- Here's a review of the Smith & Wesson SW1911SC bobtailed 1911. I do some shooting, discuss the features of the gun, what my experience with it has been, and what I think of it overall.

This was my dream gun since forever and I finally got one. It’s glorious.
You're going to like this gun SO much,,,,your others will get dusty. Lol. I bought the full size TA about 6-7 yrs ago. Made it my EDC. I work in a auto repair shop and was a little concerned about the environment and possible damage to the finish. Nada,,in all these years, not so much as a scuff mark, and I have bumped it a few times. Goes to the range every time and performs flawlessly. I have never regretted the money paid out for it. Exceptional.
worth?
@@bigpasjust got one. Absolutely love it
I love this gun a lot! Was my first gun purchase and have never been sorry. It looks good, feels good, and shoots good! Just picked up a Sig Sauer P238 for concealed carry tonight and I love it as much as my S&W 1911. These are good guns folks. I highly recommend them!
I was waiting for part two. Good to hear about S&W's customer service experience also.
Thanks for the work you put into your channel. I enjoy the straight to the point approach!
Thank you.
Glad to see an external 1911 extractor that works. My old Kimber had one and it choked all the time. They replaced the slide for me and it's been fine since. Nice pistol MGG.
Kimbers-----not my thing.
Thank you.
This video confirms my earlier suspicion that this will be my next gun purchase. Though I'm going to go w the 2 tone version
Nice.
Condition Orange I like that one too bro. Good choice, I think it will look nice between my dw specialist in satin and the dw eco in black
If your thinking about buying this as your first 1911 I'll caution you that rounded butt might make it a little tougher to find after market grips. I'm also a little worried about the finnish. It looks like the hammer and safety scratched it a little which is weird.....
My next purchase! Thanks for the review!
Thx for the vid! Would you say the recoil was snappier or more pronounced given that it has a Scandium (light weight) frame? Thinking of grabbing one but I don’t want Any more recoil than I need to have with 45.
Just purchased the stainless slide version. 150 rounds without issue. As traditionalist, I see why some object to the modifications of the original 1911 design, however, this is a beautiful carry 1911. Progress is a good thing.
golferwithguns Nice.
I've never come across any of your videos before researching this particular gun. I really like the video! You pointed out some things I had no considered and highlighted some of the most important. I'll be adding your page to my Facebook. Thanks for the review!
MrJason614 Thanks. Welcome to the channel
Great review, thanks. That's my Christmas present this year.
+Ray “rayray” Sexauer Awesome
Great review... I think the two-tone version of this gun is the best looking production gun on the market! May have to look into this...
I debated which to get but I'm a melonite fan so I went all black.
Great review; your reviews are short, to the point, just excellent. You don't take a drink in the middle of a review (editing is key) for example. Anyway, nice gun, on my list!
Thank you.
You review makes it tempting to buy one.
I get that a lot :D
I have the same gun but in two tone and love it.
Nice.
The weight difference between the full-size all-steel 1911's and this model is noticeable! I've always been a fan of the 1911 (own several) but just took this new purchase to the range yesterday and ~120 rounds equal mix of 35yr-old 200gr SWC, to standard 230gr ball , to 230gr +P Ranger T-series and not a hiccup. I've never shot custom 1911s...but for $1200-1500 this'd be my pick!
Still flawless?
@@Hialeah1925 Yeah, but I've only put an additional hundred rounds through it since then. Definitely a snappy pistol with the regular T-series and more so with the +P's. I should take it out more! Too many others in the safe and I doubt I've been out to the range twice in two years :-/
@@PacificAirwave144 thanks! What can you tell me about the finish? I’m debating between the full size steel E or the sc in the stainless two tone or the all black.. does it hold up? It’ll be a gift to myself for my 45th.
@@Hialeah1925 I've got the two-tone stainless or matte finished upper, glossy-blued lower. Finish is perfect....no machining marks anywhere, all edges beautiful rounded, and a perfect finish--piece of art! A couple other S&W' (including a full-sized all steel E-series), a Ruger SR1911, a Colt Gold Cup. I frigging love the compactness and light weight of the SC but do love the full-sized E-series as its recoil is a bit more manageable--not a big difference but its noticeable. The SC is my Love of the bunch and will be the last one I part with. Budget, beauty, practicality are factors for you but the SC is small, light. The SR1911 is a great value, very accurate, very reliable and if it gets a ding, bummer...The S&W SC is artwork!
@@PacificAirwave144 Thank you so much for your comprehensive and informative response. This is a great help. Much appreciated.
Nice fast paced and detailed review. Filming a look down the sights would have helped me with my purchase decision. Great video though.
+shredman59 Thanks
Excellent review!...Thanks
I really like the scandium framed smiths. You neglected to mention hos attractive this firearm is. Outstanding!
Good call. It's a sexy beast
Glad to see smith and wesson took care of it...
Ditto
Another fine review, I have not handled a S&W 1911. Most all of my experience is Colt and S/A. Since I don't shoot as much, I have lost that comfortable edge with a cocked and locked gun.
Thank you.
I bought one 4 years ago and sold it. I missed it so much I had to buy a new one again.
Old video but I have to comment just to say that I like the basic overall theme.
I'd like to own one.
Great vid Guns, I have an off topic question and any input would be appreciated. Why does 9mm travel faster and hit harder than 38spl? I am under the impression that the 38 has more powder behind it but is still weaker. Does it have anything to do with the 38 being shot out of a revolver while the 9mm is usually shot from a closed chamber? How would they stack up if they were both shot out of closed chambers? And what is their performance when being shot out of rifles? Thanks for all the awesome vids
One big reason is cylinder gap; a lot of energy is lost there.
I'm not sure on the rifle question; it'd be interesting.
Another top notch review, nice Smith 1911.
Thank you.
Love mine.....
On the very short list for a 45 for my 45th this year. I REALLY want a Wilson, I can afford it, I'm just not sure if I can justify the 3X cost over this Smith. Thanks for doing the review on this one.
Wilson CQB Tac is on my list too---I feel your pain.
Good looking gun.
Agreed.
Sweet piece. I just picked up an SR1911 . Shoots great and fit finish is awesome. How would it compare to your S&W?
I had a SR1911. The big difference for me was reliability. I put right at 800 rounds through it and had 3 malfunctions.
I’m late to the party. How would you compare this to a Dan Wesson in terms of quality/durability/reliability. Would you say the external extractor would require less maintenance and adjustments than the typical internal extractor?
Great video "As Always"
Do you still have the pistol? Any updates?
The pistol is in my top 5 possible buys later this year.
I do. No.
The best EDC gun available
Got hitched to this fine piece a couple years ago..dont pick this gun up if you don't want to buy, IT GRIPS YOUR HAND ,NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND, IT FORCED ME TO PROPOSE, I WAS HELPLESS,,LOOK OUT
Nice review looks like an interesting 1911 option
Thanks.
I'm not a fan of 1911's. I prefer big bore revolvers. But if I were to get a 1911 I'm pretty sure it would be a Smith. That's a nice looking piece!
It is a looker.
Seems like a great option but I'm saving to get a wilson combat hunter 10mm
Nice.
I just prefer a basic 1911, but not totally basic, lol!
The Remington R1 has a "basic" model with higher 3 dot sights. I like that or rather "older eyes" appreciate it! Front cocking serations are great for some folks and give them the option. However, please not on a 1911?
Nice review as usual. I've seen the gun, I've seen the belt. What holster do you carry it in and do you have a video for it?
Jason G. I have a bunch of 1911 holsters so I can't really say one.
id give up my sig 1911 for these. absolutely beautiful
Thanks.
Mrgunsngear Channel lol i just offered my sig scorpion tb up for one of these, hope to have some good news soon.
I really like the Sig 1911 Nightmare. I have this same E Series 1911 but would also like a Nightmare.
Nice vid! Thanks for the review! Are the grips interchangeable?
With other bobtail grips, yes.
NICE. NICE. NICE.
Awww. That baby face.
have the same gun. keep an eye out for the plunger tube. mine came loose and i had to restake it.
Thanks for the heads up.

Mine just did also, I suspect MIM parts are the culprit. FedEx says back tomorrow, we'll see.
I just picked up mine today, I was wondering about changing out the grips to a different color because I'd rather have something other than the wood finish. Could you possibly point me in the right direction as to whereas I could find different grips for the E series?
VZ makes great stuff
Have you had the chance to shoot the Performance Center version of this 1911? It is definitely night and day with the trigger and quality! Good review
Shaun DuVall yes.
There's a dude offering one of these for two for two Glocks. (I have a ton of Glocks)
...
Cool review man
Alex9x19 decision time!
I love this gun. it is great to carry and a blast to shoot. while dry fire practicing I noticed that it would fire w/out pressing the grip safety. does yours do this? is it a defect or a design flaw?
Not as things should be. Did you contact S&W for repair? Results?
It pains me that my department wont let me carry any 1911 now, I really wanted to carry the Smith
I live in Illinois so the gun laws are really strict here. I wish S&W could possibly take the frame of this and put KWA airsoft 1911 Mark 2 guts into said frame. Nobody would be able to believe I could ever be so excited.
What is your opinion on frame durability, when it comes to steel vs aluminum, and do you think the scandium alloy will be more durable than pure aluminum?
More durable than pure aluminum---yes. More durable than properly heat treated steel---no. But, S&W has a lifetime warranty and would replace it should you ever have an issue.
I thinking about S&W 1911 E series or Springfield Operator Long Beach Variant. Which you prefer
Operator. More hand fitting as well.
What type of holster is that? Also, have you noticed that your holster scratches that frame (Scandium) more easily?
I don't remember which holster I had out there.
I do not notice more scratches.
Great review :)
Can you do a field strip clean & lube vid on this?
Which is better S&W 1911 E series or Springfield Operator Long Beach Variant
I'd take the Operator. Better QC in my opinion.
Got to ask... would shaving my head make me a better shot?
does anyone know if the sight cuts on this are the same as m&p guns? The sight cuts are apparently not standard 1911, and there are rumors that it is the same as m&p, but I've never heard anything conclusive.
+IMD918 I'm not sure.
IMD918 brochure said they are Novak Sight
They are Novak Sights, but it's a proprietary cut. Meaning many aftermarket sights won't fit.
YESSS LOVE IT!! THANK YOU!!!
You're quite welcome.
Is this gun a series 70 or is it a series 80. Thank You
Pretty sure this is a 70
Not sure I dig the fish scale look on the grips and slide.
fair enough
what kind of holster for that gun?
thanks!
+Juan Carlos not sure but if you post a screenshot on my facebook page I'll let you know
Looking to get my 1st 1911 but I do not want to pay 1k for it. With that said what are your thoughts on Rock Island Armory 1911's. I see a lot of great reviews on the gun’s reliability/dependability/fit & finish and function and wanted your input - thanks again.
They make good guns for the money but the fit/finish absolutely are not as good as 1k guns. I've sent 2 back for service over the years and have always been treated well by them.
thanks brother -
I've had a Rock Island 1911 FS model for about three years. After around 11,000 rounds, I can confirm that it is what it is. It took a couple of upgrades to get it to my liking, new sights, grips, barrel bushing, grip safety, and a trigger job. Not to mention a new barrel after I shot the factory barrel out. The trigger job took me about half an hour and now the trigger has a clean break. Reliability is just fine, any malfunctions I had could be attributed to me. It is what it is. I've had better 1911's, and I've seen worse. I would recommend a Tisas instead, due to the fact that the Rock Island has an extruded slide, which doesn't sit quite right with me.
Although I'm not a fan of Taurus, what do you think about a Taurus 1911?
ArmedCivilian556 Though I'm not a Taurus fan either, I believe the PT1911 is fine pistol for its price point. Probably a step up from the Rock Island in my book.
Can you say ,homerun
can't buy one. no ramped barrel since the frame is alloy. there's no bull barrel. man smith needs to get it right & come out with a 4" barrel. there's no sense getting a 4.25 when it's so close to 5"
+Will Yeah fair enough.
excellent point. Is there a .45 you recommend?
James Dale for carry you will want an alloy frame. Kimber, Springfield, Colt.
I love a round butt...wait what were we talking about again?
Don't know :D
Smith does not use a novak cut!!!
Yeah, I've seen the controversy on this but S&W says it is and Novak on their own website say it is as well although Novak says it's the S&W Novak cut (whatever that means).
my rock island has a ramped barrel. my mom thinks im cool.
+mrsquishyboots awesome
30+ second introductions are too long.
H.T.V. Blu Feel free to skip them.
Mrgunsngear Channel lol, thanks I do! Not hatin', just trying to point something out you may not have considered from the user's perspective.
~btw, love the channel (subscribed).
Yep.. I need one!!
What is the tiny hole in the barrel at 3:30? It's located where the ejection port meets the slide. Is it a loaded chamber indicator? Cause if so, that might make this gun California Compliant.
LCI
Mrgunsngear Channel SWEET! hopefully that can make these dumb gun control politicians make this pistol california compliant and for sale!
