Thanks for this video, just serviced my SP Digital yesterday after the leather washed had dried up enough to stop pumping air. Kind of embarrassed to admit I used it almost daily (latex tubes) without thinking to service it. One question, the rubber O-ring that sits on top of the plunger, does it just sit there loose? Or is it supposed to wrapped around the plunger? If it's supposed to be sitting loose on top of the plunger, then what is its purpose?
@@SILCAVelo Ah, that's what I suspected. Once I froze the video I could see yours was also sitting loose like mine. Thanks for the reply and the great service video.
I've had my Super Pista Digital for a few years now and love it. However, I thought the battery need replacing because after I touched the power on button, the digital screen flashes all of its setting at once (for a second or two), quickly flashes "0" in red, then turns off. I replaced the batteries and got the same screen error. I tested the batteries with a volt meter and they were a solid 3 volts and double checked that both positives were facing each other. Any suggestions Martha? Functionally, the pump fills my tires nicely, but I have to use a tire pressure gauge to determine the PSI because the screen is useless.
My pump is about a year old. I'm hearing a leak nearby the gauge. I replaced the leather gasket. It still leaks. I can remove the piston rod and I can still hear it leaking. It's somewhere by the gauge. I sent you all an email for help with no response. Can I send this digital pump to you all for service?
Have a question about the Hot Melt Wax. With its Sous-vide style packaging. Is there no worry about the old gunk from the chain getting into it when re-waxing?
In an ideal world you would clean the chain before waxing, or some people drop the chain in boiling water to remove the old wax and dirt.. but even in the lab, we see very little degradation of performance if you just keep rewaxing the chain without these additional cleaning steps. The wax is really good at purging dirt as the wax is squeezed out, and the chain is so dry that little to no surface dirt sticks to it.. so when you re-dip a chain that hasn't been fully cleaned the percentage of contaminate relative to the entire bag of wax remains very small.
@@SILCAVelo what are your thoughts and experience with gravel riding? In the West coast of British Columbia we get decent rain in the winter months. So it can get wet and muddy in the trails. Would you give it a good wipe and drop it into the wax? Or does it become recommended to do a boil first? And how many re-waxings is one 500g bag of hot melt wax good for?
@@CrimsonFlames I personally don't have any experience with the Silca wax, but use Molten Speed Wax - and if you get it wet/ride in the rain, you'll want to re-wax the chain. Probably not the best option for BC winters I would gather. I've been in the desert southwest of the U.S. for the past 6 1/2 years and waxing works well here. I've used the same bag of Molten Speed Wax in my crock pot for the past 4+ years, and still have plenty left. If you're waxing a chain and riding gravel (in dry weather), if you do really long events, you'll probably want to bring along a wax lube (like what Silca sells) to apply during the event. When I did BWR in Utah back in 2020, my chain (which was freshly waxed prior to the event) was so dry and caked with dust after 125 miles, it made noises I've never heard before.
Hey something is up with my pump. It ran out of battery, I replaced it as indicated, and when I close the battery compartment, it flashes the whole readout, then just "037" pops up. When I pump, the number goes up and then down, and when I press the power button the number goes to "050". The + and - buttons do nothing. Not sure what's going on! Thanks in advance for your help.
Battery dead after 1 year and less than 20 uses. Old pista pump has been great had it for over a decade, pista digital is an over-engineered expensive POC. The digital gauge is inferior to the analog one on the old pump.
Thanks for the video. I’ve had mine for 2 years, a lot of money and worth every penny !

That o-ring is a top-out bumper, it is just there to absorb the impact of the piston hitting the top cap if it is pulled all the way upward.

Sounds like you've got a faulty unit there (not seen that problem on mine), it might be best to ping Silca support directly
