Thanks Andy, for the thorough comparison. I have an unopened D2 sitting right next to me, right now, having ordered it by accident thinking it was a K2. After watching your video to research the D2, I feel A LOT better and will be happily keeping my accidental purchase 😀.
Just FYI the D2 DOES have resistance readout. You just use the scroll wheel while selected to a channel while in a charging cycle. It ONLY provides it during a full charge, not storage cycles, etc.
Hey @AndyRC try updating the firmware on the K2, on the latest firmware my fan isn't on all the time, just if I'm discharging or charging at a high current. So far the K2 has been excellent for me.
Threre's nothing you can really do to stop someone from plugging into the DC when plugged into the AC. You would need some decent sized relays to disconnect the inputs which would take up a lot of space...or you'd have to do it with mosfets? Either way what they did makes sense although it sucks that it leaves you with the 90 degree cable... But lets be serious...Who is using AC with a charger of this caliber? If you're buying this charger you've probably wised up to the $10 HP DPS server power supplies
Andy - keen to get this but put off by the fan. Is there chance the fan will be lower when powered by a 24v power supply ? Have you tried? Cheers mate Adam
if you have it connected day in and day out and you know that it is spinning then it will need and take power every single day. Even 1 W consumption make 9 kWh or 4$ here ... and in case of 2W just 8$. If you have an inventory of each consumer in each room then you are much more aware which devices boost the power bill that usually only arrives once. One shock for most people being unaware which devices push the bill more. At one point before we got a solar roof we checked everything that is plugged in a short 1 hour test or for a 1 week or 1 months tests to find out what a dryer consumes, the fridge, each TV ... and with 7 kWh in 7 days you get behind 1 kWh per day and you can dig in that the 65 inch TV might need 105 W + sky receiver 20 W + soundsystem 35W which equals 160 W ... and therefore 6 hours running time by average. Until we recogniced that the skybox was even warm while it should be out. It was still running at 10 W ... you might think is not much, but it is 10 times more than the spinning charger at the top. Why should it need 240 W if turned off as we thought. It was not turned off ... cause sky had put in a convenience mode to a void slow start up and that uses 1/4 of the daily power consumption. 1 kWh / day for TV then meant that 760 Wh where used while watching which mean at 150 W (10 W deducted as base consumption for sky receiver) 4,5 hours on time screen for TV, Media and PS4 use. Since we made that inventory and being more aware which devices uses a lot of energy or wastes (like unused USB charger that still use 1 or 2 W instead of 0 W like the good Samsung chargers which means 8$ saving in year 1) our power bill has been reduced by 30% - for a tiny bit of inconvenience by simply cutting the chord if not needed or using a wifi plug that is switching off at midnight or different schedule. If I need such device like a charker I simply press a butten on the plug and it turns on. Our EV / car charger uses also 2 W if connected and unused til we put the wifi switch in (it runs also a power counter). 10€ just to measure what the power is needed to charge the car. And of cuase 0,5 W to run that switch, but 1,5 W saved or 6$ ... and there are a lot of consumers you had forgotten over the time that are not needed to be powered cause mostly all are power hungry every single light needs energy and maybe more than you think like the LED display of a micro wave running constantly at 2 W and if you forget to close the door it took 9 W for what ? the old glowing bulb inside the microwave ....cause that had been built 7 years ago and the manufacturer for sure got the glowing bulb cheaper than an LED light ... Meanwhile we have lowered our power consumption by 40% and we are covering 80% with our own produced energy from the roof ... which ended in a bill of - 88% for power (the EV get its own power and is not counted in that balance cause it would make it uncomparable. We went down from 14,5 kWh each day to less than 10 kWh each day consumption and that is covered around 80% by solar power.
I'm thinking of getting a new charger (also for in the field, that's why the dual function is ideal). But I cant decide between P20 and K2, Do you have any adivce? They look so similar.
The ISDT D2 is a great charger so would have believed the K2 would have been better, but that fan is a killer ( what a shame ) Great review once again Andy, you really do cover all the details. 👍
What do you think about the Spektrum Smart Charger G2 Andy? I know the batteries cost premium but they are the best quality battery and the technology is fantastic and makes charging and discharging very simple.. As there is no balance lead on the New v2 version 👍👍
Its a Nice charger Andy. Had mine for few weeks. Bought it with us plug since eu wasnt ready before late march. I just re soldered the ac wire to an eu plug. With a extra fuse :) itsa Great charger withs umph loads of power:D and its using buttons finale no more wheel of death or cracked touch screen. And the power supply is Great example for youre ts100 :)
Great review Andy! I have a Dynamite Prophet Sport Quad charger. It has an input for an XT60 the same as your one but it says max 5S. Do you know if it is ok to charge a 6S Lipo from my charger or the one you are reviewing, when you only have a 5S as the source / input battery?
My only issues with my isdt chargers is that the scroll wheel becomes unreliable & choosing settings becomes a lottery, i tried cleaning them but it didn’t help, so all I really want is buttons instead.
@@snoopy_fpv119 so i took the scroll wheel out and put a drop of wd40 on either sider of the little thing it slots into, i have done this before with alcohol to no avail but after the wd40 both chargers scroll wheels are now working perfectly. Cheers m8.
I see no problem with getting rig of the Type-A connector. For the Type-C port you can get an adapter until all your devices have updated to the new standard. Just search for Type-C to Micro-B cables if the chargers use that port on them, or just search for Type-C to Type-A adapter and use their original cable.
Cheers fellow Andrew, awesome review! I totally agree, why doesnt it have a blooming switch! haha! Though I thought in the UK switched outlets was a very common occurance, but I guess you dont have the powerstrip on the bench so that makes sense. With me being in the US switched outlets are hard to find so yea having it on the back of the device would be great! One thing you didnt mention is if this charger had any faster ways of discharging built in? Like regenerative (put power back into the DC input jack) or external discharge (put a resistor in series of the batteries main power port)
Awesome review, Andy!!! 😃 Pretty impressive charger! But I would open it up, make a hole in it and insert an on/off switch. 😝 Anyway, stay safe and flying there! 🖖😊
I honestly hate my D2 Mark 2 charger, it always gives me unbalanced lipo packs no matter what parallel board I use. The AC power is too weak and the lack of a DC input just kills me. I prefer using 2, 608AC chargers with 200W DC power supplies to get the best and most reliable results. The D2 has literally ruined brand new packs, I use it only for discharging and quick storage charge now and the 608 goes with me everywhere.
I swore by the D2... until both ports died due to faulty mosfets :/ unfortunately, I walked away from isdt. Switched to ev-peak cq3. Good video! Hope the K2 is reliable!
@@Lithium023 6 months. Used to be hardcore believer of the D2 as it served me very well... right up until it didn't. 0 support from ISDT. @@DanJonesShow wow 6 months is pathetic imo thanks for the info. I was hoping you were going to atleast say a couple years, my old Triton EQ is old as dirt and still going. The problem is I just got a xmaxx and it runs off 2 4s lipos and on the triton it's 3 and a half to somtimes 4 hours to charge up the batterys. To fix the "problem" with the D2 always being powered on: extension socket/cable/plug (whatever they are called) with a switch on it
