I'Anson Reserve, Quick Walk in Beautiful New Zealand's Native Forest.

Location:
I'Anson Reserve is situated on Loop Road, just off State Highway 2 (SH2), approximately 8 kilometres west of Tauranga.
Size and Landscape:
The reserve covers an area of 10 hectares and is located in a gully system formed by the Waikaraka Stream. The landscape features a combination of native bush, an artificial lake area, and grassed open spaces.
Gift to QEII National Trust:
The reserve was generously gifted to the QEII National Trust by Keith and Takiko I’Anson. Their intention was to establish a native bush reserve in the Te Puna area for recreational, educational, and scientific purposes.
Restorative Planting:
In the late 1980s, Tauranga Forest and Bird initiated restorative planting efforts within the reserve. As a result of these efforts, there are now well-established stands of young forest canopy made up of various native tree species.
Facilities and Activities:
The reserve offers a range of facilities and activities for visitors, including car parking, walking tracks, a toilet, and picnic tables. The Loop Road car park provides a scenic view of Lake Taki, which is surrounded by bush-clad islands and shores of rimu and kahikatea trees. Visitors can enjoy picnicking on the lawn or partake in easy bush walks around the lake, with options for both a 500-meter and a 1.3-kilometer route.
Weeding Bees and Community Involvement:
The Friends of I’Anson Reserve organize regular weeding events, and members of the public are welcome to join these efforts. For more information about the weeding bees and to get involved, interested individuals can contact the QEII Regional Representative for Western Bay of Plenty, Paul Kayes.
