Unless newer models have changed, the RBS 70 uses a rear looking sensor that detects where the missile is located in the guidance beam The power level of the laser is low and at a different wavelength than the more common 1.06 Micron NDYAG lasers. If a laser warning system does not carry a sensor just for the RBS 70 missile, they won't detect the beam. But a standard missile warning system would detect its launch.
@@JK-br1muStinger is being Jammed by the Vitebsk V370 DIRCM system. Something that was predicted in 2016 but the upgrade to a AIM-9X Like seeker put off on budget grounds.
For this type of guidance it would be normal to offset the missile for at least half the flight both to avoid the missile obscuring the target and also to limit the possibility of alerting the target. Image processing algorithms track the target and direct the laser in “assisted tracking” (manual only can be used). I imagine that when the missile appears smaller than the target the laser can be directed on to target without offset. I suspect the missile is also tracked and the laser only used when it drifts of target.
RBS 70NG is an effective Missle! I love the fact that many.of Sweden systems are hard to jam!! Thats why the KA 52 couldnt detect it and jam it!! Same goes woth there Anti Ship missles!!
Robot 70 is great! I did my military service on this system. Reason it will not be jammed is that it will ride a laser beam from the launcher where the shooter aims the laser on the target. Only way to jam this system is to get in between the shooter and the robot 70.
You are only 50% correct with your information. I have been involved and used the RBS70 for over 15 years. The rear of the missile contains a monitoring system that keeps the missile inside the laser corridor. The exhaust is from four concentric exhaust nozzles about a third of the way up fro=m the base of the missile. Well done on your coverage and keep it up
Is it only accurate to if the laser beam is directly on the moving helicopter target, or does it just need to get close then the missile figured out the rest and knows when to detonate close?
IIRC the missile can be set to automatic proximity detonation but also triggered manually by the operator. On another note, again IIRC, I think the operator also gets audio feedback if the unit is aiming towards the target as guided by a radar that can be (and probably should be) in a completely different location (mobile radar unit PS-90 is pictured in the referenced facebook post, which was somewhat designed to be used in conjunction, but I think other radar units could be used as well). Perhaps @raeme16AD remembers/knows.
@@idomaghic You get the audio feedback before firing, if the target is coming from the left or right, and how close you're aiming at the position it will be coming from. And one of the radar units shown was a PS70 or PS701. The PS90 works too, but it was developed for the RBS 90 system.
@@darkiee69 I did my military service on a PS90, guiding RBS70 units. Shown radar is most certainly a PS90; the PS70 antenna had a more oval/less rectangular shape, also, IIRC it didn't have neither the protection cage on the back when folded down, nor did it have the raised front ventilation tower/"square bump". Sweden also had no PS70s to supply to Ukraine as they were decommissioned several decades ago. What's perhaps confusing is that the PS90 is based on the Giraffe 75, and PS70 is based on the Giraffe 40.
The lack of a firing signature is the most impressive part of the whole system. there was almost no smoke at all. The MANPAD system is an essential piece of any modern army, but if the operators are constantly counterfired and taken out of the fight, then the systems effectiveness is greatly reduced. It's mostly a psychological problem. a soldier firing a MANPAD that knows he'll be seen vs. knowing he wont be seen is a game changer. In the US army we were taught that we had a max of 3 minutes to displace before we would most likely have incoming rounds. This was in the 90's so that standard may have changed.
My taxkronor hard at work. Just wish we could send some of the SAAB Gripens too when now F-16 are being sent. But unfortunately there aren’t really any “extras” produced and I suppose one would want a more unified air force armory than just a few aircrafts of each make. The JAS 39s are however tailored for this kind of war.
@@zainulabideen10that would not work, the missile is looking back at the launcher, not forward to the target. The only thing you can really do is take out the shooter, but you won't have time to do that.

I noticed that also. The missile might not have a visible smoke trail to give away the launch position, but the dust cloud raised by the back blast would do it. If time permits, he crew should stake down a good tarp behind them to keep dust, leaves, etc. from being blown into the air, or plan on bugging out quickly after a shot.
War is the main crime against men No matter what politicians say about the horrors of war for women, the main victims of wars have always been and remain men. The essence of any war can be described in one phrase: the men of one country are sent to kill the men of another country. War is the peak, the culmination of all anti-male phenomena. War is a gross violation of men's rights. This is especially true for conscript soldiers, who are forced to fight under pain of imprisonment if they refuse to serve. But even if a man goes to the front as a volunteer, he is not such a volunteer as he may seem at first glance. A man unwittingly becomes a victim of patriotic propaganda, because society will use all its might and means to shame him if he refuses the “honorable” duty of all men to defend the Motherland. The most striking example of such shaming of men was the campaign of the so-called Order of the White Feather, which took place during the First World War in Great Britain. The campaign involved women who gave men who did not go to the front a white feather as a symbol of cowardice. The desire of men to “voluntarily” get involved in war does not appear out of nowhere. This desire is nurtured in men, instilled in their consciousness and constantly fueled by patriotic slogans and propaganda in the media. The idea that men are obligated to sacrifice themselves for the good of the state and nation, to protect women and children, and to defend freedom and democracy is deeply rooted in the culture of many countries. War is the culmination of male bondage; it is the strongest confirmation that men are at the complete disposal of the state. They can be used as disposable batteries, their life is not valued and means nothing to the government. As soon as a man enters the “soldier” category, he is eliminated from the “human” category. In the understanding of the generals, soldiers are resources with which strategic goals can be achieved, but not people who have their own dreams, hopes and desires. They are valuable as long as they can serve state interests. This “dehumanization” of soldiers is very clearly visible when it comes to civilian and military casualties. While the death of civilians is regarded as a tragedy, the death of soldiers is perceived as the norm. The goal of a soldier is to kill or be killed. Despite the fact that the victorious soldiers are praised and extolled, their slavery in the hands of the state is no less than that of the dead soldiers of the losing side. The death of the victorious soldiers is recognized as heroic, but does this make it any less tragic? This is just a means of propaganda that encourages other men to also sacrifice themselves for the good of the country. In peacetime, it is difficult to attract public attention to the problems of men. This is impossible to do in wartime. Men who are shamed in peacetime for their unwillingness to sacrifice their health and well-being for the interests of women and children will be branded traitors and cowards in wartime. In difficult times, it is men who are expected to bear the brunt of fate, so that women and children suffer less. To reduce and eliminate male bondage at the hands of the state, so that the world begins to show compassion for men and boys, we need to start with the idea of no war. Only in a state of peace can our voices be heard.

Really cool to see these bits of kit being put to such great use. Literally defending democracy, a people and a culture. I can't think of a better justification for defence spending.
And over half of their modern tank fleet. This is why I've been saying even if Russia wins, they are mostly a spent force. They've been mounting an offensive in the north part of their lines and they aren't really moving forward. I always wonder who the Kremlin's talking heads are trying to impress when they threaten to march into NATO countries.
The real benefit of the RB70 is its range and laser range finder. A Stinger can't go beyond 4,000 meters, the RB70 can do 6,000 meters. The KA-52s anti-tank rockets can do VIKHR anti-tank missile 8,000-,9000 meters. So the KA-52 has to stay out of the RB70s range and still be high enough to fire its rockets. That is tricky on a battlefield where the KA-52 doesn't know exactly where the RB70 is located until the rocket is almost on top of the helicopter.
The RBS70 are very old but reliable as it uses laser to direct the missile, interesting to see it is being in use in war for the first time since its production started in 1975. Im swedish and have been in the military, altho not using this system (i was in the navy)
@@0e32 shit happens. Plane can be rebuild, but thousands of ukrainians will not be resurrected. And the whole world knows that "Western democracies" are responsible for their deaths
If a Chopper or a jet, (more so a chopper since slower) enters into the range of the RBS-70 the only way to survive is to get out of range. It's laser guided, unjammable and no flares etc will have an effect on it.
@@bobthebomb1596 It's not even using conventional lasers so it's not even easily detectable. The way to "jam" it would be to have an object in between you and the missile/operator riding the laser beam. Other than that I'd say you can't "jam" it.
@@loki76 Only a matter of time before the actual laser wavelength is found; it's a cat and mouse game as with most defence technologies. You have to consider the whole loop when looking at protection systems.
This is 50 year old tech. Certainly during the 1980's and beyond, laser detectors were updated to detect this frequency, given the RBS70 was deployed by a number of countries. For defense, modern laser sensors should be able to determine origin of a beam, tag the coordinates, and direct weapons against it. Much higher velocity cannon fire could get the operator first, or explode into thick smoke in between to block the laser beam. Even a close miss will throw the operator off his aim. The Russians didn't expect this weapon in Ukraine, so initial surprise and success. But they should be able to adapt their tactics to rapidly fire on any laser emitter of that frequency. At least, a Western military could. Russian?????? One thing that is certain in war -- things are always changing, and technical advantages are very fleeting. Especially with a weapon the Russians have likely been training against since the 70s.
Nice, in the 80s we trained and used with a thing called "RL-83 Blindicide" you can find it in Google, it was a tube in 2 pieces, with a hinge. So you could transport it on the top of your backpack. It had to be handled with 2 persons, the shooter and the loader. The last one was the unlucky one, because he had to wear the rockets. This was 50s material, but it shot tanks with ease. Strange thing, the weapon had a face shield. And with gloves on, your hair on your arms and your face disappeared from the heat of the rocket. Later we had the LAW that is still used, I think? When we were deployed in Congo we used the Blindicide, but the RLC-83 which had a bigger warhead. If I see these systems, together with the Javelins, we had ancient tech, lol. Not that I envy today's warfare with the drones.
I guess you could even use it against ground vehicles, but of course it wouldn't have the penetration needed for armor, since it's to take out flying object/aircraft. But it rides a laser-beam so I mean it likely would do some good damage towards a van or something like that. But that is beside the point. The beauty is that it cannot be defeated other than escaping its range and perhaps "deke" out of the way at last moment or something. Not going to happen with slower moving flying craft.
I’m liking the content, but as a former soldier and seeing the setup (seat, base, etc) I have to ask how many soldiers does it take to move this from the truck to the employment spot assuming the distance and time required speed. Ie, it looks big to be really portable.
IIRC from my military service (on the radar side), there were three soldiers per RBS70, and they would usually be rolling around in CV90s, but could carry the parts split on those three soldiers for longer distances as well.
3 (two if one is really strong) One carrying the sight unit as a back pack, one carrying the base, with the seat (it's one unit) and one to carry two launch tubes. If the one carrying the sight unit is strong, and it's a short distance on easy terrain he can take the base on his shoulder too.
Do not underestimate the Swedish. They have brilliant technology. Nice to see other countries systems in action. If i were a Russian soldier id be very concerned about the technology in ukranian hands. The russian equipment looks really poor against these type of systems.
It's actuially not that hard after a bit of practise. The system i equipped with very precise optics to guide the laser beam. You literally steer it with the tip of your thumb on a tiny knob on top of the handle. I am a trained field enigineer on this system so I know this for sure. A fantastic system.
There is nothing special in the story. Nowadays, any manned close air support vehicle, aircrafts, helicopters, they can be all taken down by manpads. EW contermeasures are mostly ineffective to new breed of warheads that fuse different data on these manpads. Termal image, rf image, lazer guidance. It is really diffecult to dodge these missiles for helicopters. It is like tanks. Tanks are needed by they are not kings of battefields. Anti tank missiles has changed the game. It is same for helicopters and aircrafts. This war proves that we have reached the end of manned expensive machines.
it's still like boxing they have to have all moves because they block the body they go for the face, head they block that they go for the body they block both they hit an arm though and it costs alot of money
The map at 0:27 is severally outdated, it looks more like august 2022 and not august 2023. Kherson and the land west of Dnieper was liberated in November 2022. And the location of where one of the helicopters was shot down is also incorrect.
That's the most armoured helicopter in the world i feel bad for Americans celebrating. Imagine if it was a apache pilot wouldn't even be able to escape .
Don't feel sorry!!!!!! They wouldn't even be in that position to get shot down!!!! They would have a tow up there ass before they could get the shot off😮😂
If I remember correctly there are actual several laser beams involved here, one that the gunner tries to aim on the target and a second laser beam, that "follows" and help guide the missile (aimed at the sensor disk located in the back of the missile, engine exhaust is on the side of the missile). If the pilot would try to avoid the missile, by flying like you describe, and if the missile misses the target slightly, the laser beam following the missile would be longer then the laser beam to the target, causing the missile to explode and the metal balls would then add some extra "air condition" holes in the target.
At 2:10 you have an Alligator downed in a "dead winter field" that is all brown. This isn't the recent downing. At 3:40 another brown field. I view this as a WONDERFUL sales video. Substantiation of the hit is LACKING.

Robot 70 is great! I did my military service on this system. Reason it will not be jammed is that it will ride a laser beam from the launcher where the shooter aims the laser on the target. Only way to jam this system is to get in between the shooter and the robot 70.
It can in theory be jammed by a counter laser temporarily blinding the operator or the RBS-70 launcher optics by back tracking the targeting lasers.

What about thick smoke?
@@jeffploetner You need to keep the laser beam on the target at all time, but that's pretty easy on slow moving targets.

US Apache crews training in Sweden hated the RBS70 since it was impossible to find or avoid.
Best ever the RBS70 system - and Sweden is a super Tech Nation and a good NATO Member !!
This was in the 90's so that standard may have changed.
it has changed in the the west, but in Mordor not so much.
Thanks Sweden.

War is the main crime against men
No matter what politicians say about the horrors of war for women, the main victims of wars have always been and remain men.
Excellent presentation. Well put together, and very informative. Great stuff SAAB!

Russia has now lost almost half of its Ka-52 Hokum-Bs in Ukraine.
Thats a staggering loss, a huge defeatin itself. They might reach to loose them all before the war is ended

Good job Ukraine ♥️🌹♥️
Go Russia!

If a Chopper or a jet, (more so a chopper since slower) enters into the range of the RBS-70 the only way to survive is to get out of range. It's laser guided, unjammable and no flares etc will have an effect on it.
Not entirely un-jammable, but the one method of countering missiles of this type is not that reliable.

The Australian Army has been using them for some time..
Compared how dificult it is to even lock on with their older system Igla, this is a huge upgrade for Ukraine.
I think we need to be reminded that it would be a bad thing indeed if we pissed off the Ukrainians or the Swedes.
Alligators should not fly, they should be grounded.
No weapon is going to change the fact that Ukraine has ran out of soldiers and is now on the verge of total collapse. Total tragedy.
Seems like a brilliant idea. I wonder how hard it is to keep the beam on target,
Depends on the target size, speed, manouvers, and the general visibility.
A helicopter is no problem at all
It's actuially not that hard after a bit of practise. The system i equipped with very precise optics to guide the laser beam. You literally steer it with the tip of your thumb on a tiny knob on top of the handle. I am a trained field enigineer on this system so I know this for sure. A fantastic system.
@@kweenqueen The operator usually also gets some audio guidance provided by a (separate) radar, iirc?

There is nothing special in the story. Nowadays, any manned close air support vehicle, aircrafts, helicopters, they can be all taken down by manpads. EW contermeasures are mostly ineffective to new breed of warheads that fuse different data on these manpads. Termal image, rf image, lazer guidance. It is really diffecult to dodge these missiles for helicopters. It is like tanks. Tanks are needed by they are not kings of battefields. Anti tank missiles has changed the game. It is same for helicopters and aircrafts. This war proves that we have reached the end of manned expensive machines.

Don't feel sorry!!!!!! They wouldn't even be in that position to get shot down!!!! They would have a tow up there ass before they could get the shot off😮😂
Many jealous invators/spyes here!😅
What happens to the lazer guidence when the target alters speed i.e. faster, slower, faster again or alters line of flight, i.e. going up and down?
There is no Z in LASER. (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.)
@@SpeccyManThank you for the spelling lesson but I was hoping for an answer to my question.
What happens is that the target will be destroyed....
At 2:10 you have an Alligator downed in a "dead winter field" that is all brown. This isn't the recent downing. At 3:40 another brown field.
I view this as a WONDERFUL sales video. Substantiation of the hit is LACKING.
Full send! Damn teh Ukraiians are getting good at air defence! What a skillful shot to aim the laser for the whole way to the target! I wonder how far away it was. Nice work to the operators and of cause Sweden! ! Good work all round!
Thank you Sweden! Good to see the Orcs getting a bit of payback.
Free Gonzallo Lira! Free Julian Assange! Free Pablo Gonzales! Imprison Biden, Zelensky, Victoria Nouland!

Lost the country 😂😂😂
@@monaliza3334lost what? What you say makes absolutely no sense. Ukraine has regained 60% of the territory taken by russia, and they are gaining territory still. So what you say has no meaning or sense. Total brainzero 🎉
@@monaliza3334 Russians, you will get everything you deserve...
@@skymaster4121Ukraine received industry, science and agriculture from the Soviet Union and this was the basis of its sovereignty.
And now she can't use any of this to provide for herself, it can only be proud of the achievements of other countries.
It's funny to read how proud Ukrainians are of Javelin, then M777, then Bayraktar, then Himars, now they are praying for the F-16 (which is a weak analogue of the MiG-29, of which Ukraine has lost hundreds).
Where is the Ukrainian space program? Where are the Motor Sich products? Where are the Ukrainian warships?
This is all lost by Ukrainians, there is very little left to lose - NATO support.
Goodbye, Ukraine as part of NATO, glory to Ukraine as part of Russia!❤
@@dilukhinWell lies are a basis of russian trolls and the very essence of Russia, toghether with corruption. You lie extensively: first, its the opposite: Ukraine had all the brains and engineering and gave it to Russia. So true that Antonov is from Ukraine, and all the ships (including the Moskva) were built in Ukraine. Many nuclear phisicist were from Ukraine, too.
First lie debunked.
Of course it cant fend for herself: years of incompetent leaders like Yanukovitj and similars crippled Ukraine. But I dont understand your dumbness in laughing about it: the USA helped EXTENSIVELY Stalin under WW2 or they wouldnt be able to fight Nazi germany. Read it up, Lend Lease to Russia, make yourself some culture.
Second lie debunked
Third lie: the F16 is weaker than the mig29. Honestly, Russia has lost 300 jets to MANPADS!!!! Thats how BAD they are. And the F16 has a radar that reaches 100 km, the Mig29 only 60 km, so again, a worse aircraft. You just throw “facts” as you imagine them 😂😂😂
Fourth lie: “ukraine has lost hundreds of Mig29”: Ukraine didnt even had hundreds of Mig29 to begin with….you dont even bother to check before you spam.
The ukrainian warships were stolen by Russia, and funny you mention it: Ukraine has sunked SO many russian vessels WITHOUT EVEN HAVING A NAVY! Mwaaahahaha. They even hit them in Novorossisk! You CLOWN. Who kicked Russia out of Snake Island? Santa Claus?
Before you claim victory in completely eradicating a culture, a language, a NATION (Nazis were masters at this and I see you sympathize with the idea) think that Ukraine kicked Russia out of Kyv, Kharkiv , Kherson and now they are advancing in Zaporizhia.
You are a desillusioned clown 😂🤡, facts are not on your side! But, as a russian troll, you just make up facts to fit with your wishes 😅
Helos have had laser warning systems for a generation. Will be interesting to see additional counter measures.
Only supersonics can securely escape them because of speed factor. Having said that I wish Slava Russia but Victory How????? Ukraine has support of NATO Plus. Unlimited money and arms. Soon Will have F16. Just annihilate and end it man.
@@drrajstravelphotography Not pulling for either side but plenty of ways to defeat this weapon system. It is Line of Sight (LOS). It is hand aimed. It has a heat and launch signature. It tracks a laser that can be reflected, blocked are redirected. It has to see the laser so can be blinded. Etc.

Wtf, you support the invader?
My russian burn in hell for starting this war!
@@whiskey_tango_foxtrot__ Main question is why fight a bunch of NATO plus conspirators and cowards just annihilate them . POOR RUSSIANS are dying for nothing.......
The laser doesn't track, the sights are optical. There is no laser that is tracking the target. to reflect it you have to put something between the pad and the missile ore to take out the operator. It is not a beam rider. @@whiskey_tango_foxtrot__

anyone believe Ukraine are winning must be an idiot, the Ukraine have lost 80% of its army, zelensky are high on drugs that were use by US to siphoned its resources in a latter date so to pay the obsolete weapons it sent to ukraine
Coming more until you go home!😂
