fury isn't that old, but as he's slowed down the emphasis has gone from footwork and movement to utilise his size and power, and it allows him to still be the best in the world.

It's part of the mindset shift I think all competitors go through. Everyone eventually loses a step and is not longer at the top of their game. However you can add so much value with your experience and skills that younger fighters just do not have.

Thank you. That's a hell of a compliment. I do think coaching in general is a skill set you can learn. The material you coach changes depending on sports or job but the mechanics of delivering a message, motivating, finding and coaching to specific weaknesses and strengths are skills that can be learned.

I know you have been making some reviews, but could you make a video on general smiths and different shops. Medieval extreme seems decent and my gamberson from there is amazing. Just a video on your experiences and tips.

I consider doing this I just don't know if I'm an expert enough on the The different companies to have an informed opinion. I really only personally experienced the equipment that I've bought which I've liked but not enough to fully recommend specific companies on a large scale basis
