Hardware Cloth: How I Stretched and Attached

  • How I stretched and attached Hardware Cloth. Maybe there's an easier way, but this method worked great for my purpose.
Note: I flipped the piece over so that the "curved side" is facing outward... I did not do this on my first attempt and I found that the Cloth tended to "bow" inward.
I used an air powered staple gun; 1 inch staples, no more than 80psi. My cloth is 19gauge. Screw the screws into the yard stick far enough so you can easily insert the screws thru the cloth and then screw the yardstick snug into the other piece of wood. My pieces are 4-5 inches longer than the area I intend to cover.

I love how people figure out really interesting ways to problem solve when building. That was so clever!

Oh I forgot to say thank you! I’m building a cat enclosure for a local shelter and I’m going to try this method. 🥰

Thank you! We are now the proud "parents" of 5 chickens. The run is completely enclosed and as predator proof as I know how to make it. Raccoons, fox, coyotes, posdum, skunks, ferral cats, dogs, and birds of pretty wild find it challenging to get in. Run is 13ftL x 6.5ftW x 6ftH.

So maybe buy a board and put metal screw hooks on it for doing several panels. I am about to do a 30 foot porch. We raise turkey/chicken and we are tired of them being on the porch and pooping everywhere. I am about to do a pony wall with hardware cloth panels above it.

@@GopherKeelerYou choose the size according to your local hot-selling hardware cloth, and I'll produce it for you. You can put your own trademark on it, and then you can sell it locally, which is definitely much cheaper than buying it in the store.😊
