Good luck! Seems exciting! The only recommendation I can give, is putting sealant in your tyre tubes (Slime and Muc Off have products respectively). While I never have ridden my road bike more than 300km in a day, I regularly do 100 to 200km tours in Europe and rarely ever get a flat tyre!
Ohh that’s a seriously good tip. Thank you, we will look into that. One of our biggest fears is having a few constant flat tyres, I’m sure it will slow us down at some stage. Thanks for this!
@@TwoMadExplorers It is indeed a constant problem, especially for a road racer like me 😅. The product I personally use is: Muc Off Inner Tube sealant. There are other products like "Slime Bike Tube Puncture Repair Sealant". It is a bit of a hassle to get the sealant into the tube (it must be a tube where you can take the valve out! Example: all Vittoria and Schwalbe tubes have that). Might take up to an hour. Slime also sells tubes with Slime sealant already in it.
Good luck for your journey from Finland 🙏 Nice bike setup. Im suggesting 'mud covers' for tires, becouse you will be biking all wheater and there is lot of wet sandy dust flying from tires 👍
Don't forget to pack a gazillion energy bars! I've never done a long distance ride like this but have always been interested and one thing I remember from watching videos and reading blogs about it was how they were constantly slamming energy bars and other sugary snacks for fuel.
Hi Luke and Naomi, I saw a Korea youtuber who cycle along the silk road in China, when he reached in some small towns or villages in the North-West of China, it was difficult for him to find the hotel or homestay as the most local hotels or homestay has no certification to provide the accommodation to the foreigners. I'm not sure whether you will meet the same situation or not. just FYI
888.58 is really a perfect number in China!!! 8 means you will get rich in Chinese culture. “58” in Chinese sounds like “I’m getting rich ”. I believed that is a good sign of having a good trip
Great plan! I ride bikes very often myself. One advice is that as you get further north, the temperature gets dramatically colder. Depending when you will have arrived in Shanghai, the temperature in early spring could be as low as 0 degree C . Stay walm then and be safe on the road.
Love how "mad" minimalist you guys are. I personally would add an ultralight pair of basic flip flops/slippers because I tend to need to give my shoes a break when not biking/walking, but that's probably just me. Have a wonderful trip!
Maybe go through big cities in early morning during less traffic and I’m sure you have reflectors on your bikes and a reflector vest of some sort… will make it easier to see you from long distances… just a thought - btw can’t wait to see the videos - Mad Explorers on their Mad Adventures…. Whoot!
Sending you lots of good vibes! It's fascinating how there are so many items and gadgets designed specifically for hardcore roadtrips like this. I would have never known conditioner soaps are a thing lol Hope you have lots of fun and stay safe!
Good luck! Perhaps mudguard and a dedicated gps could help. Looks like you´re travelling very light. Another bottle holder and snack pocket is usedul too , you will burn a lot of calories. Maybe a buff for the dust/fumes can be useful too. Also maybe a flashy reflective vest for regions where people don´t expect drivers.
That is great! The beginning of everything is difficult, bravely take the first step, and wish success! But pay attention to safety and act within your means. Every cycling enthusiast here has used the Huolala App (a house moving and ride hailing app). When our tire bursts, even if someone exhausted, they will still use it. It's not embarrassing🤣Maybe I'll meet you at my friend's bike repair shop in my town.anyway having a joyful trip.
I love this idea. BYD should sponsor this trip. I work with a company that drives 80 BYD all electric buses in one of America's truly International brand of love and nostalgia: Disney's.
Wow this will be an amazing adventure ,Please my advice get a multi tool and every thousands km tighten all the nuts on the bicycle!! ( I cycled from Cairo to Cape Town and learnt my lesson the hard way) Safe Travels & Happy Cycling 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
For long distance riding, you may need shammy cream in addition to padded shorts. As for the saddles, they need time to break-in, but if you have been riding all day for a week and still feel uncomfortable, you might want to go to a proper bike shop (places that sell high end bikes) to get more selections. For a guy, a saddle with a bug cutout in the middle maybe more comfortable. Also maybe it’s a good idea to have the bikes fitted as well (adjust seat height, fore-aft, handle bar height, etc).
Well done on the preparation. Heads up: Most drivers in South East Asia does not follow traffic rules, so preferably don't ride at night, as cars and trucks will often cut in front of you.
probably a good idea to print out important maps with water-proof, tear proof paper. like your decathlon locations, key stopping point and km between them in a pocket size note book. a compass, also common phrases in different language as a stack of note card on a ring hook to the exterior of your bike. Phone is good but tech is not always reliable.
Well - i cant wait to see the next video - this is really an adventure, especially when you think about it, that everything you posses you are wearing with you ... what a feeling .... i cant really imagine what it would feel like but surely this is real freedom. But think about savety in Bangkok - I´m sure that nobody would see this as breaking the rule when you use a train to the edge of Bangkok - what would you win if you were hit by a car during cycling in an uncyclable area? Only a visit in hospital and that would be the end of the trip. It reminds me a little bit to "Mike Okay" who is the only adventurer in asia that i knew so far .... By the way: your answer to my last comment from the last video unexpectibly vanished but i´m glad i read your nice answer before ;-)
