Genkai disguised herself as the masked fighter because she didn't want people to know she was Genkai. The last time she fought in the Dark Tournament was when she and Taguro parted ways. Her wish was to never participate in the Dark Tournament again. And there she was participating in the Dark Tournament again. And she was ashamed to be there. So she hid her face.
Watching this on adult swim as a young child in the early 00’s was nice. i fondly remember this master piece had no idea what was happening but still remember it to this day
Doesn't it explain that Hiei uses the darkness dragon flame right away, because he knows he can't win the fight? He uses it because its his only option, he was just aware enough to know it immediately and plays it off like it was nothing/overkill because he felt like it. He knew is opponent was that strong and had to use his trump card.
Yep. Zero made the mistake of showing him his power in the breakroom coffee cup scene. This is also my exhibit A as to why hiei is the MVP of the Dark Tournament.
Hiei is like cheetah... Yes he's strong... But he also get tired pretty fast. That's why he needs to finish his enemy as fast as he could. It's also explain the situation Hiei been through before he met Yusuke.
The only thing I don’t like in this arc is that Genkai was brought back at the very end. She wasn’t needed for the rest of the series, (emphasis on NEEDED, someone else could have covered the things she does later on) and she had a great and meaningful death. Her talking to Toguro in other world as a young woman again, him headed to limbo/hell, and she to heaven was an absolutely perfect capstone for both characters, and an indication of the new generation fully coming to their own.
@@CYeoung the wish was never really much of a focal point of the dark tournament arc. Also since all the rich and powerful people were dead by the end, no wish would be able to be granted, and all it would take is one joke panel of Kuwabara being irritated about that. But the real granted wish (narratively speaking) would be that the dark tournament is no longer a thing.
I disagree. Like with Kuwabara's fake death, Genkai's revival was a good illustration of Taguro's planning and gave him some kind of peace. He didn't want Genkai to die like that, but had to do it to push Yusuke. So her revival wasn't for Yusuke really, it was for Taguro, which is why I think it's just fine.
The dark tournament was gas bro… when I think back to early 2000s that’s the first thing that comes to mind, along with the Frieza saga.. it encapsulates the Golden Era to me.
I actually really like Kuramas arsenal of different plants and seeds. It reflects on him as a character as well. The plants can be gentle and used for healing and lighting the way to find your way out. Or they can be used to poison or immobilize or hold down an enemy. It never really felt like an asspull to me considering there's so many different types of plants in the real world that do so many different things. They can be used as medicine just as much as they can be used to kill. His large arsenal of plants also reflect his intelligence and him being able to plan a way out of most situations. I feel like context is very important in regarding stuff like that. It never really felt like it came out of nowhere to me because it really suited what type of character he was. His Fox half being cold and calculating and his human half being warm and gentle. Other than Yusuke because of his emotional development Karama is my favorite character.
Totally agree with everything you said. It was a perfect way to show Kurama’s duel nature, high intelligence, and versatility. He straight up was my favorite character in the series, but that’s no diss on the show, as it has probably the best cast in all of anime in my opinion (with the possible exception of Full Metal Alchemist, Brotherhood).
Technically Kurama's powers are asspulls but it didn't matter since it was the 90's, we were kids and only want to see some cool shit. Togashi's writing went through the roof after YH with HxH and has since raised the bar that only few manga/anime can match.
The fights I like from this arc are Kurma vs Kiarasu,Kuwabara vs rishio leader,Yusuke vs Toguro dark Tournament finals, this one of my favorite arcs from the show.
I actually think sacrificing the magic system's consistency for good character moments is always a worthy trade off. Plot convenience exists in pretty much all types of media, and all it does is make the show more fun to watch. Like, can you imagine if Yusuke randomly died during a fight and the show abruptly ended? That would be more realistic, but it wouldn't be fun to watch. I like waiting for what weird tricks the characters will pull out of their ass to win a fight.
I love the time we see Hiei use the spirit sword. It one shows us the Hiei and Kuwabara are more alike then they ever show up to that point. It's almost like Hiei literally learned the technique the same way.
I always found it weird that they took out Yusukes mom from the Dark Tournament arc, but in the opening theme you can clearly see her in the stands with the rest of the girls.
These are some of it not the best yyh analysis videos. Thank you and I look forward to seeing more content from you. I’d like to see a video on kuma from one piece or fullmetal alchemist videos.
I appreciate the support! My plan currently is to finish covering YYH, some general videos and then HXH. Dragon ball and One Piece videos will come in the future for sure, being my favorites alongside HXH. As for FMAB, i may have to read the manga or 2003 series because i personally dont have much to say about the series when it came to the anime.
@@The_Ciple honestly YYH is one of my favourite anime series and your in depth breakdown and analysis is truly great. You can tell you’ve done your homework. Keep it up.
Have no problem with Kuwabara having a sword I just think Togashi should’ve expanded on ability to crest anything with his spirit energy. He’s essentially like a green lantern but Togashi rarely did anything different with that.
One of my fav anime. But itd have been better if Kuabara and Genki died during the tournament. I think having that darkness follow Yusuke would be interesting
It feels like a stretch to say kurama has an endless number of plants to use when in the early fights you're referring to he only used the rose whip and death plant. I'm not sure if the Manga is different
Well i know Jin, Chu, Suzaku and co come back, but they dont do much in the 3 kings. Im just saying that YYH doesnt try to introduce a larger mainstay cast like the Chunin exams and Sports festival. The Dark tournament is more like the Tenkaichi budokai's.
Tbh I do feel like hxh has better fights it’s just that he was not very Experience in Yu Yu Hakusho but in hxh he was able to learn from Yu Yu hakusho to make the fights way better in hxh but Yu Yu Hakusho is my favorite anime of all time by the way I love this video 2. I hate when They bring characters back to life same with dragonball I always felt like what’s the point if you gonna bring them back to life so the death don’t really feel that impactful that’s why I rarely take dragonball characters deaths seriously anymore cause for that reason just so l the characters can power up and win the fight to keep the plot going that’s my two cents into the deaths in anime.
I’m pretty sure in real life Yusuke fighting Toguro was coming out at the same time as Gohan fighting cell, meaning dragon ball had been running for years before the dark tournament.
Ima be honest love the show but I’m still on the last arc and it’s been over 10 years😂😂😂 cause that last arc is crap compared to this one best torment arc anime’s ever

On the outside, Yusuke is rough around the edges. But on the inside, he’s just Puu
I actually liked Kuwabara's fakeout death because it proves Genkai's point and Toguro's intention better.
Watching this on adult swim as a young child in the early 00’s was nice. i fondly remember this master piece had no idea what was happening but still remember it to this day
It wasn't on adult swim in the early 00's. I remember it was on regular cartoon network on toonami playing after dbz after school
@@Udai_taxim it was moved from Adult Swim to Toonami.
It would’ve been more powerful if Genkai remained dead after this arc.
Fantastic video, I'm really happy to see YYH content in 2023!!

exactly this and also hiei likes to end fights quickly. he doesn’t warm up or enjoy banter. he goes for the kill, immediately.
