LOSAT is an interesting vehicle, but these "call of duty 360° no scope drift around corner" maps are not made for it. Top tier needs to be "big maps only", then LOSAT would be a great vehicle. Still I think it's a perfect event vehicle. Weird and unique, not always useful. Also for Naval better event reward would be HMS Furious with 2 457mm guns, or some "monitor" class ship. Any chance of the content creators getting together and trying to get Gaijin to comment on what they are doing to maps? The dumbing down and conversion of open maps to closed ones is confusing and concerning.
The problem is the kinetic missile is modeled like a normal atgm so it gets destroyed on every fence and bush when in reality it would plow through those like they didn't exist.
Nations tend to have their own distinctive styles and ship shapes. For example if I'm at high tier and see a huge ship with a flared bow and three triple turrets, I know it has to be either a Scharnhorst, an Alaska or a Kronstadt. If it has boxy main and secondary turrets and an AA mount on the tip of the bow, it has to be Alaska. If the main turrets are angular then it's Scharnhorst or Kronstadt, with Kronstadt having a tall and prominent enclosed tower at the front of the superstructure while the superstructure of Scharnhorst is more of a sprawl across the ship with bits poking out all over the place.
I usually refer to what crew says. Like destroyer, light cruiser, heavy cruiser, battleship and battle cruiser. It can be sometimes misleading but i usually try not to engage battleship in heavy cruiser or heavy cruiser in destroyer etc
While test driving this i wondered why it would have a laser range finder and then I figured out why if you range find first the missile will not hit the ground as often this also works with tanks in close proximity so you dont need to aim below the target to hit him

there is no vertical drive on the turret, LRF changes nothing. you have it to measure distances, quick and accurate. helps in this case to know if your missile can pen certain tanks since it needs a while to get good pen.
I just got the LOSAT to flesh out my 10.3 lineup, and... uh... well. I love the look of it, and it's remarkably kinda okay on long maps if the enemy doesn't see you first and just put a round into your turret and get a guaranteed crew knockout because 2 of your 3 crew are up there.
The increased the height of many rocks on other maps. 38th Parallel feels like just another city map with quick shooting round the corners (of the rocks).
the intro edits this video where so good, actually watched them back a few times. Really good work, and yes the Losat is pure suffering compressed into a "tank".
Great to see some quality naval gameplay, not enough is being made at the moment. The cinematic shots of the vehicles before you play and the battleship gun firing shots are amazing additions!
I don't really see the point of it, though. Why literally use rocket science to engineer something a regular, dumb APDSFS shell that costs about 5 dollars and a high-five can do just as well and more reliably? If at all, the LOSAT was a proof-of-concept. Yes, we can build a kinetic energy missile that has similar penetration values to established kinetic tank shells. Now what?
@@hunter_0221 A tank shell is only really accurate out to maybe 3 kilometers, at most. After that you're getting into lucky shots and severely reduced penetration. The longest range tank shot ever made successfully was something like 5 kilometers in Operation Granby. One tank out of hundreds in the war that probably fired at similar distances and missed. LOSAT provided accurate tank kills on T-80 type vehicles out to 5 km consistently by contrast. It made more sense when the missile was proposed in the 1980's to begin with, too. It would have given the 82nd Airborne Division an ability to stop Soviet and Iraqi tank divisions from taking the Saudi oil fields, or at least made it harder for them to do that.

@liammachan7600 definitely yes, but it was still more efficient in one field which was penetration and damage to target. It would cost millions to develop a shell that had the same power. Obviously if something like that gets made then it'll be far more efficient.
Absolutely no regrets about passing on this crafting event. I tried the plane and found the gimmick weapon hard to use. The LOSAT is extremely situational and at a BR that my US tree isnt even close to providing it with a line up for. The Karuma is just okay, and well outside my current Naval comfort zone. The UK tree is my main and I did secure the Renown if I want to try and get better at top tier, though I'll wait til its waterline issue has been patched. (if it has already then I missed it)
@DOLLARplays honestly I wish they'd just do away with crafting events. I don't think anyone actually enjoys it as a format. The change to seasonal events to be purely score based instead of a bundle of tasks was a massive improvement and made them actually playable for me.
They never bothered to fix the waterline issue. Des moines classes and others similar (primarily the majority of US naval tier) can get 1 popped easypeasy

It would be great…. If Gaijin adds an “Operation” game mode where you get basically ground RB but on air rb/ab maps and it’s actually like modern warfare but you capture objectives to progress to the next one and once you’ve captured the last one you win. Something akin to Star Wars Battlefront 2’s “Galactic Assault”
Games would probably last too long for the average player, leading to a very low amount of real players, making the cost of creating the mod not worth it.

Wonky atgm physics at long range in battles because of ping, weird missile launch physics (try looking straight up with the losat and fire a missile, it immediately does a 90° turn within 10m and goes to space), the missile itself overcorrects when the launcher isn't pointing right at the enemy and crashes into the ground (although i'm not sure whether this is intended or not). Gaijin apologized for the state the LOSAT is in, in a recent update patchlog and promised they'd fix it soon
It’s like a rotational strv, all the elevation and depression you want, without a turret, and this is a turret with no elevation and terrible depression
The fact that this missiles are stopped by a little fence shows us that Gajin doesn't know how to properly model them, or anyway Warthunder at the moment is limited in what they can do: is a kinetic stell projectile, now a chemical rocket ignited at contact. Pretty sure it can penetrate with no problems a Woden fence 😅😂

While playing grinding from Mig-21 to Mig-29SMT: I've gotten enough event materials and shit for 2 test reports and have constructed 7 missiles in total, would still need 16 of the other papers and 2 missiles i think for last test report This has taken like a month and all the reward vehicles are useless : Everything in the game, _everything_, every design decision etc is done to serve the sickest monetisation in a video game ever, you have to keep that in mind.

this "LOSAT thingy" happens to me on almost all guidance missiles because of my ping - close to 300ms. I think because the LOSAT missile has high speed, it ejects into weird trajectories before your pc(ping) can communicate with server to guide it.
So I wondered, since the LOSAT uses kinetic missiles, what is the highest penetration you could achieve, since the further you're away, they faster they become (at least seems so) Also, I love the way you play naval , it's entertaining to watch you play
Exactly right. One fundamental difference between rocket and conventional shell is that the rocket is self-powered, the tank shell is not. The rocket burns through its fuel as it flies, slowly picking up speed until the fuel is empty, at which case it will be affected by gravity like a regular round would be. According to the stat card, the LOSAT's MGM-166 missile starts at around 150 mm at 100 m range, then the penetration goes up - as I said, rockets are self-powered, so the penetration power is subject to an inverse proportionality: At low range, the missiles have low penetration as they won't be as fast yet, but at 1500 meters, it reaches its *apparent* velocity and thus penetration peak at over 700 mm. So: The further the target is away, the higher the penetration. In contrast, a conventional kinetic energy projectile (tank shell) naturally has higher penetration the closer we are to the target, as the unpowered projectile draws on the initial propellant charge's energy and thus loses speed the further the target is away.
Yeah the LOSAT is quite worthless. Not only is the accuracy tied to ping. But the missile pen values are completely off and the missile doesn’t come out the tube flying straight like in real life. It should also reach max pen at around 500m and start losing pen at 2000m The motor in game burns 1.5 seconds roughly and it travels 2km before it runs out but in the stat card it is losing pen starting at 1km???? Mathematically it reaches max speed at close to 500m because I did some testing on the distance it travels in what span of time. So really the stat card for 90 degree pen should look roughly like this 10m 150mm 100m 443mm 500m 775mm 1000m 775mm 1500m 775mm Then at 2000m is the last 775 value and it drops to 729mm at 2500. Also in game right now it gains 70mm pen for every 100m travelled till 1000m which is way to slow acceleration wise for the pen to make sense especially with the burn time and speed it reaches soo quickly.
@@handtomouth4690 it never comes out straight. On perfectly flat terrain it either dives into the ground or over corrects and goes high right off launch. Trust me, I and many players tested it in city maps where there is no change in elevation. It’s not a problem with the lack of elevation or depression. If you were to use the BMP-2m and aim the launcher perfectly level it comes out straight. In LOSAT do the same experiment with the optics also level, and it will launch the missile high or low. There’s even a video on my channel a short clip showing off this very thing on level terrain against a ZTZ96A. Had to aim my missile at the floor to keep the missiles from flying over the tank. Which it does that horrifically till you reach a long threshold distance
As a brand new player of war thunder (4 days) "small maps" is one of the first things i noticed about this game. Ive been watching war thunder vids for a few months and playing the mobile version 🙄 im injoying the oc version much more even though im not the best. I want to get really good with indirect fire withe he shells. Already have learned how to accurately measure ranges to any pont on the map from my position.

You can do those emojis through alt codes. Simply press alt and a set of numbers on your numpad. Usually War Thunder specific emojis are 4 digits longs but as an example, alt+1 will do ☺ and alt+14 will do ♫.

I was really torn between the LOSAT and the Kurama just for trophies. I finally got a good game with the LOSAT racking up 7 kills on a rather urban map but after that it was downhill. I still love they put more "effort" into fixing the event prize rather than reworking mechanics they added. Gib fixed Spikes so Italy can be playable again....

In naval, kills matter much less than raw damage in terms of rewards anyway. Against the larger ships, it’s actually more profitable to whittle the crew down than to one shot them via ammo detonation.

God it really is. Managed to get Big Al-Alamein and went ontop of the hills in the NW corner, basically owned the entire desert area from there.

No, nothing is fixed for Renown. Well, they corrected the top speed to 55 from 57(I think)

The Kurama is not good, the missle plane is actually really easy to guide if you use the virtual cockpit mode.

Hey dollar, if you wanna do the special emotes you gotta hold down ALT and press numpad 9 (for seal), theres other ones but i dont remember button combination, but seal is best one, I think alt + 2 gives smile?
this "LOSAT thingy" happens to me on almost all guidance missiles because of my ping - close to 300ms. I think because the LOSAT missile has high speed, it ejects into weird trajectories before your pc(ping) can communicate with server to guide it.
The reload time for this in game is almost longer than it would take irl

I think 700+ flat at 1000m, after it's starts drop as shown on the stat card. But probably it's a slow drop

Exactly right.
One fundamental difference between rocket and conventional shell is that the rocket is self-powered, the tank shell is not. The rocket burns through its fuel as it flies, slowly picking up speed until the fuel is empty, at which case it will be affected by gravity like a regular round would be.
According to the stat card, the LOSAT's MGM-166 missile starts at around 150 mm at 100 m range, then the penetration goes up - as I said, rockets are self-powered, so the penetration power is subject to an inverse proportionality:
At low range, the missiles have low penetration as they won't be as fast yet, but at 1500 meters, it reaches its *apparent* velocity and thus penetration peak at over 700 mm.
So: The further the target is away, the higher the penetration.
In contrast, a conventional kinetic energy projectile (tank shell) naturally has higher penetration the closer we are to the target, as the unpowered projectile draws on the initial propellant charge's energy and thus loses speed the further the target is away.

Yeah the LOSAT is quite worthless. Not only is the accuracy tied to ping. But the missile pen values are completely off and the missile doesn’t come out the tube flying straight like in real life. It should also reach max pen at around 500m and start losing pen at 2000m
The motor in game burns 1.5 seconds roughly and it travels 2km before it runs out but in the stat card it is losing pen starting at 1km????
Mathematically it reaches max speed at close to 500m because I did some testing on the distance it travels in what span of time.
So really the stat card for 90 degree pen should look roughly like this
10m 150mm
100m 443mm
500m 775mm
1000m 775mm
1500m 775mm
Then at 2000m is the last 775 value and it drops to 729mm at 2500. Also in game right now it gains 70mm pen for every 100m travelled till 1000m which is way to slow acceleration wise for the pen to make sense especially with the burn time and speed it reaches soo quickly.
Well apparently there's a lot of things wrong with this vehicle, so maybe they'll fix it eventually

At what point does the missile not come out straight? Hopefully you aren't ignoring the fact the launcher has no elevation or depression.
@@handtomouth4690 it never comes out straight. On perfectly flat terrain it either dives into the ground or over corrects and goes high right off launch.
Trust me, I and many players tested it in city maps where there is no change in elevation. It’s not a problem with the lack of elevation or depression. If you were to use the BMP-2m and aim the launcher perfectly level it comes out straight. In LOSAT do the same experiment with the optics also level, and it will launch the missile high or low.
There’s even a video on my channel a short clip showing off this very thing on level terrain against a ZTZ96A. Had to aim my missile at the floor to keep the missiles from flying over the tank. Which it does that horrifically till you reach a long threshold distance

As a brand new player of war thunder (4 days) "small maps" is one of the first things i noticed about this game. Ive been watching war thunder vids for a few months and playing the mobile version 🙄 im injoying the oc version much more even though im not the best. I want to get really good with indirect fire withe he shells. Already have learned how to accurately measure ranges to any pont on the map from my position.

You can do those emojis through alt codes. Simply press alt and a set of numbers on your numpad. Usually War Thunder specific emojis are 4 digits longs but as an example, alt+1 will do ☺ and alt+14 will do ♫.

I was really torn between the LOSAT and the Kurama just for trophies. I finally got a good game with the LOSAT racking up 7 kills on a rather urban map but after that it was downhill. I still love they put more "effort" into fixing the event prize rather than reworking mechanics they added.

the weapon sight can move up and down, the gun pods cannot. 5:53 wait what...these are SOLID PROJECTILES! How did they "detonate". If the round struck the rear of the launcher then it would have made more sense.

I like doing naval and it has fun moments I just wish the EKA gave like a LOT more cause it sucks when you work so hard for a kill then someone takes it even if they don’t mean too. Also do you have any tips for the USSR ships? I heard they’re like glass cannons and rn I’m only at 5.0. Like how would you angle your ship?
In naval, kills matter much less than raw damage in terms of rewards anyway. Against the larger ships, it’s actually more profitable to whittle the crew down than to one shot them via ammo detonation.
