We have a Kuvasz, she is a wonderful, kind dog. Loves farm animals, gentle with the babies. Prefers to sleep outside, does small yips rather than barking. Very independent on our property, but always keeps us in mind. Polite, gentle, free spirit, but guardian. Not a drooler.

Sounds like my kuvosz - German shepherd mix dog. He was the best dog I could have ever hoped for. He lived to be just shy if 15 yrs and weighed 110 lbs.

Kuvasz definitely a protective dog breed. They will guard with their whole hearts and are extremely powerful. While they need to be socialized, their protective and guarding skills are inborn and natural,

GPs, Maremmas and Kuvasz are great cattle and farm guardians that with a little breeder intervention transform into proper pets for most households that provide them
with space, they will never work well for small apartments or houses, and need being exercised if they lack a yard big enough.

This video is obviously done by someone who looked up information on the internet. Pyrenees are about average to train but that doesn't mean they will do what you want, when want them to do it. They are suborn and independent. They also have a low energy level compared to a Kuvasz that has a high energy level. Another difference is color. A Kuvasza is white and a Pyr can be many different colors.

I have two kuvasz girls. I have them for the first time. Yes, they are stubborn, and it's not to let them command you. You simply must be the Alfa in that pack. But they guarding me, and love me sky high.. as I love them too 🤗

My male kuvasz made me work a lot till he understood his position. Now we are fine, but certainly not a dog for first owners.

My pyr drools as do most Pyrenees. They are NOT easy to train. Not sure where this video got that info from. They’re renowned for their stubbornness and independence. They are supposed to be herding on their own so they are bred to have a very independent mind. Great dogs all around but they are not easy to train.

My 2 Kuvasz are both 150 pound males guess that makes the above average. They bark a fair bit and they do like to catch things. Their favorite thing to do is jump straight up from a seated position and look over a 7 foot fence. We call it breaching like a great white shark because at the top their jaws snap closed.

They are great buddies, aren't they? 150 pounds are on the heavier side of the breed range.

Wonder how old they are, but please pay very careful attention for their hip dysplasia. especially if they like to jump. They seems to have rather high tendency to suffer that problem.

Is it hard to find customers for good Lifestock Guardian Dogs? Since I know a lady she's having perfect Kuvasz working dog puppies looking for work. Send a comment down below and I can forward more information about her. Puppies are CKC registered, vet checked, microchipped and raised on her farm, exposed to livestock.

The great Pyrenees was developed mostly from the Kuvasz. It is slightly different but they are rather similar dogs.

You got it backwards. The Kuvasz is hundreds of years old. The Pyrenees is THOUSANDS of years old.

My understanding was that the Great Pyrennees were one of the most genetically untampered breeds available, and that they date back to accompanying Roman soldiers into other lands in Europe as they expanded northward. That being said, both breeds are splendid, beautiful dogs and share a lot in common!

Hi Strayhound. All the dogs used in the great transhumances of the past are related, some closer than others. I read a translated report by a Hungarian cynologist that the Kuvaszok are most closely related to the Akbash. I've had/have dogs of both breeds, and phenotypically they were very similar. Small sample size, though :)

No. Same-same but different. If you want an athlete and serious guard dog, it's the Kuvasz.

My Pyr trains easily. Of course, I am an experienced dog owner. She has accepted me as her pack leader. She doesn't obey my wife quite as well as she responds to me...

Kuvasz breeder here. Several wrong info here. 1 kuvasz do not drool, pyr do.2 hip and elbow issues have been eliminated in all of Canada, 3 preydrive is pedigree dependent 4 kuvasz have zero backyatd breeders in Canada. All breeders offer mentorship and health guarantees vs pyr where the marked is flooded with lots of ill bred dogs. 5 kuvasz are not exactly hypoallergenic but are are much less so than most breeds meaning ppl with low sensitivities wont notice anything with kuvasz. 6 kuvasz have stronger working instincts - again going back to too mane ill-bred pyrs on the market.

When I look at a pyr dog, I always see the kuvaz breed. I always feel a little sad that the noble and very ancient race, the Kuvasz, had to be converted to the PYR model for political reasons. Many breeds were created in the 19 th century so that new nation-states would have their "own" breed of dog. This is how, for example, the Slovak breed called Cuvac was created, also from KUVASZ... The breed named Cuvac was bred for the Cszslovak (Slovak) created after the Hungarian kingdom was destroyed by the great powers (the peace system after the First Violet War). Brainwashing above all else...
