Prolly my favorite battle theme from the game, along with the evil butcher and Carmilla.

Sad song for a rather sad boss.
the crow witch was something of a turning point for gabriel's morality. her tale was fairly well know, a tragic thing really.
so in essence gabriel was killing another victim of love lost, a now evil victim, admittedly, but he and the crow witch held a lot in common.
she too became a monster after losing the one she loved.
His own inner transformation started here.

I believe she was already a witch when she lost him though. So, by traditional Medieval logic - which this game also seems to favor, she was already an evil chick, married to Satan, who just happened to care about one other person.
(And I say that because during the encounter with Baba Yaga, she not-so-vaguely points out that she's in contact with the "King of the Angels", which is one of Satan's titles.)
This means that Malphas was, or still is, one of Satan's servants herself - regardless of her rivalry with Baba Yaga. And while yes, Castlevania as a franchise has its "good witches", the Lords of Shadow timeline does not.
Not disagreeing with your point. Just shedding a little extra light on it. Personally, I rather think Gabriel's turning point started with Cornell, as he himself was a founder of the Brotherhood of Light before his own fall to darkness. I know there's no "lost love" connection there. But that revalation's the moment that first plants a seed of doubt in Gabriel's mind. But aside from the Lords of Shadow/Brotherhood Founders, the game is filled with other examples of good guys-turned bad. There's the mad abbot, Dorin; Laura, the innocent little girl who was forced to become Carmilla's "daughter"; and Satan himself, if you believe he was once the brightest and greatest of the angels.
It's even suggested that the Dark Crystal demon was once a former angel as well.
Also, there's every possibility that Gabriel didn't even know Malphas' story. The narration sections are done by Zobek - to us, not by Gabriel, and not to Gabriel. He did know that there was a "Crow Witch" in that region, but nothing suggests that he knew anything else about her. Unless the scrolls he collects tell the story too.
