Long Long Before Your Time

'Long Long Before Your Time' was my first original composition.
The inspiration came to me while sitting on a stone in a field at the back of Kennedy's Pub in Doocastle, where I was gigging on Easter Monday night in 1975. I remember, as I sat watching the doe-eyed cows grazing on the grass in the field, a feeling of deep melancholy came over me, and a rather sad and tragic story started to formulate itself in my head.
The song is in the style of the old melodramatic songs that were popular on the stages of the Victorian music halls, and I am proud to say people still request it after all these years.
