I froze watching that live. Going to a superspeedway race i always know there is a big chance of a car flipping like Harrison Burton’s flip at the 2022 500. But for it to start barrel rolling… i did not expect that. Ryan Preece’s crash reminds me more of Rusty Wallace 93’ crash at Talladega, due to the way the car rolled over and the height it reached.
Blaney's wreck reminded me of Dale's crash & Preece's wreck reminded me of Davey Allison's tumble at Pocono. Two of the toughest wrecks I've watched in recent years. This flip definitely tops his HUGE hit at Kansas in 2020
...also, seeing the roof hatch come off of the 41 (exposing the top of his helmet) made me feel uneasy. Especially with how hard the roof of that car hit the ground before it came to rest.
The blaney wreck was exactly like Earnhardt, I thought that was bad and then the preece wreck was absolutely horrific, very scary for the nascar community I’m glad all the drivers were ok
That horizon shot looking across to the backstretch of the Preece crash literally looks like a scene from an action movie. Like a scene where the music stops and all you hear is the brutal hits of the car…
All the crashes I’ve heard brought up compared to Preece - DW in 91, Davey at Pocono in 92, Rusty at Daytona & Dega in 93, Newman in 2020, and even I think Ricky Rudd at Daytona in 1984 and Rusty at Daytona in 1983 - this almost makes me think if this is what Bruce Jacobi’s 1983 flip at Daytona that led to him dying comatose looked like. All we saw are either the photos on Fastlane or the end of the crash. It was beyond violent. If so, then we’re more than lucky Preece walked away from that. Testament to the safety. Whatever Preece got from that crash, it could’ve been much, much worse.

Went to the race and this year was a very good one. Got to meet Denny Hamlin in the midway and got an autograph. Great that there wasn't an issue with weather this year as well. This is always the race I drive across the state to go to.
Preece's crash reminded me a lot of Ken Schrader's crash at Talladega in 1995 & Tony Stewart's crash in the 2001 Daytona 500 (which took place in the same area as this one) in terms of how high the car got in the air & the amount of violent flips it took. However it isn't the most violent flip I have seen as I vividly remember watching live Peter Dumbreck's crazy flip in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999 (where the car left the track on the Mulsanne straight) as a 3 year old. Thank goodness Preece is okay.

This race could be the defining race for the rest of the next gen era. They’ve been fixing the problems that are around the safety and style of racing which was both shown in full effect tonight. I’m mad I didn’t get to watch most of it because of work but I saw the big one and preece flip and was nearly freaking out with how huge they were. And I got to see the final laps and overtime which was super exciting and seemed like everyone in the top 15 could possibly pull to the front and win it
Thank God there was no rain to impact this event for once and it was able to be run on a Saturday Night like it should! Even though I grew up with *Pepsi 400* like you did even as a Coke guy, I refer to it as the *Pepsi Firecracker 400* as I along with you and the rest of our generation grew up with it being on 4th of July Weekend as it goes to show the younger generation how old we are. I was thinking about watching tonight but slept in/woke up late instead and needless to say, I’m happy Blaney is alright and hope Preece isn’t badly hurt and without a doubt, both of those are fatal if they happened anywhere in between 1999-2001.

Preece's flip looked like a flip out of a fast & furious movie where they slow the footage down from a different camera angle and yeah Elliott Sadler's Talladega flip was in 2003. We can compare it to many flips like Larson's flip at Talladega Michael McDowell's flip at Texas 08 Michael Waltrip's Daytona flip 02 and Tony Stewart's Daytona flip 01 and more.

These were sum bad crashes. I expected crashes at daytona hell I even expected a flip but nothing as bad as we saw tn. that was single handedly one of the craziest crash ill ever see. the speed in which he was flipping didn’t even seemed real it straight up looked like an iracing wreck or cgi. thank god ryan is okay and nascar is actually trying to make the cars safer
I think this wreck shows why despite it's flaws the next gen is keeping drivers safe and able to walk away from crashes that may have been fatal in the 80s and 90s
2 great races in 2 nights at Daytona, i think the Xfinity series race Friday night was entertaining start to finish. Cup series race tonight was crazy.
Prece was getting pushed by I think what was one of the Richard petty cars (i know they are called legacy Motorsport but that name doesn’t sit well with me) that was pushing ryan and I guess what is believed to be the 42 gave the 41 a bad shove and then the rest is history. That crash looked like a old school 1970s type crash
I’ll also mention the fact that he flipped extremely fast and the g force could be extremely dangerous in indycar when they spin fast it puts so much g force on their spines and people get paralyzed I’m not sure how much force flipping like he did would put on the spine

I think preece caught the air because of the transition between the pavement and dirt because the dirt is a little bit lower then the pavement as he went over the the transition the air got under it and he was along for the ride at that point

Although these cars have become so safe over the years and it showed just how safe they were tonight with Preece, the roof hatch failing worried me. The roof hatch getting ripped off the car basically left the car with an open cockpit. Flying debris very easily could’ve been thrown into the cockpit, striking Preece and seriously hurting him. Definitely something NASCAR needs to look at and why it failed.
Glad Preece is ok 3 things that need to change remove the curbs down the back straight just put in temporary curbs, remove all that grass and remove the diffuser the cars catch air so easy with that thing also cool moment for rfk
