    Hi Armando, Thanks for the videos. They are excellent.
    I just have a couple of issues with this particular video.
    Firstly, you refer to the glomeular filtration rate as being 10mmHg. That is the glomeular net filtration pressure (not rate). Secondly, you mention the glomerular hydrostatic, bowmans capsule hydrostatic pressure and bowmans capsule oncotic pressure. You should probably also note the glomerular capillary plasma oncotic pressure too and add that into your equtaion.
    Thanks!

    • @KayRenae409
      @KayRenae409 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Danni Volling-Geoghegan
      I think you mean to say that he should mention the Bowman's Capsule oncotic pressure. He DOES mention: 1) Glomerular Hydrostatic Pressure, 2) Glomerular Capillary Oncotic Pressure, and 3) Bowman's Capsule Hydrostatic Pressure.
      However, many people omit the Bowman's Capsule Oncotic Pressure because, under normal circumstances of a healthy functioning kidney, there should be NO protein in the Bowman's Capsule, and thus the Bowman's Capsule Oncotic Pressure is considered negligible. I know what you mean about including it just to be thorough, but it's not necessary in this case, since he's not discussing a diseased kidney specifically :)

    • @ianjones6095
      @ianjones6095 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In a healthy nephron environment, the Bowman's capsule oncotic pressure is effectively 0 mmHg, so the equation is often simplified to remove it which is probably what he was doing.

    Thank you SOOO MUCH! I study guide has made a mistake and stated that "Decreased Hydrostatic Pressure in Bowman's Capsule increases the GFR." Must have been a mistake. I would have never caught that if not for your video. You're Awesome.

    • @brookeharrison9809
      @brookeharrison9809 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Neo Ayeri this is actually correct! Hydrostatic Pressure in the Bowman's Capsule is the same as Bowman's Capsule pressure! therefore a decreased value would promote filtration from the glomerulus into the bowman's capsule. Remember Hydrostatic Pressure in the Bowman's Capsule ISN'T the same as Hydrostatic Pressure in the Glomerulus!!

    Afferent artirioles are the arteiroles that flow TOWARDS the glomerulus, while Efferent artrioloes are simply the ones that carry blood AWAY from the glomerulus. Thier position in the diagram shouldnt matter, just which way the blood is flowing.
    I remember which is which by Afferent starts with an A and is first in the alphabet, and thus the blood flows from A to E(fferent)
    Hopefully that makes sense to you :D

    Can you do a video on renal physiology in regards to what happens during exercise? Studies show an increase GFR from 120ml/min to 135ml/min at 25% of VO2max which is interesting because of the decrease of renal blood flow. So how can GFR increase if there was a decrease in renal blood flow?
