  • In this video I show how to true a bike wheel by just using zip ties and a spoke wrench. This is a great way to save money and a fun way to learn to work on your bike.

Not sure why but out of all guides, this one made the most sense to me and was by far the most clear in describing what needs to be done to prevent the rubbing of the zip tie. Thank you so much.

After two weeks of videos and frustration, your video made sense, thanks

This is the most cost effective way to true a wheel. I have seen people build all kind of truing wheel contraptions which is creative, but this is the smartest way to true a wheel. Thank you for this idea!✅

I always use a couple of elastic bands with two small pencils, but this is also a great idea. Be careful not to damage the paint upon removal though

Thanks, this was an awesome video because I only have a 20 inch wheel on my electric bike and I can’t fit the gauge to meter the spokes. After I get the tire truth, as much as I could, do, I have to tighten them on a little bit or should they be a little bit loose? I still can’t test the gauge on it although I got the wheel pretty straight?

Great tip with the zip ties. Thanks. What type of spoke wrench are you using? Like it?

Next question is how to set the tension. I assume you can "pluck" the spoke like a guitar string and match the pitch, but how do you know what's too much or too little?

The wheel may run true with this method, but how do you know if it runs on center?

Good question, this method will get you close enough to true but still may not be perfect without the use of a stand. For center I do try to measure from side to side to ensure the center line is not off. This method is great if you want a quick fix. Thanks for watching!

My question is how do you decide which side of the wheel you should put the zip tie on if you are using just a single zip tie? Does it matter?

Good question, I would suggest sticking with 1 zip tie on both sides to give you better results, with only 1 side you may run the chance of your wheel being off center. Thanks for watching!

They sell zip ties at the dollar store for god's sake. What is wrong with you?

I still don't get it. It's the same how can't do derailleur adjustments either.
