There are so many options out there on how to build a chicken coop run. I thought we would share with you how we chose to build ours in hopes that in may help somebody else out there who is considering options when building their run. If you have any questions, leave them in a comment down below and we will try our very best to answer them for you. Thank you so much for watching our chicken journey!
Our run is 30ft x 10ft. It is 3 dog kennels attached to make one.

I originally did this on the 7’x25’ run. The burrowing critters went right under. I ended up digging down about 4” inside the run, making a basket under the entire interior of the run, attached to the frame. Then I replaced the soil, threw seed down and covered with straw. It has prevented the gophers from eating all the feed, and I have greens growing inside the run now.

I am SO happy to see how you are preventing predators from digging in. When it is planted it will look really good. You will have super safe contented chickens!!!
What a great job! It's the Taj Mahal compared to the coop and run we built so many years ago. No wonder we lost several chickens to the wily fox! I am very impressed.

your flowers and herbs???
i am afraid Geddy would dig them up! hahaha We do have 2 big solar lights though....one for the front of the coop and one for the back.
It is best not to light up coop. Animals can find the coop easier.maybe a motion sensor solar light? For the vents we cut one front and back andcovered with landscape cloth. And we only covered one vent in winter. We live north Michigan area. Best thing we did was use plastic coragated piece under perch. It is 15"wide and length of perch. It just lays on coop floor and slides out for easiest clean up each day. Free from local sign shop and we sent over a dozen eggs .you are going to have a great time with the chicks.
Matt has done a great job in protecting your chicks. Couldn't get any better, he did a great job at explaining and showing what all he did.

Great chicken coop. I hadn't seen a pair of hog ring pliers since I was girl. I had to laugh. That wasn't how my Dad used them but looked like it worked vrat.

Heather from experience you might want to leave your chair outside of the run when your not using it. The little chicks will end up getting on it and making a mess. It is looking awesome!

Great job Matt....you have really worked hard on this project. I do think it is critter proof. Looking forward to seeing a video of it later on when Heather's sun flowers and herbs make their presence known, it will be beautiful. We use allot cattle rod in the garden. I can certainly use a Hog Tie Kit myself. Thanks for the Intro👍😎
Absolutely wonderful !! That info on the roof pipes and brackets will REALLY help me with my outdoor pen for my cats. I would like to share something I have learned from working with hardware cloth... that top edge separates VERY EASILY. I highly recommend you hog-clip again four or five spaces lower to reduce the stress on that top edge. (You'll be so sick of clipping, but I promise it will be a good thing.)

Good job! I know how hard it can be working with hardware cloth, trust me, having built multiple coops and covered many windows, constructed a lot of hinged screens to cover the windows, etc, etc, etc. We have so many rocks around here, we put those on top of the dig barrier as well and stake it into the ground. No digger is getting into yours! Did you get the pics I emailed of the covered bantam coop we did a few years back? Hey, I made oatmeal raisin cookies today myself, what kind is Heather making? ~Cyn

We had ours in our green house and have 4 doors with fine heavy little squares on it. We had a chipmonk got in somehow eating the food. I guess they can flatten themselves to get in cracks under the doors. I worry about weasles getting them. We have hawks so I had some in our huge dog kennel and we had a top on it till we got in the coop.
The animals are so cute.

Did you only hog ring it on the top? Is only the dirt keeping the bottom in place, or did you use some other form of connector?

What did you do for the top?
I have a question I'm sorry to bother you it is not about chickens or anyting but I made some grape jelly and some apple jelly and some orange marmalade jelly each one had six to eight cups of juice in it can I put 5 to 7 cups of sugar and one box of pectin it has not turn to jelly it is liquid can I redo it and add more pectin or what do I need to do
i am not sure, if you canned it already? you could try to reprocess it. always test the set of your jelly before canning it. I use frozen spoons. Keep some soup spoons in your freezer, and when your jelly is ready to be canned, dip a spoon in it and see how it sets up. if it drips right off without becoming thick, then you know your jelly isn't ready. sometimes it needs more pectin but usually its due to not hard boiling it long enough or hard enough. jelly is trickier to make than jam, since juice is harder to thicken than a berry or fruit with natural pectin already in it. but definitely part of the learning process. ❤️
