    The key with the metal wrapped around it is from a tinned meat or fish can. The key is attached to the top, and you remove it and attach it to a small tab on the side of the can and turn it. Spam used to have this type of opener, and some sardines still do.

  • @teddibear1943
    @teddibear1943 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    That threaded pipe is a black iron pipe nipple and 1/2 of a pipe union, used to connect two pipes and/or to make an appliance removable from a gas, steam, oil or air line.
    Also I was thinking maybe some people jumped in and put those items on the "shore." They didn't know what to do with the items but at at least they are out of the water way.
    Love this, my favorite new channel!

    Little bit of sanding, some linseed oil for the handle, some paint for the shovel head (Rustolium) with some sharpening from one of those many files you have found, and you have a usable shovel. Yep, that is a triangle file. You are correct, that is a Church Key bottle opener. That is either a small belt buckle or a strap buckle, could be either. No idea what that last piece is, never saw something like that. Might be from the railroad bridge.

    Inspiring video, after being in the metal detecting for several years I'm beginning to seriously consider getting into magnet fishing as well. You should consider making a small pontoon boat with a wood deck and plastic 55 gallon barrels for floats on either side. Then add a solar battery power setup and a trolling motor and you'd be good for getting around just about any lake to go magnet fishing. The kayak or canoe is not ideal for magnet fishing because if you latch onto something too heavy it could cause you to fall over in the canoe or kayak. Best to be on a flat surface like a dock or a floating platform with a trolling motor on it. 🙂

    Per Google:
    To protect their aging beers in their monasteries, the monks locked them away in lager cellars, for which only the monks had the keys. It is theorized that the openers reminded someone of these keys - either because of their shape or use - and started calling them “church” keys.

    The triangle file is used to sharpen serrated blades, old hand saws usually.

    The item at 6:50 something appears to be part of a can opener like what you see on sardeen cans. 8:32 is a axle shackle used to lash a solid axle to a vehicles leaf springs.

    @lorienray6216 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That swivel thing is the key to open a sardine can- metal coiled around from opening, next was a three sided file , belt buckle
    This factory is polluting the water dumping chemicals, files and all their garbage, should be fined 1million or the CEO goes to jail for six months
    You are a really decent guy, getting rid of what other magnet fishers leave behind.

    As always, anything GB&W RR I’d be happy to buy! Looks like that’s where they use to dump unwanted bits of stuff before WWII, because starting in 1942 any tiny piece of scrap metal was too precious to waste. I still have my late grandpa’s church key, actually. Made in America. I’d say I’m for sure “hooked on Magnet Fishing”, but it uses a magnet and not a hook... what does that make it, then?

      Take a hook with you because that helps.

    The springs on the rod might actually go to an old car like 1930s if not 20s it could be like a model T seat with the springs in the buggy butt

    It's. A key. U put on a can of food. U stick the metal in the slit. And took it along the whole can. Like a corn beef can. Or. Span can

    That last piece you pulled out is from the railroad tracks. It appears to be a part of the linkage for the switch points - the part that changes the direction of travel from one track to another.
