The Lightning are a team that have played a million big games in the last 5 or 6 seasons. So they have seen it all. Done it all. Nothing bothers them. Steve Yzerman when he came to Tampa built the Lightning in the image of those Detroit Red Wings teams. All those great Russian players. Stamkos like Yzerman. Toronto still has a great opportunity to win the Series. And hey Boston is down 2-0 and Panthers got beat in Game 1... Leafs have to play smart. Lightning like to needle teams into penalties. Don't do it...

I have noticed that the last 4 games between these two have been very chippy affairs, with both teams taking way too many penalties. This isn't the Leafs style, they are built to be flashy and high flying 5 on 5, and are not known as a physical team. If they make the mistake of trying to bully the Lightning, in the playoffs no less, Maple Leafs will be hitting the links again as usual, count on it.

Great LFR- right on the money. A bit surprised you didn’t mention Kampf passing the puck to a stickless Brodie instead of clearing it on the PK- which led directly to a goal. That was typical of the sloppy lack of attention to detail that plagued us all night. And Willy was asleep at the wheel again- that direct pass to him on the point that he missed by 2 yards, which also led to a Tampa goal. Simmonds idiotic penalties cost 2 goals, but sloppiness cost 2 more.

I'm a believer in John Tavares. Fuck the reference to his salary. Thats the salary that it took to get him here. Its history so the critics need to park it. Lets take a little deep dive into who Taveres plays with shall we. Taveres is a north south bull. Hard on the puck and hard in the battle zones along the walls and at the net front. Unfortunately he does not have complimentary line mates. You can't expect to reap the benefits of Taveres' qualities when he lines up with powder puffs. Yes folks I said powder puffs aka not hard line mates. Imagine for a minute how much more effective Taveres would be with say a Hyman and a Mangiapane. Complimentary players who forecheck hard, go to dirty ares, win puck battles, etc. Mikaheyev is not that. Nylander is definitely not that as he takes too many minutes off. I'm thinking that Dubas also realizes that which is the reason he was shopping for a second line complimentary depth piece at the trade deadline. This current roster doesn't have the complementary pieces that suit Taveres' skill set. Kase is closest but he is a damaged time bomb as he is one big hit away from forced retirement sadly. Go JT! Do what you can do with who you have as line mates.

They wouldn't have scored the goals if the game was tight, but it makes it look more lopsided. It is a fact that Boston scored more goals in 2019 finals but it's also a fact that STL won 4 games. It makes absolutely no difference how many goals are scored in total. Even last year, the Avs won first game against Vegas like 7-2 or 7-1 but still lost the series even if the total goals wouldn't indicate so. Let's face it, after 18+ years of playoff first round futility, it would be a life-changing thing to experience if the Leafs actually WON a round in the playoffs !
