    When you read about all the Gator attacks in Florida I've always have my brows raised at how quickly and casually people in these type of videos prance through the parks

    Some viewers have mentioned how deer and bear seem to detect the cameras somehow. I'd like to shed a little light on that subject, from my study of animals over most of my life:
    Whitetail deer have amazing noses. They have right at 300 million olfactory receptors. Compare that to a human's, which is right at FIVE million! If my math is right, that's about 60x more receptors - 60x better sense of smell. That's awesome, right? Well, not so fast. Consider that scientists estimate the black bear to have between 3 and 4 BILLION olfactory receptors! With a favorable wind, bears can smell their food from up to TWENTY MILES (yes, 20 MILES) away! How crazy is that?? So when Tim leaves a camera site, he leaves enough scent behind for bears to smell him for several days after. I know it sounds insane, but it's absolutely true. Of course deer and bears have eyesight, and it's very important to them. But in a very real way, these animals "see" the world with their noses. Everyone has heard how incredible the nose of the venerable bloodhound is, right? Of course. Bloodhounds are considered the heavyweight world champions of dog noses! If Grammys and Oscars were given out for dogs with the best sense of smell, the wonderful bloodhound would have trophy cases full of them! But get this: A black bear - the very kind sniffing around Tim's cameras - has a nose that is SEVEN (7) TIMES MORE POWERFUL! Just let that sink in for a minute. Actually, I think they should train bears instead of bloodhounds to chase down escaped prisoners! lol. Don't you???

    Tim, When you get to a camera you always have to turn it "on"?? Why is the camera always turned "off"?? Don't understand this?

    • @ShrikeZone
      @ShrikeZone  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's on when I get to it. I turn it off when I open it because it is taking a video of me taking it off the tree. I then flip it back on to see how many videos it took over the time it's been out.

    Tim, I’m a long time fan and I have one pressing question that has been on my Ming for years. How the hell do you walk thru that densely wooded area barefoot?

    • @ShrikeZone
      @ShrikeZone  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I grew up down here. Most of the time I have to walk through some water so there's no sense getting my shoes wet.

    Wasn't that panther at the end a surprise in that area? Or maybe a mutant bobcat since it didn't seem to have much tail.... LOL

      There is a scrub area on west side of dixie railroad tracks in Boca teeca next to new townhouse they are putting up. There was a whole pack living there where they plowed down the land. They also killed many endangered gopher tortoise to build the development.

    Recon Force seems to be quite better than Moultrie, isnt it?

    • @ShrikeZone
      @ShrikeZone  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Moultrie is good during the best lighting conditions. I think the Browning cameras have better night videos.
