Glad to see you're back at it after the health scare! About the paint job, how long do you wait in between coats, for base and clear, before reapplying the next coat? As for the heat, what temperature do you set at? Thanks!
Why thank you kindly Sir, i really appreciate that, and yes i do feel privileged to have access to a full professional paint booth, it's also a low bake oven so it gets the paint hard enough to wet sand and polish within an hour. Not totally happy with how much the gold pearl stands out in the black, the white is fine, really subtle, but although the exact same amount of pearl was used, the black looks almost bronze !!! so i may repaint the black in the second visit to the paint shop next week, won't cost any more as im already booked in to do the main large panels.!! Thanks again for your support Mike, always good to hear from you.
I like the pearl touch. Adds a little "richness" to it. Shame that you got some dust in it but these things are pretty unavoidable some times. Nothing that some elbow grease, water and 1200 grit can't help with :) Ironically, i did the frame of my ZX9 last year in my garage and literally not one speck of dust. Other times while working with my dad as a teen, i'd see paint work come out of the booth and it looked like it had been painted at a rail yard. Sometimes it's just luck. You get a few particles pass through those filters and that's it, you're sanding LOL
Yeah, ill be sanding for sure, it wasn't so much dust in the air, but residual grains of sanded plastic, they don't wipe off like sanded paint dust, they stick and lay down flat, then stand up once you hit them with the paint... so i will have a few issues to deal with, but it's the lumpiest and most complicated bodywork ive ever painted, so i expected to have problems..! we learn as we go aye.. take care and have a great week buddy.. D&Px
@@rsbharley4766 Dammit, it was 6c inside my unit this morning, and will be -5c tonight apparently, so send it next day delivery before anything falls off..!
Last time I saw a Husqvarna, was my chainsaws, as for having 2 wheels, never ever seen a road going Husqvarna in my area of North Yorkshire, saw a few in early 70s on local scrambling track, but thats it.
Something about the pearl/flake addition gives the plastic parts a more substantial look…beefier or tougher than the factory finish that just looks, well, like plastic. Nicely done!
Hi mate, all you need is a block colour if you're using base coat and clear, painting white paint on white plastic panels, several wet passes to make one single wet coat is enough, but if you're painting different colours over each other, then yes you'd need more than one coat to get block colour!
Lots of small issues with this Lou, microscopic particles of left over plastic hairs can lift up once hit with the chemicals in the paint, and they don't wipe off as they're still attached to the surface. but i laid on lots of clear so i have the ability to wet sand and polish them later.
@@Moonfleet41 … wipe down with steel wool help?? Smooth it out? I’ve done that in body shop with fiberglass work but dunno bout plastics… I’m olde school, never done plastics.
Didn't all that spray make your eyes sting ? Looks lovely though. After a clean up and polish I reckon that's going to look lovely on the bike. Nice job.
Well done, Del. Meticulous work. The golden pearl hue in the black parts is quite visible in the video at the end. Cheers from Nürnberg/Germany, Günter
Thank you Günter, the gold pearl is a little more than i wanted, the whole colour scheme is experimental, so ill see what it looks like in bright daylight and make a decision on it.. can always repaint it as i have a second day booked for next week to do the main panels.
Ad soon as I saw the word Pearl my brain said . " She stands up when she plays the piano !" I must add poptriviaitis to my list of ailments ! Cracking job Del, love the gold .... " always believe in your soul " aaaaah stop it ! Peace and love brother 👍🏻☮♥️
Hey buddy, the lyrical gangsta as always! I knew you'd love this, it's gonna be as OEM style as possible, just with a far nicer finish than the factory bothered with! Peace and love back at ya! D&Px
Thanks Gary, i'm by no means skilled ta this, just enough proficiency to get by and make a reasonable result, all of this will need attention once it's cured, polishing out imperfections and maybe even repainting some panels, but i have a second day booked out at the paint shop so it will be fine in the end.. Thank you for your kind support as ever, You both take care too, and keep safe.. D&Px
Hi Larry, good question, I have a few nibs and dry patches to deal with, it's an enormously complex set of bodywork with dozens of different angles and facets, so will need to be wet sanding for sure, but I've got more work to do, the big main panels still, so any of it can still be changed if I want it to!
Thanks mate, it's actually ended up a little too prominent for what i had in mind, so i may tone down the gold a bit by repainting it.. ill make a judgement once ive seen it in the sunlight.. i have a second day booked at the paint shop so it won't cost me any more to do it again.
great job brother !!! that 2K clear coat makes all the difference ! i cant wait to see its final look ! keep up the great work brother !!! stay safe guys cheers from new york!!!!! 🥂🥂🥂🥂
Thanks so much for your kind feedback brother👍 It makes all the difference with a few coats of clear, like varnish on wood, shows depth and colour at it's best.. take care and keep safe both of you.. D&Pxx
Thanks Iain 👍, not so sure about the gold pearl at this point, it's a little more obvious than I planned for, so gonna consider it as I still have time to make changes in the next visit to the paint shop in a week or so, either way I want the best outcome I can get.
Great job Del. Never seen the adhesion bonder before very interesting. The gold flake in the white and black sure will pop! You certainly make it durable with six coats of clear. Thanks for sharing the small details including different temperatures for spraying and curing. Can't wait to see the panels in all there glory back on the bike! 🇸🇪🇬🇧😊👋🏻
Thanks Paul, the gold pearl in the white was fine, just a hint and will only show in sunlight.. but in the black it shows up more than i wanted, so i may rethink that for the second paint shop visit next week, ill see how it looks in the sunshine (if we get any lol)..
@@Moonfleet41 Good luck on the re-visit to the paint shop and here's hoping you get a ray or two of sunshine soon to check it out in good light. excellent as always Del. 🇸🇪🇬🇧😊👋🏻
Thank you so much kind Sir, but im no more than a keen amateur with a plan.. it will need plenty of remedial attention to get a perfect finish, but im onto it. We hope you're keeping safe and well over there, staying away from the Covid demon, and all healthy.. All the best from us both, D&Pxx

Brother I am jealous. Really wish I had access to a spray booth. Colors look nice. Nicer once on the bike. Really going to pop.

Very nice Del. Quick question for you, do you not need more than 1 coat of colour plus pearl before the clear coat?? I thought 2 or 3 was the norm??
