  • Time is the enemy in any emergency. You can help emergency responders get to the scene as quickly as possible by following the rules of the road.

    I was on the left lane and stopped at a red light, and a fire truck was behind me and kept horning at me. I almost panicked, but fortunately, there was no car on the right lane, so I turned on right signal and turned right to let the fire truck pass. I could feel that some other drivers were staring at me. Maybe I should have turned right earlier? But there was a red light! And I panicked!

    • @NBaLogn
      @NBaLogn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm still learning to drive, but if you're in the left lane then you're either going straight or turning left right? In that case you're better off just going through the red light with caution rather than what you did.

    • @lezhu6856
      @lezhu6856 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@NBaLogn In ontario, going through a red light is an absolute liability offence, so you are only legally allowed to do so if your life is in immediate danger. Unfortunately an emergency vehicle does not meet that criteria. What a driver must do legally speaking is stay put, signal left, and try to move as far to the left of the lane as possible without violating the red light. The firetruck is supposed to be going contra-flow, it is legally the firetruck driver's fault for being stuck behind W D.

    • @rafaelmantucci9303

      In some places, emergency drivers will wait behind drivers at a red light when responding and turn off their siren if there is no where to move to. As mentioned by others here, move over if there's space, but don't break the law. Emergency vehicles have exemptions.

      Was it the emergency vehicle that honked at you and were you near an intersection? If yes to both, we have to blast the horn going into intersections or around corners that we can't see well. Even though you moved to the side, a *lot* of people don't anymore. So we have to hit the horn to get people's attention.

    If you are an emergency responder driving to the scene for example like if I’m a firetruck driver driving to the scene of a fire or other emergency and one in front of me there are two cars or three cars blocking the way by not pulling over for an emergency vehicle. If this happens do we have to call the cops for that because I’ve noticed something about it. I think that’s what happened because if they don’t follow the rules safety they might get arrested for that

    Yes the police will turn a blind eye to an ambulance doing 40 in a 30 zone, but if the ambulence driver causes an accident the fact that he/she was driving ambulance counts for nothing.

    rubbish, when the ambulance came the front car in the middle lane whent passed the white line on a red light and when the ambulance and the police car left the middle car at the front carried on at a red light making other people in danger and he is committed an offence ( I live in the UK not America what this video is based on but I'm sure that the rules are not that different)

      Hi +james hannon, thanks for the comment. The rules of the road can vary quite a bit in different locations. We're based in Alberta, a province in Canada, and this is indeed the correct way to act in this situation in our area.

    • @EnglishRain
      @EnglishRain 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alberta Motor Association Even I had this doubt. Shouldn't the car in the front just stay where it is, or maybe just slightly move to the right _without_ crossing the white line? Since the perpendicular carriageway is green lit, they could hit an oncoming vehicle unmindful of the sirens.

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well, as AMA already stated: the laws are different in different countries; Thus, in Germany you are required to clear the way for an EV with lights and sirens activated. Clearing the way incldues everything which is necessary to o so, also to drive through a red traffic light into an intersection, mounting the sidewalk, pulling over to right or left (not necessarily stopping), ...

      Lankster ....I think they should say where the video is made. I don’t know meters except that a meter stick is close to a yardstick. The U.S. tried to use the metric system years ago but it didn’t work out. The public didn’t want it and couldn’t get used to it so all the schoolbooks had to go back to miles, feet and yards. The metric system is easier but not for Americans who learned another way. Most people wanted to use our unique system.
