Somehow, and I am still really not sure how this happened, Mr Jake Bill from the Wull's Wheels TH-cam channel ( / @fuelpower ) and I ended up at Oakley Hall near Basingstoke on 23rd September 2021 for the SMMT Drive Day South, where we got to drive and film six different brand new cars from six different manufacturers, having just half an hour with each of them to film a review. Naturally, things took a bit of a shambolic turn, as they usually do on this channel...
Our second car was the brand new 2021 Renault Arkana 1.6 E-Tech Hybrid S-Edition 145 Automatic, which at the time of recording, had only been out a couple of months. Be prepared for advice about taller occupants, similarities between this and a Dacia Sandero Stepway, inability to define a certain market segment, rather large digital screens, a proper spare wheel, a five year warranty and very little of any interest at all. Nothing untoward, then!

This is quite nice. I don't understand why French cars get such a bad rep on electrics, I've owned Citroen's, Peugeot's and Renault's and not had an issue with electrics on any of those.
I have had experience of terrible French electrics in a Citroen C5 and Peugeot 207, but equally I have experienced terrible electrics in Rovers (no surprise there) as well as in Volkswagens, BMWs and many other brands too.
Let’s hope other manufacturers take note and put spare wheels in their cars.

I saw this back in 2019 in Russia and was impressed what they’d achieved in styling terms despite being the obvious Kadjar underpinnings
Well, there are actually two different Arkanas. One of them, which is this South Korean made model, is based on the platform from the current Renault Clio. The Russian market model, which came out a couple of years ago, is on the Kadjar platform, as you say.

Was thinking, nice colour but not really my sort of car. Then I saw the spare wheel and Jack and got all excited.

If I were spending that sort of money on a Renault I think I would probably be looking at the Mégane as I'm just not into these SUV cross over type cars that are all the rage. I like the idea of a comfortable ride though so good to hear Renault haven't lost that ability.
@@markonmotoring , yes, a nice supple ride! I drove six cars on the same stretch of road on that day, so it was easy to compare them in terms of ride and handling. The new Mégane looks quite different from the previous one.
This vehicle reminds me of a particular BMW as it has a fastback styling for a SUV type vehicle. That particular BMW is AWD. And it does NOT have a rear window wiper as well!

Yes, you are absolutely correct, looks a bit like an X6, but vastly cheaper, I don't know if any of these coupé-style SUVs have a rear wiper.

I'm afraid I can't get overly excited about this car, although I am sure it is excellent. No rear wiper certainly gives a cleaner look to the rear and also conveniently is a cost saving measure.
It's a new market segment for Renault and it probably isn't the car for everyone, but I think it is interesting nevertheless. I would still like a rear wiper, though.

I don't believe so, sir, there is also a new Mégane on the way from what I understand!
Excellent review sir, no rear wiper,sunroof,electric rear boot no problem don't need them.
Yes, got to mind one's head on that boot catch, but apart from that it is just fine. I would prefer a rear wiper and a sunroof, though, as it was a little bit dark in there, but it's fine as it is.

The ''Arkana'' name kinda reminds me of my childhood @ the sea cubs ....LOL ''Ah-kay-la! We-e-e-e-ll do-o-o-o o-o-o-u-u-r BEST!" On the word "BEST", the Cubs jump to their feet with two fingers of each hand at the sides of their heads, to resemble a wolf's ears.[20]

@@Luke-PlanesTrainsDogsnCars , I was in the Naval CCF, actually. I think that is generally a bit older than the Sea Cubs... To quote Wikipedia: "Renault said the name derives from the Latin arcanum, meaning secret."

@@Luke-PlanesTrainsDogsnCars , Great Wall have gone from this country now, I think. The number of new electric startups which seem to be coming out of China at the moment is absolutely extraordinary.
I certainly think the Citroen C4 and EC4 will be taking sales from this, its stablemate
The C4 is sold by Stellantis, and the Arkana is sold by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, so I wouldn't say that they are stablemates, more rivals.
Indeed I purely meant French, similar design language etc. Like they had the same colouring book 😉

@@lloydvehicleconsulting also as you say the coupe SUV is hardly a novelty following the X6 and alike. They do both have certain similarities however but yes as you say more rivals. I shall duly address my terminology

@@stevenmoran4060 , well, it's built in South Korea by a joint venture between Renault and Samsung and has a five year warranty, so it should be reasonably reliable.
