Hi Guys! Thanks for checkin' out this MIRACLE of a band. It's hard to put into words how truly ASTOUNDING this group of musicians is, but I'll give it a shot: I live in the U.S state of Colorado. Colorado has 58 mountain peaks that reach over 14,000 feet above sea level. If you were to take a BAND-MAID song that is AMAZING and assign it to one of those mountains....you would run out of mountains. Seriously. It's the most complete, the most talented, the most charismatic band I have EVER seen. Welcome to the pigeon hole. Rock On!
I'm an old metalhead. I've been listening to rock music since the mid 70s. Much of which was recorded in the late 60s and early 70s. I dove into punk and metal in the 80s, along with classical and a little jazz. Band Maid is my favorite new band, hands down. I ignored TH-cam's Band Maid suggestion for several weeks as I checked out the Japanese music scene. Japan is cranking out some fantastic musicians, but none sound as good as Band Maid. They have a touch of punk rebellion in their sound.... and it's beautiful.
Especially their first 3 albums. Check out also Iron Bunny and Lovebites. My favorite is Aldious have 5 CD s of theirs and maybe 6o songs total, not one bad or even mediocre song in the bunch. For those who don't know, BAND-MAID played in the Classic Rock Awards 2016 and received the Japan Next Generation prize. After the show Jimmy Page, asked Akane for a photo. Reportedly he told her that she was like a reincarnation of John Bonham.
They dress like that because founding member, lyricist, rythym guitarist, backing vocalist and red rose wearing adorable beautiful visionary and funny little munchkin. Miku Kobato actually worked in a Maid Cafe in Japan. And came up with the idea of marrying the cute costume look. With the hard rock sound. Definitely more Band Maid ( you won't be disappointed ) and a new subscriber because of it. Freedom from the same concert ( great drum solo ) should be next. Be well !
I totally agree, *Freedom* would be the perfect follow up and after that *Onset Live.* I'd love to see these girls tour with the Mexican sisters in *The Warning.*

@@TheThamesmen Male fantasies are fine when done respectfully. You don't think women have them ? But I know for me, it's all about the music. As it is for the overwhelming majority of fans as well. I like the fact that they've themselves initiated it. The couple that were kind of reluctant about it in the group in the beginning. Proudly wear them and consider it sort of like their battle armor now.

I just watched a Netflix movie KATE, Band Maid played themselves in a nightclub scene , performing Choose Me. Another song was used in a car chase seen. In the credits all them got individual listings too. So proud of these girls .

Always glad to see a new reactor take the plunge and listen to my favorite band. I always like to point out that this was the 22nd song of a 23 song set. They had been going for almost two hours at that point and still performed with that kind of energy. As far as the maid outfit, the founder , Miku, was working at a "Maid" Cafe when she founded the band and had the idea of contrasting women in maid outfits while playing hard rock music.

"Well at first I just loved the whole band, then I realized I had a bias towards X, then I realized I hadn't really appreciated what Y brought to the group, then I got reeeeaaallly into the non-MV tracks, then I started appreciating the early stuff, then I got into the overall evolution of their sound(s) and style(s)" etc. etc. etc.
Love this song and band! Netflix just released a movie called Kate and Band-Maid has one song, Blooming playing in a car during a chase and then they are on stage performing Choose Me in a night club the lead character enters into. Thank you for reacting to this video.
Actually the story was Miku Kobato was a waitress in s Maid Cafe, and would go hone and listened to metal. She came up with the idea to play hard rock and metal while wearing French Maid outfits. She got the most talented musicians she could find, and they sent about 5 years building a loyal fan base and putting out excellent music.

So much to discover, they are over the top talented, writing their own songs, have an unique chemistry, dont care about genres (they play metal, rock, hardrock, pop, funk, punk, jazz parts) and created their own style. Always working on new songs, great shows with new solos, intros and bridges just to keep it fresh for their audience. LOL!!! Great Retro Intro and Outro! These ladies are for real and do their own thing, they are a true Sisterhood off stage too, they're hilarious. If you stay with them you'll find the songwriting to be a culmination of every music genre in each song for many of their songs. For the most part their choruses are "poppy" but they can quickly go from "Poppy" chorus to metal face melting in four beats. They have chaotic songs, good ole rock songs and tear jerking ballads. There's no limit to their talent. Stick around, it's a pretty fun ride.
Miku Po!!!! The outfits are definitely part of their history. Gimmic... sure. But it is Band-Maid. Incredible musicians who write all their own stuff and are uniquely their own.

Nice! I've been following y'all for a while now as a member of the Nightwish Army, and it just happens I discovered BAND-MAID last weekend. I've been wearing out their LPs in my car all week. Actually, I've been seeing their name on reaction channels for a long time, but I kept avoiding them because I was afraid they'd be another gimmick like Babymetal, which I never cared for, but then someone mentioned MISA's bass playing, and I had to give them a try. I grew up on classic rock, but I've felt that there hasn't been any good rock music for the past few decades, and so I'd pretty much switched to metal for any kind of new stuff, but BAND-MAID is bringing back proper old-school rock music in massive fashion!
I also grew up on classic rock. It’s great to see the nod but step forward. It might not always be for me but it’s thrilling hearing new genres I had no idea exists. Be well. Alex.
Oldie here. Been milked with Pink Floyd, Led Zep, King Crimson, and so on. Been thirsty of good rock since early 90' till now. Band Maid provide! They really have bring back this spirit of rock, clear solid sound, bold composition, experimentation, and always with a catchy touch in every song. Cherry on the cake: they're all amazing musicians. Akane's drums beats varie all the time; Misa can switch in a split second from picking to slapping; Kanami know the exact amount of solo you need to cry for more and can shred during an entire song just to enhance it; Miku is solid not only on the rhythm guitar but to provide back up vocals and harmonies to, last but not least, Saiki, who's a amazing singer and performer. Band Maid is one of the most intelligent bands that there is out there. They have two jewels in the writing department, Kanami Tono, lead guitarist, who is the main writer and composer. One of the best I have ever seen in my many years in music. And Miku Kobato, rhythm guitarist and band founder, is the main lyricist, a true poet. They are all some of the best musicians for their relatively young age. Add to that, that they have only been together for a short eight years. I believe that the best is yet to come. Try for your next reaction to them something from their latest album Unseen World. Warning or Manners live or MV. You can't go wrong.
MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 Badass Bass Assassin. Band-Maid are the best Hard Rock band in the world right now. A good choice picking this song. B-M MV'S are very good but the Live versions is 10 times better because you can see how talented these 5 musicians really are in concert and how much fun they have on stage with each other. Check out the Live versions of Freedom, Play, Onset, Manners/Black Hole, After Life, Warning, Real Existence just to get you started. I have seen them play twice here in LA and they are amazing to watch in concert. The visual between Band-Maid outfits and their hard Rock style of music is the "gap" they try to achieve for 1st time listeners. 😉🤙🏼
I traveled across Europe to see them in London in the summer of 2019. I was deaf for two days but it was totally worth it. They also sold out concerts (and added extra shows) across the US that summer. When they are able to start touring again you should definitely see them.
That Japanese/English mix is a specialty of lyricist/rhythm guitarist Miku. It's a practical matter, actually. Japanese can have some very "wordy" phrases that are hard to match to the timing of the song. So Miku sometimes switches to English for the sake of efficiency. In some songs, like "Blooming," the dense lyrics are part of the appeal. Fortunately, Saiki can spit bars, when she needs to.
If you want to listen to one of the best power ballads ive ever heard in my life, You need to react to "Daydreaming" by them. They do U2 as good as U2 does. Kanami the guitar player can bring you to tears with that solo.
Band-Maid isn't a studio exec's project. They paid their dues the regular way gigging in tiny venues, and their first tour was done with a single van, sitting on their equipment. The maid costume idea is from the band leader (Miku, second vocalist, rhythm guitarist) who worked in a maid cafe. Domination is a walk in the park skill-wise when compared to their newer songs. Check out NO GOD or the Manners / Black Hole double song.
That brings back memories of the whole band crammed into a van Friday evening off to a gig where 12 people show up to watch you play!! Many a good night was had 😎
You may not have been fully prepared for Band-Maid's sound, because despite the maid café look there's a distinct lack of cups and cakes. They're not like other bands, where the mantra seems to just be 'gimme some money' over and over again...these ladies are totally in it for the music, and it hits you like a brainhammer. I suggest you listen to what the flower people say and react to a lot more Band-Maid.
This is the BEST hard rock band (both in the tightness of their sound and individual skill) I've seen, since Iron Maiden in their glory years (circa 1978-1986) ... forget that they're women, or the outfits they wear ... and just listen to the mad skills on display ... Jimmy Page saw them live and was so impressed he asked to have a photo with Arkane (the drummer) backstage after the gig ... She thought she was being pranked at first ... That sort of Hard Rock royalty doesn't throw silly half-assed compliments around ... These young ladies are the REAL deal and coming from anywhere outside of Japan would already be household names!
Puzzle and Moratorium are two songs that are good to check out bit the videos might be hard to find these days on TH-cam. Another option then I'd recommend is the Manners/Blackhole double feature that Band-Maid recently posted. It gives a really good sample of the bands abilities and range.
LMAO, the older Alex and Andy. Priceless! Seriously, I think the two best pure rock bands on the planet right now are Band-Maid and The Warning! The ladies are KILLING it and bringing a rebirth to ROCK!
Another maidiac here - I won't add to the suggestions for other bands, only because they're all right. This is the best and most fun hard rock group to come around in years - and after 3 years they're still #1 for me. Lots of different genres and styles - they can't be pigeonholed (inside maidiac joke there - you see references to pigeons because Kobato is Miku's last (or first there) name and it also means pigeon. She claims to be and 810 year old pigeon (although surly it's 812 by now?) - Seriously, these girls will make you face hurt from smiling and then rip it off!
The bands that I listen to the most today are BAND-MAID and foo fighters, these girls I discovered a year ago and I loved their music from the first moment I heard them, there is a word that perfectly describes this band and that is "perfection", It is the most versatile band that I have seen, they can literally do any style and the composition of their songs are magnificent, it is the most incredible female band I have seen to date. Hopefully they will react to more BAND-MAID songs.
THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond. Think that covers everything. Oh, I suppose I should add.......Just for a moment, forget they're all female and forget they're dressed as maids. Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April 2020. Miku's thought this through quite wonderfully. She decided (while working at a maid cafe in Japan) that she wanted to create a rock band of all maids and thankfully recruited these women to (hopefully) one day rule the music industry and put some soul and energy back into rock. I'm sure everyone's told you this by now though.
Love that retro intro! Took me right back to the days of 2 tv stations and wall paneling. Your timing is pretty good: the movie "Kate" just came out on Netflix and features them on-stage and two of their songs. Your comments on the mix are pretty popular. Kanami (lead guitarist and composer) is often turned down for some reason, even on their albums. But this show in particular is famous for not having a good mix. I hope Alex enjoyed going back and listening to the song again. One of the best things about Band-Maid how they reward attentive and repeated listening. Each member is constantly doing something interesting. You can concentrate on a different instrument with every listen and gain a new appreciation for the song. I believe the thought and detail they put into composition is second-to-none. Recommendations? For something faster, try "Warning!". For a classic rock sound, try "Manners". For something heavier try "Rinne". For a ballad, try "Daydreaming". "onset" is a mesmerising instrumental. If you want a song where you can properly hear the lead guitar, try "Blooming".
Earlier in their career the costumes were more "male gazey" but the band members have said they never liked the "obvious intention" of the band label (in the words of the singer), and they have worked over the years to adjust their image and keep it focused on their music. There are also more bands with costumes in Japan than elsewhere, though obviously this isn't unknown in the west (and after all, isn't a band like Motorhead wearing a kind of costume when you get right down to it).
Dice was my first and still favorite. Bass to the face right at the start! But honestly you could do any other song and it will be good. Onset live is a must! It's an instrumental that shows off their exceptional talent. Some other faves are Blooming, Dragon Cries, Daydreaming, Different, Play, glory, Real Existence live.

yep, the music business in Japan is huge and rock/metal has a long tradition. There are also a large number of really good all female bands that have been around for over 10 years. It's not easy to establish a brand. Other bands in the same direction are: Scandal, Gacharic Spin, Silent Siren, Aldious and Lovebites.
Band-Maid is a fantastic hard rock band, super talented and always great songs. Where to go next is tough... maybe a MV would be better to help with your mix difficulty. Maybe non-fiction days, Blooming, Dice, Daydreaming, Real Existence, etc. Thanks for the reaction.
Live... You'll want to do the song "Play" or "Real Existence" or "Freedom"... Music Video.. The song "Dice" or "Blooming" or a song with a really cool groove rock vibe from their new album, a song called "Manners".. Most of them are wearing the dress of the traditional Japanese Maid Cafe... Labels in Japan look for "Gap" when they sign talent.. In Japan they have this thing called "the Gap", which is combining two things that don't usually go together to get your attention, but in the end it seems to work out perfectly.. Their idea when they started in 2013, was being a group of extreamly talented musicians playing kick ass rock music, dressed in maid uniforms. They have since gained full creative control of their music but prefer to keep the maid image...

The musicianship & musicality of this band is Awesome. Some people, can't get past the Japanese lyrics, I think Japanese sounds really good put to music. Anyway.....Love the Maids❤😎🤘P.S. Want hear a killer bassline, react to Manners live or Play live.
Everybody does get frustrated by how low Kanami's lead guitar is in the mix for this concert, BUT... A) Everybody also says they want to see them live, and this is a very "you-are-there" mix with lots of room sound; and B) You can tell _something_ cool is going on with the lead guitar and this mix forces one to really focus on it. Kinda like the more common technique of burying vocals in a studio mix. No idea if this was the intent, though. (Also, streaming compression algorithms make this sound noticably different from the dvd or blu-ray.)

These five musicians wear what they want and play what they want and boy do they play. The "gap" between the looks and the music is what you have fell in. The back catalogue of live music is where you will find "Onset", "Freedom", "Clang", "Play", "Real existence" and many many more. They're latest album I would put in the same theatre as the rock greats of Rush, Queen and Led Zeppelin.
Miku would leave work from a Maid Cafe whilst listening to Maximum the Hormone, the drummer from this band is a big influence to Akane and many other female drummers from Japan, and thought that Maid outfits would be a good juxtaposition to hard rock, Miku found Kanami on line doing singer song writing stuff and presented her idea for a band. Kanami said yes and then asked Akane to join. They asked MISA as well, that took a day for her to say yes. They then thought that a singer other than Miku was needed. Saki was tricked into the position of singer. All of this was in 2013, A Pigeon, a Gorilla, a barefoot Assassin, Mincho and the queen are now well and truly on their way to world domination. I don't think there's any doubt they are amazingly good technical musicians. I just have a hard time feeling there's a combined soul or heart for want of better words But I'm happy to watch more if that's the way you go, perhaps they'll grow on me. Great video, more please!
Interesting you feel that way. To me it’s actually the opposite. There are many technically better bands in Japan, but Band-Maid’s magic is below the surface… the heart and the soul and pure them-ness.

I'm an old metalhead. I've been listening to rock music since the mid 70s. Much of which was recorded in the late 60s and early 70s. I dove into punk and metal in the 80s, along with classical and a little jazz. Band Maid is my favorite new band, hands down. I ignored TH-cam's Band Maid suggestion for several weeks as I checked out the Japanese music scene. Japan is cranking out some fantastic musicians, but none sound as good as Band Maid. They have a touch of punk rebellion in their sound.... and it's beautiful.

They dress like that because founding member, lyricist, rythym guitarist, backing vocalist and red rose wearing adorable beautiful visionary and funny little munchkin. Miku Kobato actually worked in a Maid Cafe in Japan. And came up with the idea of marrying the cute costume look. With the hard rock sound. Definitely more Band Maid ( you won't be disappointed ) and a new subscriber because of it. Freedom from the same concert ( great drum solo ) should be next. Be well !

I like the fact that they've themselves initiated it. The couple that were kind of reluctant about it in the group in the beginning. Always glad to see a new reactor take the plunge and listen to my favorite band. I always like to point out that this was the 22nd song of a 23 song set. They had been going for almost two hours at that point and still performed with that kind of energy. As far as the maid outfit, the founder , Miku, was working at a "Maid" Cafe when she founded the band and had the idea of contrasting women in maid outfits while playing hard rock music.

Actually the story was Miku Kobato was a waitress in s Maid Cafe, and would go hone and listened to metal.
She came up with the idea to play hard rock and metal while wearing French Maid outfits.
She got the most talented musicians she could find, and they sent about 5 years building a loyal fan base and putting out excellent music.

They usually perform 23 songs and 2 hours live. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara Tokyo and had the idea of playing cool songs with a maid costume. That's why the band was named Band-Maid. LOL!!! Great Retro Intro and Outro! These ladies are for real and do their own thing, they are a true Sisterhood off stage too, they're hilarious. If you stay with them you'll find the songwriting to be a culmination of every music genre in each song for many of their songs. For the most part their choruses are "poppy" but they can quickly go from "Poppy" chorus to metal face melting in four beats. They have chaotic songs, good ole rock songs and tear jerking ballads. There's no limit to their talent. Stick around, it's a pretty fun ride.

Nice! I've been following y'all for a while now as a member of the Nightwish Army, and it just happens I discovered BAND-MAID last weekend. I've been wearing out their LPs in my car all week. Actually, I've been seeing their name on reaction channels for a long time, but I kept avoiding them because I was afraid they'd be another gimmick like Babymetal, which I never cared for, but then someone mentioned MISA's bass playing, and I had to give them a try.
I grew up on classic rock, but I've felt that there hasn't been any good rock music for the past few decades, and so I'd pretty much switched to metal for any kind of new stuff, but BAND-MAID is bringing back proper old-school rock music in massive fashion!
I also grew up on classic rock. It’s great to see the nod but step forward. It might not always be for me but it’s thrilling hearing new genres I had no idea exists. Be well. Alex.

They really have bring back this spirit of rock, clear solid sound, bold composition, experimentation, and always with a catchy touch in every song.
Cherry on the cake: they're all amazing musicians.
Akane's drums beats varie all the time; Misa can switch in a split second from picking to slapping; Kanami know the exact amount of solo you need to cry for more and can shred during an entire song just to enhance it; Miku is solid not only on the rhythm guitar but to provide back up vocals and harmonies to, last but not least, Saiki, who's a amazing singer and performer.

Band Maid is one of the most intelligent bands that there is out there. They have two jewels in the writing department, Kanami Tono, lead guitarist, who is the main writer and composer. One of the best I have ever seen in my many years in music. And Miku Kobato, rhythm guitarist and band founder, is the main lyricist, a true poet. They are all some of the best musicians for their relatively young age. Add to that, that they have only been together for a short eight years. I believe that the best is yet to come. Try for your next reaction to them something from their latest album Unseen World. Warning or Manners live or MV. You can't go wrong.

MISA!!! MISA!!! MISA!!! 🥃🥃🥃 Badass Bass Assassin. Band-Maid are the best Hard Rock band in the world right now. A good choice picking this song. B-M MV'S are very good but the Live versions is 10 times better because you can see how talented these 5 musicians really are in concert and how much fun they have on stage with each other. Check out the Live versions of Freedom, Play, Onset, Manners/Black Hole, After Life, Warning, Real Existence just to get you started. I have seen them play twice here in LA and they are amazing to watch in concert. The visual between Band-Maid outfits and their hard Rock style of music is the "gap" they try to achieve for 1st time listeners. 😉🤙🏼

I traveled across Europe to see them in London in the summer of 2019. I was deaf for two days but it was totally worth it. They also sold out concerts (and added extra shows) across the US that summer. When they are able to start touring again you should definitely see them.

That Japanese/English mix is a specialty of lyricist/rhythm guitarist Miku. It's a practical matter, actually. Japanese can have some very "wordy" phrases that are hard to match to the timing of the song. So Miku sometimes switches to English for the sake of efficiency. In some songs, like "Blooming," the dense lyrics are part of the appeal. Fortunately, Saiki can spit bars, when she needs to.

Band-Maid isn't a studio exec's project. They paid their dues the regular way gigging in tiny venues, and their first tour was done with a single van, sitting on their equipment. The maid costume idea is from the band leader (Miku, second vocalist, rhythm guitarist) who worked in a maid cafe.
Domination is a walk in the park skill-wise when compared to their newer songs. Check out NO GOD or the Manners / Black Hole double song.

You may not have been fully prepared for Band-Maid's sound, because despite the maid café look there's a distinct lack of cups and cakes. They're not like other bands, where the mantra seems to just be 'gimme some money' over and over again...these ladies are totally in it for the music, and it hits you like a brainhammer.
I suggest you listen to what the flower people say and react to a lot more Band-Maid.

This is the BEST hard rock band (both in the tightness of their sound and individual skill) I've seen, since Iron Maiden in their glory years (circa 1978-1986) ... forget that they're women, or the outfits they wear ... and just listen to the mad skills on display ... Jimmy Page saw them live and was so impressed he asked to have a photo with Arkane (the drummer) backstage after the gig ... She thought she was being pranked at first ... That sort of Hard Rock royalty doesn't throw silly half-assed compliments around ... These young ladies are the REAL deal and coming from anywhere outside of Japan would already be household names!

Another maidiac here - I won't add to the suggestions for other bands, only because they're all right. This is the best and most fun hard rock group to come around in years - and after 3 years they're still #1 for me. Lots of different genres and styles - they can't be pigeonholed (inside maidiac joke there - you see references to pigeons because Kobato is Miku's last (or first there) name and it also means pigeon. She claims to be and 810 year old pigeon (although surly it's 812 by now?) - Seriously, these girls will make you face hurt from smiling and then rip it off!

The bands that I listen to the most today are BAND-MAID and foo fighters, these girls I discovered a year ago and I loved their music from the first moment I heard them, there is a word that perfectly describes this band and that is "perfection", It is the most versatile band that I have seen, they can literally do any style and the composition of their songs are magnificent, it is the most incredible female band I have seen to date. Hopefully they will react to more BAND-MAID songs.

THE best live Rock band on Earth. And beyond. Think that covers everything. Oh, I suppose I should add.......Just for a moment, forget they're all female and forget they're dressed as maids. Two members (MISA - Bass, Akane - Drums) are classically trained pianists and musicians who studied at the Tokyo Academy of Music while Kanami, the lead guitarist, has also been playing piano since the age of 3 or 4 but is concert standard (almost unbelievably, given her skills, she only switched to guitar about 10 years ago!) They all have superb musical ability as well as passion, a lack of ego and the drive to play real, in your face, Rock which is why they are THE best live Rock band on Earth right now. OK, now that's explained, you can go back and marvel at how cute those outfits look and how incredibly beautiful all the band members are. The only band I've seen that is playing live like bands I went to see in the 70's, such as Led Zeppelin or Sabbath or Zappa. Music they write themselves, real guitars, drums and bass played loudly and with passion as well as powerful Rock vocals. They are all really close friends and know how to have fun together on stage, confident as they are in each others’ abilities and skills. They've revived the classic Rock sound and given the genre a much needed kick in the ass, as Babymetal have done for Metal. Future reactions I'd recommend, as they really shine brightest live, would be from the DVD they released in April 2020. Miku's thought this through quite wonderfully. She decided (while working at a maid cafe in Japan) that she wanted to create a rock band of all maids and thankfully recruited these women to (hopefully) one day rule the music industry and put some soul and energy back into rock. I'm sure everyone's told you this by now though.

Love that retro intro! Took me right back to the days of 2 tv stations and wall paneling. Your timing is pretty good: the movie "Kate" just came out on Netflix and features them on-stage and two of their songs.
Your comments on the mix are pretty popular. Kanami (lead guitarist and composer) is often turned down for some reason, even on their albums. But this show in particular is famous for not having a good mix.
I hope Alex enjoyed going back and listening to the song again. One of the best things about Band-Maid how they reward attentive and repeated listening. Each member is constantly doing something interesting. You can concentrate on a different instrument with every listen and gain a new appreciation for the song. I believe the thought and detail they put into composition is second-to-none.
Recommendations? For something faster, try "Warning!". For a classic rock sound, try "Manners". For something heavier try "Rinne". For a ballad, try "Daydreaming". "onset" is a mesmerising instrumental. If you want a song where you can properly hear the lead guitar, try "Blooming".

Earlier in their career the costumes were more "male gazey" but the band members have said they never liked the "obvious intention" of the band label (in the words of the singer), and they have worked over the years to adjust their image and keep it focused on their music. There are also more bands with costumes in Japan than elsewhere, though obviously this isn't unknown in the west (and after all, isn't a band like Motorhead wearing a kind of costume when you get right down to it).

Dice was my first and still favorite. Bass to the face right at the start! But honestly you could do any other song and it will be good. Onset live is a must! It's an instrumental that shows off their exceptional talent. Some other faves are Blooming, Dragon Cries, Daydreaming, Different, Play, glory, Real Existence live.

yep, the music business in Japan is huge and rock/metal has a long tradition. There are also a large number of really good all female bands that have been around for over 10 years. It's not easy to establish a brand.
Other bands in the same direction are: Scandal, Gacharic Spin, Silent Siren, Aldious and Lovebites.

Live... You'll want to do the song "Play" or "Real Existence" or "Freedom"... Music Video.. The song "Dice" or "Blooming" or a song with a really cool groove rock vibe from their new album, a song called "Manners".. Most of them are wearing the dress of the traditional Japanese Maid Cafe... Labels in Japan look for "Gap" when they sign talent.. In Japan they have this thing called "the Gap", which is combining two things that don't usually go together to get your attention, but in the end it seems to work out perfectly.. Their idea when they started in 2013, was being a group of extreamly talented musicians playing kick ass rock music, dressed in maid uniforms. They have since gained full creative control of their music but prefer to keep the maid image...

Everybody does get frustrated by how low Kanami's lead guitar is in the mix for this concert, BUT...
A) Everybody also says they want to see them live, and this is a very "you-are-there" mix with lots of room sound; and
B) You can tell _something_ cool is going on with the lead guitar and this mix forces one to really focus on it. Kinda like the more common technique of burying vocals in a studio mix. No idea if this was the intent, though. (Also, streaming compression algorithms make this sound noticably different from the dvd or blu-ray.)

Miku would leave work from a Maid Cafe whilst listening to Maximum the Hormone, the drummer from this band is a big influence to Akane and many other female drummers from Japan, and thought that Maid outfits would be a good juxtaposition to hard rock, Miku found Kanami on line doing singer song writing stuff and presented her idea for a band. Kanami said yes and then asked Akane to join. They asked MISA as well, that took a day for her to say yes. They then thought that a singer other than Miku was needed. Saki was tricked into the position of singer. All of this was in 2013, A Pigeon, a Gorilla, a barefoot Assassin, Mincho and the queen are now well and truly on their way to world domination. Also, check out Nemophila. Not telling you anymore about these girls, sorry, ladies.
