- Scientists believe they may have solved the mystery of how 31 pyramids, including the world-famous Giza complex, were built in Egypt more than 4,000 years ago.
A research team from the University of North Carolina Wilmington has discovered that the pyramids are likely to have been built along a long-lost, ancient branch of the River Nile - which is now hidden.
For many years, archaeologists have thought that ancient Egyptians must have used a nearby waterway to transport materials such as the stone blocks needed to build the pyramids on the river.
But up until now, "nobody was certain of the location, the shape, the size or proximity of this mega waterway to the actual pyramids site".

Wasn’t this always common knowledge? There’s photos of the banks of the Nile right up against the pyramids in the late 1800’s?
I learned this in 1978. Wtf
Yes I read about this 20+ years ago.
Not new info at all.
Indeed. There clearly had to be close by river access to bring the stones down. That’s ok, lots of research money went into working out this no-brainer I’m sure.$$$
British just want to claim the knowledge
Complete non story and bad clickbait
Im just amazed the shed i put up last summer is still standing
😅😂😂😂
TBO that's not far off what they did lol 😂 just the size was the difference , take that away and you just have a pyramid shape nothing more than that 😅
Next time use granite. It’s time tested, Pharaoh approved
@@danielmartin7838 hehehe 👍
😂😂😂
They have explained nothing
😂
About 6 decades late to the party but okay BBC.
Even if the water was used to transfer the bricks… how did they get 3million bricks stacked ontop of eachother after they transported them there??? That’s the amazing question everyone wants to know
Why with aliens ofcourse 😂
Or perhaps with telepathy 😂
Apocalypse helped them
I have no idea whatsoever. What I do know is Rome and its pretty mind boggling just how good these builders were all those years ago. Its transfer of weight, to house the dead. Sort of.
Is it an amazing question? I'm pretty sure it's known how they were constructed already.
No pictures, illustrations, diagrams, explanations? Guess we'll just have to take him at his word.
plenty on the special spots apparently 🎉
BBC Journalism for you.
I was waiting to hear about how this was discovered and where exactly and how and when did it disappear?

@@MODDINGPRIME - what a stoopid comment
Water was always known to be close to the pyramids….
Our first mistake, was to assume we humans of this era are the smartest civilization (as if we only progress in one direction). It's my belief the pyramids were built by a civilization far more advanced than we are. Consciousness waxes and wanes (forgetting and remembering). We are all slowly waking up and remembering again....
@@WhyWorldWet so advanced they built square blocks of stone 😂 not exactly very attractive are they lol 😂 you could have used hexagonal oblong triangles at least 😂
@@WhyWorldWet What substances are you taking??? These are the same people who believed in random gods (1 for each "mystery" of the world, such as rain... or the sun, lol), had no clue how the human body works or how to repair it (surgery didn't advance properly until the 20th century), they had no clean drinking water, etc... Come on with that hippy rubbish... Some rich guy used a bunch of forced labour to make a rock triangle - that's not "advanced" by today's standards...
@@WhyWorldWet I hate to break it to you but you aren't very smart.
How do we know that the water was used to transport materials or are we just making assumptions. There may be a lot of circumstantial evidence. However, how do we know with certainty that it wasn’t for a different purpose such as transport for the population in the area or even for the pyramid power plant theory? We keep writing off so many possibilities as we already have a story and just need to make the evidence fit. Exactly like when people get wrongly convicted. We are biased beyond comprehension.
OK, but how did they lift them?
They have no answer lol… But you’re asking the correct question.
Exactly the question we should all ask them, this doesn't even begin to explain how they were built.
Man power shouldn't be underestimated, but don't assume they literally lifted these blocks on their shoulders. You only need to use ropes to lift the blocks 30 cm, enough to put long tree logs underneath, then push the blocks onto a road of logs, allowing for them to be pushed or pulled. I'm sure they figured out a way.
Telepathy taught to them by aliens 😂
It's no big mystery... Rollers, ropes, ramps, and tens of thousands of laborers.
Old news, thats why there are boats at the base of the Pyramid
Oh yeah, you really solved it there, pal
Yes, they did. The blocks were floated.
😂😂😂😂@@00dfm00
It’s proven where the blocks were quarried from. The location is known. There is no way, zero way, the blocks made it to the site where the pyramids are without floating them down the Nile. The distance is too far to roll the stones. So yes, they’ve solved it.
@@00dfm00No, the Arabian people knew this 1000 thousand years ago 😮
@@00dfm00 There is a lot of floaters in the Nile apparently they are visible from space fantastic brown ones 😮
This doesn’t solve “how” they were built.
So they also used the water to stack the rocks on top of each other?
🤣🤣
no they bounced them off Putlers bunns of steel again 😮
Pulley and levers
What a stupid theory I hope these people are not giving Governments advice
It's a mystery how everyday a pyramid mystery is solved.
Utter nonsesne
I’ve seen this title a million times already
That's not new information...
The nile like all rivers moves over Time and the sahara was green at the time of construction
Nothing has been solved..
"We're gonna need a bigger boat"
( to lift the 50 tonne granite block)
There was an ancient port right next to Giza that they used to transport heavy stones.
"So deep in the Egyptian desert" she says. Lol, no they were built right on the Nile River.
So the river flowed much closer to the pyramids and helped in the transportation of mammoth stones. Of course, the landscape is vastly different today
so... HOW DID THEY GET THE BLOCKS UP THE PYRAMIDS TO KEEP STACKING THEM
It would be more logical that the bricks were made on site mixing the powder and water into molds.
How did they move, very high up, the 70 ton granite block of the King's chamber ceiling?
"Copper chisels I say. Hemp ropes. Good 'ole elbow grease. Leverage." Alright mainstream academia let's get you back to bed 😅
Doesn’t explain how they lifted 70 Ton granite blocks over 200ft.
Why don’t we we talk about the nose that’s knocked off the statue😂
Does Flint Dribble agree?
Whenever he comments on this shit like this he looks like a Labrador that knows it's in trouble for chewing on someones slippers. :/
Any ideas how they cut the blocks so perfect and then lifted them so high
So where did the designers and builders originate from?
Umpa Lumpa land 😮
@FirstOrigamiUnicorn the same umpa lumpa land where the Greeks got all of their knowledge from?
@@User78813 Exactly beer 🍻
Ok if they did that wouldnt it be some that are in the river still ?
Do such stones float?
When loaded into boats, yes. There are written records available from contemporary sources discussing their time among the stone, graffiti, too.
2.3 million blocks just for the Great Pyramid… do the math….designed, site levelled, blocks cut, transported, lifted, positioned and finished in apparently around 25 years. That would be one block from quarry to placement every few minutes, 24 hours a day. Even with a speedboat and a modern overhead crane that’s not realistic.
The pyramids are interconnected by deep underground aquifiers (maybe required for their function). These aquifiers were fed by the Nile. I have seen old photographs of water by way of either a canal or river branch close to the great pyramid.
Of interest is that the largest stone in the complex is estimated to weigh 600 tons. They moved it somehow.
These are a couple minutes we’ll never get back
That still doesn’t explain how they were built. Yes, it may have been possible to export them via water but it can’t explain how did they get giant blocks 300 feet or so up in the air and how were the pyramids positioned so perfectly
Not may have, they were transported via the Nile. A taskmasters written account is available journaling his trip with a shipment.
They used the stars to position them, cranes and manual labor to lift and place the stone. One man can, without a crane, get an object they can’t fully lift up steps simply, a little at a time.
When did that branch of the Nile dry up and how did they determine that? What evidence do they have?
I thought it was always known that Nile flow was very different n close to Pyramid 2650bc...
But still not a clue how they actually built them
i’m not convinced egypt can maintain the steps, they couldn’t build own canal, i don’t think egypt had anything to do with it
That still doesn't solve the mystery of how granite blocks weighing between 20 to 50 tons got lifted all the way to the inside of the King's Chamber near the top of the pyramid.
They attached 4 wooden semi circles to the blocks to turn it into a wheel. They worked in a spiral around each side of the pyramid on a gradual incline using pullies and wedges.
Look up the internal ramp theory.
So what is our conclusion from watching this?
How does the blocks float though?
Seems they've found the evidence to support an existing theory rather than out right solved it.
That bald guy said 'we know why the built them'. I'm not aware that was something we knew, there were never mummys found in the giza pyramids, the use of the shafts and chambers are a mystery as far as I know
if they had shafts and chambers why not walk ways 😅 think about it if you cannot get in it's usless and pointless for anything else
wait what. so you’re saying water was used for transport of the pyramids
Exactly! They were built on the moon and flown here by aliens before being loaded into barges 😂
My husband would have been overjoyed to know this new bit of information. Great discovery.
Why were they built?
Every new explanation makes pyramids more mysterious. What level of technology used to transport over 5 tonnes blocks?
It's bizzare because scientists have explained that they have bored out holes in stones left idle and discovered human hair follicles detailing that the stones were made from some sort of epoxy and poured on site in the spot.
So there were none pulled or carried along in the way suggested
We need a documentary by our cherished BBC on this. Don’t we?
So what about the water weathering? Has that been figured out yet?
That was Putlers pungent smog after a vegetable dinner and explosive cabbages was the result weathering of the stone pyramids 😳
@@JonDow-ow2fc Oh okay, just wondered thanks now I understand everything I ever wanted
Ancient Egyptians aligned pyramids with stars. Archaeologists and Scientists still don’t know how. This is a secret knowledge.
Antilevitation, 4 the corners, tombs and the generator chamber
Oh my God, I thought it was alien build pyramids
We did👽
Nope. It’s a human achievement
That one small miniscule factor being able to move one stone, that still doesn't explain how precisely placed they are and the dimensions. People think the pyramids are a bunch or rock in a triangle and that's it, yet if they only knew the level of mathmatics involved you would realise its a heck of alot more than just some rock in a triangle.
They just make me want to eat Toblerone. 😍 🤦 😋

The pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx are way older than mainstream says they are.. They are upwards of over 250 000+ years older than mainstream says. So that means the Egyptians (that we know of) did not build the pyramids, they found them. Same with the sphinx and many other megalithic ancient structures around the world were actually found as they were, and build around or on top of and this list includes the pyramids and the sphinx. The pyramids and the sphinx were around during the last pole flip. They were once completely underwater.
If you ever heard of the Great filter is an explanation on to why life is so rare in the universe - an event that all civilizations go through and survival is depended on level of technology, the pole flip happens on every planet and is an extinction level event roughly every 250 000- 500 000 years that only 1 or 2 % of civilizations can survive. It happens so often that there is a clock set to get technologically advanced before the next pole flip or its an extinction event if global technology isn't sufficient enough to survive. That's just a hypothesis though
The interior stones are no more than 3 tons each and not precision cut. They are very rough cut and lots of mortar infill was used. Just the casing stones and interior chambers were close fitted.
@pencilme1n the outer layer you see now was once fitted without mortar. The pyramids were encased in white marble that shined like a mirror in the sun, there was a gold tip on the the top. The pyramids were found that way, not only are they in line with the stars everybody knows about they are also in exact precise location of certain attitude longitude lines on Earth. The builders that built the pyramids had more understanding of our Universe, Earth and understood mathmatics on a level we can't completly comprehend even today. The pyramids along with other megalithic ancient structures are placed on exact lattitude longitude lines connecting themselves through an energetic hiway, so to speak. The builders had a c0mplex understanding of our planet and the energy it produces more so, than what we understand today.
If I could only explain what I believe to be the true history of Earth and Humanity's story..... you may have a diffrent perspective. Our story is long, complex and alot diffrent than what any Bible, scripture, or religious text says on Earth. unfortuantly, I don't have enough space or time to write it in this reply.
( I also don't know the full story obviously because I wasn't around then so I can't provide the complete history without speculation on some major parts that may be somewhat controversial however I've seen enough proof and physical evidence that the history speaks for itself, if you know where to look the peices fit.)
How did they stack up the rocks?
They apparently bounced them off Putlers bunns of steel 😮
@@FirstOrigamiUnicorn I heard that they were careful because they could reach outer space if he was tenced to much 😳

Arial surveying would have detected a dried up river decades ago, why this is only coming to light now is beyond me.
I think they build big square shape firat then they shape through triangle.
Actually everyone knows that Sphinxes transported the blocks, they had a bet on who could build a pyramid faster and the winner got their own statue.
I was waiting for BBC to say they found the stargate.
Good stuff👍
They also dug canals to bring materials closer. There’s no way Khufu could have built that in twenty years had they waited on their haunches for the weather.
But it is still unclear how these huge blocks were stacked upon each other .... That's still a mystery !?! .... 🙂 ....
They attached 4 wooden semi circles to the blocks to turn it into a wheel. They worked in a spiral around each side of the pyramid on a gradual incline using pullies and wedges.
@@antmonkeyboylee The incline will be very very long btw ! .... I don't think they would have used pulleys .... These structures are enormous with millions of 1 ton blocks ! .... I don't think they could do it using ramps .... Also the precise angle of the pyramid .... They are almost perfect in shape and size .... 🤔 ....
Lookup the internal ramp theory. The ramp spirals around the inside of the structure and uses counterweights.
@@theprinceofpie I don't think spiral ramp would also work .... Deep down inside me I am not convinced .... But maybe you guys are right .... Can't say with much confidence though ! .... 🤔 ....
@@41ankitt The better question is they couldn't build bigger than what they did so not that advanced because they wouldn't have stopped upping the size of the blocks etc
so you’re telling me they didn’t know how to contact aliens for them to come and help to build the pyramids?
Apparently you can just say you found a Nile now
We have known this for ages…
How do u float 10 tons of stones in a river ? Or take down to the waterway ? Something doesn't sound right 🤔 !
“Mystery of the pyramids not really solved.”
Yes that is the obvious answer. Consider the hundreds of years of pyramid building and the thousands of people it would take. This tells us that there was a functioning city in which the pyramids were built. The people needed water and food but the organisers of the building work would be educated rich people, and they would never countenance living on hot sand, so they would be in cool homes with their families. The middle east has a problem related to sand, that is sandstorms. It is easier for sand dunes to be blown to form in other places. Sand quickly covers up many things and a canal or river would easily be re-routed or filled in by these sandstorms over thousands of years.
I'm all bricked up too, with no explanation, but you don't hear me bragging
can't understand what is so mysterious about a pyramid. 4 sides. 4 seasons.
So what mystery was solved here?
Solved a mystery? Every child could have figured this out.
There isn't anything new about the building of the pyramids. They are merely maintaining the illusion for tourism.
Knew this for a long time they would of probably made a man made harbour near to the Sphinx possibly

There is still lot to answer. How they were put above ground on one another. It's still a question....
This didn’t explain any of the major questions
Scientist,oh real scientist, can't be denied you are really scientist
This has been known for decades and also water was mixed with the sand to create a slick surface to move them.
They have already tested moving by water and it didn't work
The BBC think the pyramids are so deep in the desert, actually they are right next to Cairo! 😂
why do they call them buildings...?
Shouldn't they be called Builts.?
And Joe Rogan talks to guest who claim the ancient Egyptians had developed anti-gravity technology.
Still doesn't explain how they carved out that many blocks with basic tools, and then somehow lifted them into place to a considerable height to build a giant pyramid. So they either floated or rolled them to the location, we know this. But how did they get a near 3 ton block 130 meters up in the air, and do all of this to an accurate millimeter degree in line with true north? This would be a difficult feat even today with modern technology.
A stone ramp was built along with the pyramid. As the pyramid got higher is did the ramp, they used it to place the stones on top one after another. Once the pyramid was finished the ramp was taken down.
the fact is it's nothing special TBO 😂 Facts just square blocks of stone and if they had better tech why would they stop at that size of stone Einstein ? bigger blocks of stone would get the job done quicker and easier wouldn't it ? 😂 so they was stuck at a curtain sizeed block so not that advanced hay
@@braxxianplus they were stuck at that sized stone block so they must have been using a system that had a maximum size of block they could move etc

The guy says it’s important to note this is just detail of logistics, as there really isn’t anything mysterious about the pyramids…. And then the BBC runs with the headline “scientists solve the mystery behind the pyramids”. FFS, BBC
putting may and solved in the same sentence is oxymoronish
I think that the entire world must be educated about what the United Kingdom has done during world warII in Egypt. in addition to the ancient Egyptian monuments which were stolen by the British government , and smuggled out and put in the British museum, its very important to mention that when Egypt was under the British occupation at that time, the British economy was suffering and due to that the British government was taking bank loans from Egypt, and at the end of the British occupation the British government stole all the Egyptian gold reserves which were stored in the Egyptian central bank, and put it in the British central bank. And until today the United Kingdom didn’t return anything and they didn’t even pay their debt to Egypt. Now that’s what the world have to learn.
