    If you like revenge stories, you HAVE TO READ Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter. First book of his Fires of Vengeance Series. It is NON-STOP full on hate-fuelled revenge. Second book is incredible as well. You cannot put the books down.

    Im about 2/3 through Hunger now and I agree the slower pace helps with fleshing everything else out. It reminds me of Fires of Vengeance, where slowing down the insane pace of the first entry really helped me get attached to everything besides the action.
    Previously i wouldn’t say im a fan of the author. I didn’t like Faithful and the Fallen at all because the characters were basic and the world building was bad.
    But this new series is pretty solid. The characters continue to grow on me and the clear Norse influence is just awesome. Hopefully the climax of this one will impress!

    I listened to the first in this series based on a few Tik Toks I saw which included one of yours. I watched this full video today and in general I do agree with pretty much everything you said except the final rating. I liked the beginning, thought there was a bit of a drag in the middle, and then finished pretty strong. The drag I mention isn't because there is any lack of action, but because I had a pretty good idea where things were going. The end was a perfect setup for a sequel. I'd give it a 6.2. Overall an above average story, but I just felt bored through a lot of it. Also I cook while I listen to these books, and the pronunciation of those words is nuts and not easy to follow when cooking. Also I missed out on the map you mentioned.
    I'm switching to the way of kings now, but was wondering if either of you have read the Riyria Revelations. It's the fantasy trilogy I compare all other fantasy books to and has the best finale I've ever read. I'd recommend it if you haven't read it before.
    Thanks for the content too. I'm pretty much relying on you guys for all of my future book recommendations.

    Thanks for the reviews, guys! Much appreciated from a new booktuber. :)
    I have a couple of questions, I hope you can answer for me:
    1. Between this and Mr. Gwynne's previous trilogy - which should I read first?
    2. I'm sure there is violence (I'm no stranger to fantasy! :) ) but is there much (if any) violence against children?
    Thanks for any clarification. :)

    Just finished the two books. My favorites are in reverse lol, I enjoyed book one way more than book two. Book one drops you right in and you follow Orka killing things, my issue with book two is where John writing isn't as strong to me with development, though there was moments that made everything clicked, it felt dragged a bit.

    Hey guys, can I ask your opinion real quick ? 0:)
    So, I am French. And today I noticed while reading The shadow of the gods in english a strange rythm in my "flow of reading". I just began this book today, and I am a bit ... "uncomfortable" by the prose used by the author.
    But I don't know if it's due to my first language, french, wich is very descriptive as a language. Almost "overly poetic".
    You just need to compare the number of pages between an english book and the french translation. You'd be surprised to see that there are ~20% more words in french. (Don't you want to know what is told to the french that you don't know ? :p :p :p )
    So my question for you : have you noticed something while reading TSOG? What do you think of the author's way of writing ? I thought the rythm was a bit "chopped" while reading , but I don't so oftenly read fantasy in english. And as you can read, my sentences are way longer that the one's from John Gwyne.
    For exemple, the second part of this sentence (p26, chapter 3), I noticed wasn't writen in the same order that I would've in my french-programmed-mind : "The three wariors on the stairs took a step closer, hands moving to rest close to weapons."
    I'm just curious to know if it's the author's style that make me feel this way or if I just have to get used to it. ^^

    • @2ToRamble
      @2ToRamble  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question - passing this over to Rich since I havent read the book and he can give some thoughts on this - my guess is that it could be language barrier?

    • @2ToRamble
      @2ToRamble  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rich here. I do think modern fantasy writing commonly has a choppy style. So I don't think John Gwyne is unique to this style. I believe the reason for it, is to focus more on the action and dialogue making the reading fast and easy to read. I think Brandon Sanderson writes in a similar way. However if you are looking for more flowing prose I would check out Tad Williams, Christopher Rocchio, or Robin Hobb. For modern fantasy, you may need to get use to the style, especially with your French language barrier.

    • @charles-ap1354
      @charles-ap1354 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@2ToRamble Thanks for yours answers. After a few chapters, it's getting easier to get the rythm. The differences are quite interesting in fact when comparing french and english fantasy writing. I should try and look into why theses differences, overmore when it's a translation.
      Now, I may have to find out how's Sanderson prose in its original form. With the prologue out, and no date out for the french translation, i'm so eager to knooooooow ! =D
